Santana, Austin, De La Rosa victorious tonight.
Undercard results from Las Vegas:
Nelson Linares wins against Archak "Shark Attack" TerMeliksetian, when the Shark stops swimming after the 5th round. Linares pretty much ran the show from opening to close.
Bermaine "B-Ware" Stivern beat James "Big Daddy" Butler in the 7th round of what turned out to be a two-part heavyweight fight due to a loose floorboard in the ring which caused a halt to action. This halt allowed Butler to recover just enough to mount a very minor comeback and that's about it. Maybe if Butler had shed those extra 34 pounds, he might have been able to get out of the way of Stivern's well placed body shots and upstairs-downstairs tactics.
"King" James De La Rosa pitched a shutout against Lenin Arroyo, scoring 100-88 on my scorecard in the welterweight bout. Two judges agreed with me and the third scored for De La Rosa as well. De La Rosa managed to land every punch with wicked power and exceptional form. Arroyo tried to get dirty, but Referee Jay Nady was having none of it.
"Touch of Sleep" got slept as Ray Austin becomes the WBC #1 contender to Vitali Klitschko as he flattened DaVarryl Williamson in the fourth round of the heavyweight special attraction. Referee Russell Mora called a halt to the fight after the knockdown, which may have been a little sudden, but Austin was winning on the cards anyway.
In swing bout action, the speedy Angelo Santana remained unbeaten in a lightweight six-rounder, going toe to toe with the power of Miguel Gonzales. Several rounds were close but Santana won the nod, thanks to his quick flurries which usually had some good pop to them.
