WBC: We May Be Corrupt, But We Won't Have Pottymouths!
Posted by Ryan Bates on 11.03.2009

The WBC, the sanctioning body known for astronomical sanctioning fees, questionable ranking movements, and more fractional belts than a pre-algebra class, now all of a sudden decides that it has morals.

In a move reminiscent of the South Park movie, WBC president Jose Suliaman has announced that heavyweight contender Cristobal "The Nightmare" Arreola (27-1, 24 KOs) has been banned from boxing for six months for an emotional, swear-laced interview on HBO following his loss to Vitali Klitschko.

"I worked my a** off," a visibly upset Arreola lamented to Larry Merchant. "F***! Vitali is a strong mother f***er. I wanted to go the full 12. I knew it was f***ing me up. I couldn't get to him, Man. F***! This ain't the last you'll see of me. F*** that. I'm coming back."

The ban is allegedly backdated from the September fight, extending until March 2010. Too bad Arreola had a scheduled comeback fight on December 5 on the Paul Williams vs. not-Kelly Pavlik undercard.

Arreola's camp has not yet responded as to whether it will honor the ban or not.

Meanwhile, the WBC is perfectly content to cash in on sanctioning fees for their brand-new "Diamond Belt," which will go to the winner of the November 14th bout between Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto.

So extortion is okay, but swearing is not?

Years from now, the WBC will ask "why is boxing dead? It used to be so popular!"

The diamond belt is a nonsense! Why on earth does Bob Arum/Cotto/Pac-man stand for it? They don't have to pay this ridiculous sanction! Why not stick two fingers up to the WBC? This is a superfight and no-one gives two sh*ts what trinket is on the line!
