With less than three weeks before Ward gets his first shot at a world title against Mikkel Kessler, things seem to be going quite well in the gym. On Nov. 21, Ward not only vies for the WBA super middleweight title but also closes out the first round of the Super Six World Boxing Classic at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.
Ward (20-0, 13 KOs) will attempt to get the American side their first win given Andre Dirrell's and Jermain Taylor's losses a few weeks ago and trainer Virgil Hunter feels that Ward is coming along quite nicely.
"This has been a very productive camp," Ward's longtime mentor Hunter affirmed. "I see us moving forward with the plan every day. Andre is looking extremely strong and we are building great momentum toward November 21st. We wanted to have this training camp here in Oakland because we really love our gym, King's Gym, and we have full access to all of our resources here in our home gym."
Though he's awfully close to his family during camp, Ward also makes it a point to isolate himself from them in order to completely focus on the task at hand.
"I miss my family very much but I'm willing to sacrifice as long as I have to," Ward insists. "The sacrifices I'm making now put me in a championship mind for fight night. I'm ready to fight The Giant on November 21st."
