Mayweather Jr on Pacquiao: 'If He Wants to Fight Me All He Has to Do is Step Up to the Plate!'

While it seems the world wants to pounce on Floyd Mayweather Jr. for his alleged dodging of Manny Pacquiao, Floyd has a different take on the matter and explained his case in a press release that was sent out this afternoon. "They are all talking for him but Manny Pacquiao has yet to say he wants to fight me. If he wants to fight me all he has to do is step up to the plate." claimed Mayweather.
Floyd's main issue is that it's been the promoter's and trainer's talking about the possible fight and Manny himself has yet to vocalize his desire to fight Floyd.
"Manny Pacquiao is the fighter and every time someone asks him if he wants to fight me, he says it is up to his promoter, he's going to take a vacation, whatever the answer is. I have yet to hear him actually say, 'yes I want to fight Mayweather.' We are the fighters and if one fighter is talking about fighting another fighter, then they should just come out and say it. Manny Pacquiao doesn't say anything directly about fighting me because he might just know it's not a fight he can win.
"He said during an interview he did leading up to his fight that he didn't think I wanted to fight him and that boxing for me was just a business and I wasn't interested in a good fight. But again, he never said during that interview that he would fight me. Why is he talking about what I won't do instead of what he wants to do? Plain and simple, it's because he knows he can't beat me under any circumstances.
"Less than an hour after his fight Saturday night the talk turns back to me. Their whole promotion was just a Mayweather sweepstakes. They know it and anyone could figure that out. Why, because my name kept coming up and I didn't even say anything. Even when he was interviewed on ESPN by Brian Kenny, he was asked about fighting me and what did he say? Not 'yes I want to fight Mayweather or bring it on.' But no! He said 'hum, ahh, well talk to my promoter.'
Mayweather continued to lay out a convincing argument that Manny has no intention of fighting him but rather that it's been an idea floated by Top Rank and the Pacquiao team.
"The world is much more intrigued by the thought of someone fighting me who can beat me. That is what everyone wants to see and the boxing world is trying to find that guy. Manny Pacquaio's people have done a good job of creating an image of him to be this unbelievable fighter and now the so-called guy to beat me. But like all the rest, he's not the one.
"There is boxing and then there is me. The rest are just falling in line behind me or are trying to get in line to fight me. And that includes Manny Pacquiao too.
Floyd continues the bashing of the Filipino superstar, telling the welterweight champion to be his own man and not hide behind his promotional team.
"Tell Manny Pacquiao to be his own man and stop letting everyone, including his loudmouth trainer, talk for him. I am my own boss, speak for myself and tell it like it is. If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight me, all he has to do is step up to the plate and say it himself."
Floyd is a punk and i would be shocked if he wants ANY part of Manny at this point in his career

I see Floyd is already getting all of his excuses ready.

This is Floyd in full defensive mode. He can't seem to accept that his status as the top fighter and draw in boxing has been eclipsed. He's gonna have to come to Manny, and not the other way around.

Floyd can say whatever he wants...he has earned it...and if any of you have a problem with it...then step in the ring with him...that goes for the pacman too....as good as Pacman is..he's not gonna beat Floyd.

I can't understand why everyone is so excited about this matchup. I think too many people are caught in the smoke in mirrors. Sure, this fight would do an record number of buys, but all that will ultimately mean is that a record number of people will see what will wind up being a crappy fight. And I truly believe it would suck, because Floyd would absolutely stink out the joint if he had to. I feel the most important thing to him....more important than respect, legacy, his fans, or even money for that matter....is keeping that 0 at the end of his record. I say the hell with Floyd, let Pacquiao face Mosley (assuming Mosley beats Berto). At least then, those that do buy the fight are much more likely to see a damn exciting fight, instead of a stinkfest like those Mayweather had with ODLH and Marquez.

tones...you say that like it's an easy thing, do you have a secret that none of us know? How does one call out money and get him to respond?

Are you kidding me? How can anyone defend this? This is Floyd scared shitless. This is Floyd doing his impression of a blond chick in a horror film. I'm surprised he's not running in slow motion right now.
Seriously, Manny is the coward? REALLY? REAAAAAAAAAAAALLY? Manny's taken on the best, and beaten the best. I say it again: De La Hoya -- Floyd = 12, Manny = 8. Hatton -- Floyd = 10, Manny = 2. Cotto -- oh wait, Floyd didn't have the nutsac to even FIGHT Cotto. But Manny beat him in 12.
It's called "humility," Floyd. Manny has it, you don't. It's just another reason why people love Manny and hate you. I don't even know why I try though. You wouldn't know humility if it smacked you on the ass and called you "Jiggles."

Floyd is Floyd, dont be fooled guys... this guy is fast, intelligent and his defense is incredible.. the fight will indeed be boring, but floyd will win. I got no doubt.

all you pacman nuthuggers are just stupid.
Floyd's the best in the world, and just because latino is close to white doesn't mean he's your great white hope.

Leaving negotiations to his management team is the right thing to do in this case, IMO. Just the fact that they're all negotiating for a fight w/ floyd on his behalf means Pacquiao wants the fight to go ahead.
And change the title to 'If he wants to fight me all he has to do is give me 60/40.' Which he isn't going to get.
One last thing: Floyd accusing other people of ducking is irony.

Floyd is in Vegas and always needs Sparring partners. It's not hard to show up or make a phone call for some ring time.

All you Money May haters will just have to face the truth AGAIN after he mops PacMan up. Just get over yourself and realize Mayweather is the truth and no one else is close to him. He doesn't know how to lose, therefor he won't. Ever. He's the lil wayne of boxing.

like my old friend from Mexico city would say: "Noooo Maaaames". Floyd just shut up and accept the purse you will make more than enough easily. Manny has earned the respect of all the boxing community, fans, interviewers, politicians, muslims, catholics, boys, girls, Gods etc. you havent.... this guy wil tear you up in pieces, your little ninja turtle duck, shoulder lean, lean back move, etc. and your bicicle wont help you against manny.

Just because you don't like the guy doesn't mean you need to say dumb shit. "Humility" my ass, when did you ever see humility from Ali? Randy Moss isn't humble on the field, you don't become great at something by being humble, be a humble person, not a humble fighter, player, performer, etc. and you can't compare what they did to identical opponents, they have different styles they were completely different fights, jackass, just stop. With that stupid ass logic, Washington just beat Denver sunday, Denver beat New England earlier this year...but you know good fuckin well the Redskins will get DEMOLISHED if the play New England whether it's at home or on the road. The Bears also beat the Steelers, which Minnesota failed to do...do you actually think the Bears are a better team? It doesn't mean shit that Manny beat them faster, you idiot. Pacman doesn't need a dick rider, btw, and if you're so big on "humility" then why aren't you showing any for the guy who has beaten every single fighter you idiots think he will lose to because you don't like him. Everything he said makes perfect sense, how could he be dodging him when he just essentially called him out?
"like my old friend from Mexico city would say: "Noooo Maaaames". Floyd just shut up and accept the purse you will make more than enough easily. ..Because since everyone kisses Manny's ass that must mean that he is really the better fighter, right? The only reason you think Manny will win is because he's "more respected" than Floyd? Yeah, that worked out well for the ones who came before also, you guys are just on here saying stupid shit, blinded by your hatred for Money Mayweather.

you are wrong my friend, I respect Money may weather, and I personally admire his skills. the only thing i want from him as a fan is to test those skills out against a good oponent, I want him to fight the best, I dont think the majority of the boxing community, including fans dislike him for no reason.. i dont think 90 percent of the people out there are wrong. We all know he is talented, but we also no he is a coward

Money will beat pac man down. Nobody can touch his skills.

It ain't cocky if u can back it up. Mayweather is this generations Ali. Everyone loves Ali now but he was hated as much, if not more by the public-just like Floyd. I respect these 2 fighters and It's gonna be a good rumble.

I hope mayweather would hurry up and beat the shit out of manny so everyone will shut up, i admit pac mans the shit but id rather put my money on money mayweather , but damn isnt he getting old?

Filipinos are part of the Malay race that happen to be heavily influenced by both Spanish and Asian cultures. But they are neither Latino or Asian.

Pacquiao will knock the F*** Mayweather out!! Like Cotto... Mayweather better be ready for beat down. Go Pacquiao!!
Posted By: PAC-U-OUT (Guest) on November 17, 2009 at 08:02 PM
I am a huge Pacquiao fan but I know this fight is his Everest. I respect the S*** out of Mayweather. I am content with the fact taht after, regardless of what happens. Pacquiao is a better man and is living a more fruitful life. Plus I am also happy because with Mannys speed, I know he will at least get some real good shots at "Money's" stupid, cocky face.

Posted By: M-Pac (Guest) on November 17, 2009 at 10:52 PM
Just get the fight to happen!!!! If Money wants the fight then say you want the fight not that Manny isn't asking for it!!!!
Here's an idea from a non promoter: 45% of ppv numbers and gate each guarenteed to each fighter. Winner gets 55%. Just sign the fight there is no bigger fight in boxing, everyone wants to see it and it would be the biggest fight since Tyson v Holyfield

I never said you disliked him for no reason, I never said any of you were wrong, what I said is you are all on here saying crazy shit because you hate him, ok, so he's a cocky asshole, there is the reason you all dont like him, and that's the reason you all assume everyone will beat him, hey, I wont disagree that Manny is the man, I wont even disagree that he might beat him, but its because of his own merits, not because I hate Money..that's just biased, at least show the man love if youre gonna disrespect him
Posted By: nic (Guest) on November 18, 2009 at 02:05 AM
not to get all historically and culturally technical, but the Philipines were a Spanish colony, which more than likely means Manny has at least a little Spanish in his ancestry...making him by extension Latino.
Posted By: jojo (Guest) on November 18, 2009 at 11:16 AM
To boom hip hop jorge and even chris, latino isn't even a race nor colture it derives from a label and the philipinos where conquered by the portugese not the spaniards remember not latino nor hispanic, be true to your self
