Pacquiao-Cotto Generates 1.25 Million Buys
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 11.20.2009

According to HBO, the Firepower PPV featuring Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto reached 1.25 million PPV buys, making it the biggest selling event - boxing or otherwise, of the year while generating generating $70 million in revenue. The figure includes 650,000 buys from cable homes and 600,000 from satellite and telco homes. A record 110,000 buys from Puerto Rico, Cotto's home market, are included.

In comparison, the Mayweather-Marquez fight came in at 1.05 million buys and combined with the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, 2009 marks the first time since 1999 that two events have gone on to record over 1 million buys. Those two previous '99 bouts were De La Hoya vs. Trinidad and Lewis vs. Holyfield I.
