Sonsona Loses Title

Marvin Sonsona loses the WBO jr. bantamweight title on the scales this morning.
Marvin Sonsona won the WBO junior bantamweight title in the ring a mere three months ago. This morning he lost that belt - without every throwing a punch. Sonsona who will headline tonight's "Rumble at Rama" boxing event weighed in at 117.6 pounds, or 2.6 pounds about the junior bantamweight limit. WBO rules require him to relinquish his belt if he wins tonight (and if he loses Alejandro "Payasito" Hernandez will become the champion).
Missing weight for many fighters is inexcusable, but Sonsona, a 19 year old from the Philippines has grown three centimeters since September and as he matures is simply too big to remain at junior bantamweight. Allan Tremblay, Sonsona's promoter decided to forfeit the title rather then try anything drastic to lose the weight. "He could have drained himself down to 115, but after six rounds he would have been a depleted fighter. Why kill him? Why take a possible loss when we have another plan for him anyway?" The plan is to move Sonsona up to the 122 pound weight division after this fight.
