Mayweather-Pacquiao Negotiations to Commence Today

According to ESPN.com, Golden Boy Promotions' Richard Schaefer is set to meet with Bob Arum today in Las Vegas to begin formal discussions about a potential 2010 mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"Bob and I will approach this without egos and try to get it done under fair terms. Floyd gave me his marching orders and I will see today how it goes and report back," Schaefer told ESPN's Dan Rafael.

Schaefer went on to say that he and Arum have agreed to keep all details of the negotiation process confidential and will only speak on it when they have come to an agreement or if things fall apart.

"I can confirm I am meeting with Richard, but I'm not going to talk about the specifics," Arum told ESPN.com. "It's a meeting where we will try to make the fight. Whether it can be made or not in this meeting, I don't know. We'll see what we will see."

This fight, should it happen, could very well become boxing's highest grossing fight of all-time.

what's up with pretty boy floyd having Richard Schafer of Golden Boy do the negotiations? what happened to him being his own man and doing his own deal? I'm starting to believe the rumors that Golden Boy bailed out lil Floyd.

What are you talking about,idiot.
It's well know(to boxing fans) that Mayweather and his manager Al Haymon and Bob Arum hate one another and this fight would not get made without Schaefer as a go between.

Yo JoJo.....Golden Boy and Mayweather have been working together since the Mayweather vs DeLa Hoya fight....watch the Hatton and Marquez vs Mayweather fights and u will see Golden Boy Promotions Logo EVERYWHERE....Stop hatin'...I know he the most HATED Boxer in the world but damn man....relax...be thankful that they and Floyd are actually wanting to get this fight on...Really man...Floyd cant do anything right in anyones eyes, Can he??? I just wanna see everyones JAWs hit the floor and read everything EVERYONE will have to say if Floyd actually BEATS Pacquiao....

Fern- how is it "hating" to express a little disbelief in Mayweather? He may very well be the most "hated" man in boxing, but it's pretty well earned, at least in regards to Pacquiao. You can only talk so much trash and hide behind all these excuses before people get sick of it.

He's a tremendous boxer, there's no doubt. But we like to watch him BOX, not hear him TALK.

What happened to "Floyd duckin Pac-Man" nuthuggers? Expect this fight to not live up to its hype. Floyd is gonna circle the ring all night and pick pacquiao apart. Floyd by UD

Lanoit-Floyd talks to sell man...the guy is if not the best 1 of the best BOXERS on EARTH....He speaks and talks his sh!t to sell ppvs...and from the looks of it he always delivers...I dont know about u Lanoit but he always box's but ppl complain about it...HE IS ALWAYS BOXING...what excuses is he hiding behind...did u read this article u r commenting on...they r in talks to make the fight happen...who and what is he ducking....he is just stating the facts...What if Roach comes out and says Floyd lost as an amature...is that an excuse...is he ducking Floyd...no he is just stating true actual facts.

Unknown- THANK YOU THANK YOU...that is exactly what is going to happen...do u really think Mayweather will stand there to trade with Pacquiao like Cotto did..NO..Cotto's best bet to win the fight he had was 1, 2 and duck out....thats the way to beat Pacquiao and the KING of that style is Money May...As for living up to the hype...with Floyd it never will bcus his fighting style is always the same...he makes adjustments when need be...he will win this UD and thats it...

Mayweather had a hard time beating De La Hoya and Hatton and in my opinion I don't think Mayweather can beat Cotto, Margarito and Mosley, so what are the chances of him beating Pacquiao??

What fights were u watching...During the DeLa Hoya fight he just laid back and ripped DeLa Hoya whenever...what made it close was he would just chill in the ropes and let DeLa Hoya swing away...He took rounds off...as for Hatton..I am trying to see other than Round 1 what other round did Hatton win or even do anything to Floyd...If u gonna make a statement make sure u got the facts or something within reason to back it up.

Yo Fern when you see Floyd don't choke while swallowing his man juice!

It's always funny to see idiots saying shit like because Pacquiao beat Hatton more convincingly than Mayweather did then therefore Pacman must be better... it was a different Hatton that Pacman beat, he wasn't the same after Mayweather crushed him

I firmly believe that pure boxing fans will enjoy this fight if it happens. It will be a tactical fight. Defense, cunning vs speed and some power. As far as the people that are just now jumping on the "Pacquiao is the greatest fight ever!" and "Mayweather sucks" express, they are going to be disappointed. I think that it will go twelve rounds with Mayweather winning by a split decision. His defense will be he best Pac Man has seen. Mayweather will make it an "ugly" fight, because he will not engage in a punching contest, or brawl if you will.

may weather is a really good and refined boxer. he emphasise skills.. on the other hand Pacman is more of a relentless fighter goes out w/ all guts. they're styles are totally different. the other talks trash the other speaks humbly. FLOYD goes out with style MANY smiles. people will choose the one that reflects their own style but I guess its safe to say that true boxing fans will be the winner of this fight

does pac man really have 7 diffrent weight class championships, doesnt he have to defend them and 7 belts thatd be atleast 7 fights a year (major) hes not doing that , so how does that all work out?

Posted By: Guest#7280 (Guest)  on November 24, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Fern- I was going by the numerous quotes where Mayweather has said / asked "I don't have to fight Pacquiao / Why should I fight Pacquiao?"

He is always boxing, but for over 2 years now, he's completely ignored the fight people REALLY wanted to see.

I'm not hating on him as a fighter, and that's great that talking sells fights... but only if you TAKE the fight. I'm still waiting for this to fall through because Floyd wants an 80% purse or something.

Posted By: Lanoit (Guest)  on November 24, 2009 at 02:50 PM

Fern, your statement didn't mean shit either. Pacquiao is a lot faster and stronger than Mayweather. Sure Mayweather is a better defender but that don't mean shit to Pacquiao and if Pacquiao can take shots from Cotto, man he will just laugh his ass off at Mayweather's punches. Like I said, Mayweather in my opinion can't even stand a chance if he fights Cotto. That's one of the main reason Mayweather "retired" from boxing, so that he doesn't have to fight Cotto.

I have meet him in person already. I meet him at the Wrestlemania 24 press conference held at The Staples Center..No man juice just Money..

Stone9Cold......
read the comments everyone above you have put up...Let me ask you when did u start claiming Pacquiao is faster better and this an that than Floyd...was it just over the last 3 fights or was it 6 years ago when he first showed up in America...see what u r doing is trying to argue who will win this fight and y...I as u can see will go for Floyd...I know ur saying that Floyd had a problem beating Hatton & DLH and thats ur arguement...So what happened to Marquez...did u fail to see that...the guy who stood toe to toe with Pacquioa and Pacquioa barely won 1 fight out 2 just got blanked out by Mayweather...I am just saying that cus thats ur aguement....U have to think about what everyone has been trying to do against Pacquiao and thats stand there and try to swing against him...History has shown us that whoever is the better boxer will most likely pull it out against a heavy puncher...Tyson vs Holyfield, Margarito vs Mosley, Paciquiao vs Morrales (fight 1) the last 2 fights Morrales was battling his weight gain and his dumb as choice to fight Pacquioa blow for blow...Hagler vs Leonard....We will see when the fight happens...if defense and SUPERIOR boxing skills can beat this whirlwind called Pacquiao...

Lanoit...Have u ever said no to doing something and then done it??? thats exactly what happened here....he said no to Pacquiao and now is trying to set it up....I honestly hope the purse is 50/50 and 60/40 going to the winner...I really wanna this fight myself...We will see what happens when it does...

Someone said Mayweather crushed Hatton. Nope. It was close, boring fight and Hatton walked into a punch. Manny crushed Hatton. They could've fought prior to Hatton-Mayweather, and the result would've been the same. Manny's more talented and more dangerous than Floyd could ever dream of being.

Posted By: kaktus316 (Guest)  on November 24, 2009 at 04:31 PM

Floyd's "marching orders" almost certainly include a demand for 90-10 purse split.

Posted By: woody (Guest)  on November 25, 2009 at 02:45 AM

Fern, Pacquiao became a different fighter after he fought Marquez, and if they fight now at 144 pounds Pacquiao will easily finish him off in less than 3 rounds...and like I said, Mayweather's punches are too soft for Pacquiao.
