So who's fighting for THAT strap?
Ruslan Chagaev and Kali Meehan will meet in the not too distant future for the Interim WBA Heavyweight Championship. No date has been set yet, however. This fascinating idea was decided at the WBA's recent annual convention in Medellin, Colombia. The winner of this bout will face the winner of the Haye v. Ruiz WBA Championship fight, scheduled for the early part of 2010.
Kali Meehan has been the WBA number one contender since October 2007 after scoring a sixth-round technical knockout over DaVarryl Williamson. On the ball promoter, Don King, has kind words for Meehan and his challenge:
"Kali has been very loyal and committed to the WBA and their problems while waiting over two years to appear in the world championship match he earned."
Wow, sometime in early 2010 the WBA will have count em: TWO World Heavywight Champions. Pretty neat huh? 411mania will continue to keep you updated on this exciting turn of events.
