Politics May Interfere with Pacquiao/Mayweather Negotiations

It's not the politics of boxing, but the politics of politics that may throw a wrench into negotiations for the uber-mega-bout.

It was bound to happen. Pacquiao/Mayweather negotiations have ground to a screeching halt. But it's not Top Rank's fault or Golden Boy's. And for once, it's not Floyd's fault either.
The hitch comes from speculation that Manny Pacquiao may pursue his political aspirations sooner rather than later.
Sources from the Philippines have reported to InsideSports that Pacquiao will run for a Senate seat representing the Philippine province of Sarangani, Pacquiao's lawyer has also stated this to Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. Sources also mention that Filipino president Gloria Arroyo may even put the squeeze on other prominent political families, allowing Pacquiao to run unopposed.
A source very close to Pacquiao said he was "99% sure [Pacquiao] would run and win."
Arum, a man who usually remains in total control over situations, said in light of this situation, there wasn't much to talk about regarding negotiation updates, until the deadline passes for all Filipino congressional candidates to file their intent to run.
****en S.O.B! this is ******it! I have never felt this let down in a long time. hopefully floyd and manny fight.

This really burns me up... I'm a Pacquiao supporter, but if this turns out to be the case, I will put him down as a coward! A word that I have always reserved for Mayweather, even though I think he's a great boxer! It seems as though, Team Pacquiao are maybe thinking that the Mayweather fight is fight that they can't win and thats why you have all the talk rather it's about fighting Yuri Foreman or running for a senate seat w/he is all but promised to win! Come on Pac, Don't look like a coward!

it is Manny's fault.. this article is bullsh*t.
Manny is willing to fight on an earlier date, March 13.
Floyd knows Manny can't fight in May so he demanded May 1.
Why won't floyd fight him in March since his scared ass has been sitting since Sept.
Stop ducking floyd and starting writing better article....
Don't twist it. Pacquiao is willing to fight sooner than even Roach wanted to.
so who is scared? floyd the duck mayweather

As someone who knows a bit about Filipino politics, I hope Manny doesn't do this at least until after he's done with his boxing career. Politics in the Philippines is dirty to the core and has a way of corrupting otherwise good men.

Hmmmmmm why would Floyd and boxing at that point want the fight in May....OH its cus mega fights and/or fights people wanna see happen in early May...Boxing always tries to put on a Mega Bout the weekend of the 5th of May...and The Boxer is it.....if u actually read reports listen to ESPN watch Sportscenter, Bob Arum himself said he wants the fight to happen in May. The Boxer can u name me the last meaningful, Money and /or Boxing match that happened in March...Just the last couple of 5th of May weekend fights....Hatton vs Pacquiao May 2nd this year. High numbers...and Of Course the leading PPV event of all time Mayweather vs De La Hoya 5th of May 2007....March doesnt make money but May does.....

Pacquiao would make an excellent tune-up fight opponent for Mayweather.

The Boxer: Are you kidding me? Listen, my job is to be a boxing writer, not be a Manny propagandist. God only knows he has enough questionable sycophants in the Philippines. I'm just reporting what the Filipino press is saying.
dean1983: A "real boxing site"? Listen asswipe, I'm reporting what another site posted. You know what other sites do that? Yahoo! Sports and ES-f*cking-PN. Is that "real" enough for you? Eff outta here with that. You think this is easy? We invite you to try it.
