Manny Pacquiao's Blood Argument Takes a Hit
Posted by Patrick Cassidy on 12.28.2009

During the controversy surrounding blood testing for the Manny Pacquiao/Floyd Mayweather fight, Pacquiao has insisted that blood tests so close to the fight would damage his training camp and thus would not be acceptable. This point has since spawned a crazy week of allegations, lawsuits, and mudslinging that's usually reserved for a high profile divorce.

However, Manny Pacquiao may have just hit a wall in his argument that blood testing would hamper his preparations. It's been discovered that on an episode of HBO's 24/7, Manny Pacquiao gave blood approximately 14 days before his fight with Ricky Hatton. This would indicate that their's more concern in Team Pacquiao than a simple blood test.

In other news, Bob Arum has set a Monday deadline to complete the fight.

Then he can give blood 14 days before. Think his main concern is not having to give blood 2-3 days prior.

One test 14 days before the fight is vastly different from several tests at any time up to fight time. read a book

That doesn't mean anything, anybody facing the biggest fight of his life will take every precaution he can take.

Blood. It's in you to give.

how is this news?
its already been stated that he dosent want to take a blood test 2-3 days before the fight....2 weeks is a whole different story

mayweathers camp wanted a test done 2 days before the fight to "avoid any last minute doping". THAT is Pacquiao's problem. we does not want to do it 2 days before because he feels it weakens a fighter. He never claimed he wouldnt take one a few weeks out. Get your facts straight

WOW! I think you missed the main issue. Mayweather dropped the USADA demands and is willing to compromise for another agency.

Also, Manny said he will not give blood more than 30 days out. So why 30 days? You cant take one test 14 days out.

I find it funny that Pac can have every excuse, but Mayweather better not have 1. Did you forget that Mayweather has to do the same test? Maybe so.

Blood. It's in you to give.

haha not by you homie

the whole problem is is that there is peds that can seriously "bulk" you up (enhance everything not just meaning size) with an amount of taking them the problem is they can get out of your system in 2 to 3 days just like blow

mannys just a cheater who doesnt want to get caught, who i think would also get his ass beat, just sayin

In my opinion, this whole thing is Manny's fault because it's not like he will be the only one tested 2 days before the fight. if he gets tested, then floyd will have to as well, it goes both ways.

Actually, Guest #2518, Paquaio recently said he did not want to give blood in the entire MONTH before a fight, claiming it was "superstition".

Get your facts straight, before you blindly defend your hero and tell other ppl to get their facts straight. :)

whatever be the outcome, I'm definitely sure that Pacman is clean and innocent. the mayweathers and money promoter will be expecting a lawsuit and in any circumstances, Pacman will be a winner by two counts!! in the ring and in court!! so how are you guys? happy new year!!!!

Just scrap the fight. Manny don't want to give blood an hour before the fight. In the random testing that Fraud jr. wants, they can take blood at ANY time. It could be 2 days before the fight, 1 day before the fight, or an hour before the fight. Pacquiao has said they can test him immediately after the fight.

Pacquiao should just cancel the fight, besides, Fraud wanted no part of Pacquiao. Fraud knows he can't beat Pacquiao and that's why he's making Pacquiao jump through hoops.

Fraud claims to want a level playing field. That's a laugh, did Marquez fight Fraud on a level field? Schaefer refused any test outside the Nevada Commission's to a test for Shane when the Mosley/Judah was in negotiation.

GBP also said a magnitude of the fight dictates that another testing outside Nevada's should be used. Oh, really?

Why was that not the case on the Oscar/Fraud Jr. fight?

The issue is more one of principle I feel. Manny would likely have had no problem had Floyd simply said "I want this to be the best fight ever. For the sake of the doubters, I feel we should each give a blood test a week or so before the fight so that everyone knows we're the best in the world". Instead, he got his dad to say straight-up "Manny's a cheater, and if he refuses a blood test that's proof".

this is what you call reporting the facts. People stop jumping all on pacs taliwacker. He is a good fighter, real fans acknowledge this. Sadly there are not too many real fans, just fanboys. I love pac because he is the greatest, he won 7 belts he beat people up, he fight like man, Floyd gonna get beat, Pac is my best friend I love him with all my heart....and all that other crap.

Listen, it is good to be a fan, but some of you take the crap too personal. None of these fellas pay your bills, they dont come home with you at night, and they certianly dont care two cents about what is goin on with your life. Support them as fighters great....but stop with this nonesense.

The points have been made. The small amount of blood Pac AND Mayweather would have to give would be minimul and will have NO IMPACT on performance. I really hope this fight happens.

Will the REAL BOXING FANS PLEASE STAND UP.

Usada had stated that the primary target of the blood test is the HGH, but a person taking HGH will START to reap the benefit of HGH TWO (2) months after the initial injection.Usada said that HGH is already undetectable after 24 hrs of the injection, so to prevent the use of HGH and alleged benefit, random blood test should be done primarily 2 to 3 months before the fight and not too close to the fight night. A 30 days limit test before the fight is more than enough because it is pointless to take HGH after that. Pacman is willing to give blood test starting from the january press introduction, 30 days before ,up to 72 hrs before and right after the fight and random, even daily urine test during training camp, which is a lot of concession and beyond what NSAC requires. A urine test is sufficient to detect all those known anabolic-androgenic steroids and other PEDs. This random blood test is just a tactic of FMJ to take as much advantage as he can because between the the two of them, Pacman theoretically will suffers more because he is the smaller guy.Against bull strong Shawn Porter or even the well known cheaters like Margarito and Mosley, if ever FMJ fight one of them,(which is doubtful anyway), I doubt that he will ask for this random blood/urine test because against them, FMJ is the smaller guy therefore more to lose with the disruption of these random blood/urine tests. Marion Jones & all other BALCO alleged clients were never tested positive by the IOC, NSAC and other testing agencies bec. at that time, the BALCO steriod was unknown to them, thus no chemical re-agent to detect it's presence in the blood or urine. Had it not & thanks, for the effort of a whistle blower that send them a sample of the steroid and the subsequent confiscation of Mr.Conte's blackbook listing the names of BALCO's alleged clients, the BALCO steroid and fiasco will probably remain unknown to us.

If roles were reversed, people would be absolutely raping Mayweather. But Pacquiao gets a pass, because he's the nice, quiet guy. Fuck that. He's guilty until proven innocent now.

Just kill this god damn fight already.

Hell, let them both juice until their hearts burst.

If the Mayweathers insist Pacquiao should have a blood test 1-2 days before the fight, how is that random?

It is Mayweather who has a problem. If he can't fight Pacquiao, he doesn't earn the big $$$$ that come with fighting a man with Pacquiao's reputation. Pacquiao's name is bigger than FM's at the moment. It seems to me that FM is in no place to make demands from a great champ.
