Only two days removed from his TKO loss at the hands of WBC lightweight titlist Edwin Valero, Antonio DeMarco says he has no excuses for the way he performed on Saturday night.
In front of a crowd of fellow countrymen in Monterrey, Mexico, DeMarco (23-2-1, 17 KOs) looked flat as the unbeaten Valero (27-0, 27 KOs) had his way with him for nine rounds.
"I don't have an exact response to what happened because I don't know. I can't explain why my body didn't respond," DeMarco said. "I do admit that in front of me I had a great champion, there is nothing to discuss."
"At one point of the fight, I could't execute our game plan," the 24-year-old DeMarco added. "I tried to go toe-to-toe but Valero was intellingent. He deserved to win."
The fight was nearly stopped after the 8th round as his corner knew he had nothing left but DeMarco wanted to give it another shot. At the end of the 9th, it was clear he had no chance of mounting a comeback.
"There is no excuses, Valero was the winner and there is nights when things don't go your way," DeMarco stated. "I promised my wife and daughter that I am going to be a world champion and this isn't going to stop me. I have gotten up from worse."
It didn't help that it looked like DeMarco was scarred to death of Valero. I don't like calling out fighters especially ones that have proved to be a gutsy as DeMarco, but the kid just seemed intimidated by Valero

He looked as I stated on the recap completely "befuddled" and "confused". That he looked scared to you is probably true too.
