Manfredo and Rodriguez Victorious in Florida
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 01.14.2011

Written by Patrick Cassidy

While the Northeast and most of the South dig out from a week of winter weather, the fights and temperature were hot in Key West, Florida for ESPN's Friday Night Fights.

In the main event, the former star of "The Contender" Peter Manfred Jr. looked to start the road to reclaim his past glory taking on respected journeyman Daniel Edouard in a bout that was essentially a must win for both men. Edouard opened the bout with a smart game plan of tactical aggression that gave Manfredo problems early in the fight. However after Edouard began to slow, Manfredo was given an opportunity to turn the fight around and did so with a crushing right hook that put Edouard on the canvas. After that knockdown Edouard appeared drained as Manfredo used his combinations to blunt any offense by Eduoard who appeared incapable of responding. 411Mania scored the bout 97 – 92 for Manfredo who now looks for another big money fight to get him out of his current job of maintaining the Dunkin Donuts arena, the same arena that he once headlined in front of 11,000 people. Eduoard appears to be drained from a long career of tough fights.

In the opening bout well hyped-prospect Edwin "La Bomba" Rodriguez had to claw his way to a Unanimous Decision win in what was certainly his toughest bout to date against Aaron Pryor Jr. Pryor did not have the skills of his father but he used his longer body to frustrate Rodriguez who had difficulty getting inside. By the 6th round it looked like Pryor has gained the upper hand but Rodriguez was able to grind out a victory. Pryor certainly had his moments and some believed he had pulled out the victory but 411mania scored the fight 97 – 94 in favor of Rodriguez with many close rounds.
