Matthew Macklin is set to face world title challenger Wayne Elcock on Saturday for the British Middleweight title.
In a throwback to the days when cross town rivalry bouts were common place, middleweight Matthew Macklin is set to take on Wayne Elcock on Saturday night live from the Aston Arena in Birmingham. Macklin is confident he will be able to rest away Elcock's British Middleweight title.
Macklin who has challenged for the title previously, believes he has what it takes to defeat Elcock. "I think sometimes when you look at local derbies in football they're always nip and tick affairs early on but the class usually prevails and I believe that will be the case tomorrow night. Wayne's a good fighter but I believe I'm simply a better one" explained Macklin.
Macklin's manager, Brian Peters is convinced Macklin has put his previous defeat behind him and ready to begin the next phase of his career. ""Matthew learned a very painful lesson that night but I believe that fight will ultimately prove to be a key turning point in his career. Elcock is a decent fighter and just two fights ago he took on Arthur Abraham who's arguably the best middleweight in the world right now. I believe Matthew's capable of mixing in that class as well and I think he'll prove that with a decisive win over Elcock" explained Peters.
"The Battle of Brum" is set to be a stacked card of British boxing action also featuring heavyweight prospect, Tyson Fury, while in the chief support bout Adnan Amar defends his English Welterweight title against Tom Glover. Also in action is Eddie O'Rourke, Chris Male, Quinton Hillocks and Callum Archer.
