Carl Froch defends his WBC belt against Jermain Taylor in April.
Jermain Taylor will challenge Carl Froch for Froch's WBC super middleweight championship on Saturday, April 25th at the MGM Grand Theatre at the Foxwood's Resort and Casino in a title match televised by Showtime.
Taylor, (28-2-1, 17KO's) is fresh off a WBC title eliminator match in which he scored unanimous decision victory of Jeff Lacy to earn the title match with Froch.
Taylor is also the only boxer to ever defeat Bernard Hopkins twice, and also has victories over Cory Spinks, William Joppy and Raul Marquez.
"Jermain Taylor is a great fighter and I am excited to have him make his Showtime debut on April 25. He's the more accomplished fighter and the better-known guy right now, but in Froch, he's facing the naturally bigger fighter and a man that has never lost. Our viewers have come to expect competitive fights month-in, month-out on Showtime and this fight should be no different," said Ken Hershman, Senior VP and General Manager of Sports and Event Programming for Showtime.
Froch had TKO'd Albert Rybacki on May 20, 2008 en route to fighting for the WBC title in fight televised by Showtime, and won the title in December of that year with a unanimous decision over Jean Pascal.
The fight card is being co-promoted by Taylor's promoter, DiBella Entertainment, in association with Hennessy Sports.
"I expect fireworks in this matchup," said DiBella Entertainment President Lou DiBella. "There is an aggressive, straight-ahead, rugged champion fighting a seasoned athletic warrior. It is a can't-miss fight and the title will change hands."
