Seether - Disclaimer Review
Posted by James Vagenheart on 09.30.2002

First off, I would like to briefly tell you a little about myself. You can
call me James Vagenheart(cool name huh). I basicly appreaciate almost all
types of music, save country, western or anything which features shit
kickers. From DMX to 311 and all the letters and numbers in between but
give me All Eyes On Me by the late you know who and I am as happy as a white
boy can be. I also like sex. With women.

I will keep this short and sweet. I must say, however, that I had never
really heard of Seether before I was recommended to go check it out. The
album starts off as great as anyone can achieve with "Gasoline". Hard
guitar starts everything off and I believe we have something here.

"69 Tea" follows and we start losing some of the momentum. The song is much
slower and less hard rock then the first but still gets a thumbs up.

Ahh now we are getting somewhere. My favorite song on the cd by far is
"Fine Again". Everything slows down to a stop and the band pulls it off
with such grace. This is the song to check out on the album. Even though
no one agrees with me, this is another Scott Stapp. Great vocals throughout
the song and everything mixes perfectly.

"Needles" is next and Shaun Morgan goes off on a Draiman type rampage about
wanting to stick his needles in. The song is not bad at all but why follow
with something so great as "Fine Again"? Why try to ruin the great sound
from before? Oh well, still a good song.

Once again the band slows down with "Driven Under" and I am confused at what
they are trying to perceive. Hard rock or Creed style alternative? Someone
has a gun and I change to the next song. I must get this in though. Why
mellow out again when it fucks everything up?

Another great song with "Pride" and it appears the band is gaining momentum
to end the cd. Great vocals throughout. Shaun Morgan can really sing. As
long as he doesn't fuck it all up screaming like he did in Needles.

Probably my next favorite song is "Sympathetic". Great song and for some
reason I think of Ben Folds. Go figure.

Great drums to start things off on "Your Bore". Towards the end we get, ah
yes, more screaming. I hate seeing great vocalists throwing it all away by
fucking their voices up. Decent song however.

"Fade Away" comes next. Shaun goes from screaming "Get the fuck away" and
going off on silly little screams to this. "I wanna be the one you need"
and "Today's the day we'll find our way". If you like a little Godsmack
with your Our Lady Peace then you're set for life.

Finally we get to the low point with "Pig". Good song and all which is
saying a lot about the band but they need to pick a style. It takes a while
but their next album will either be Creed or Disturbed. Pick one? Silly
screaming at the end. Just as David Draiman has done(in my opinion), once
this band, more importantly Shaun Morgan, find their style they will be a
force in the music business.

I have been waiting for this point. "Fuck It" is next. I am a little
disappointed however. It starts off sounding a little too much like the
Unforgiven. Which would be great until, well you already know. Incoherent
screaming and every other verse is "Fuck It". At least they got one thing
right. Fuck It.

"Broken" finishes off the cd with a high note. Slow, great vocals, great
meaningful words and guitar. Exactly what a band should be. However, I
don't know what Shaun's problem is. He seems truly fucked up until songs
like this where he states "I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh".
Great song to finish off the album.
