411 Games Fact or Fiction 09.21.09: Red Steel 2, PS3 vs. Xbox 360 Controllers, Batman, More
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 09.21.2009
Jeffrey Harris and Jacob Lopez lock horns as they discuss their preference in controllers, a 3-D version of Link to the Past, Street Fighter IV and more in this week's edition of Fact or Fiction.
Alright guys we're back again this week with another edition of Fact or Fiction. Jeffrey Harris joins us this time around as he'll go head to head with 411 Games alumn, Jacob Lopez.
So let's get to it!
1. Red Steel 2 will end up being a huge improvement over the original.
Jacob Lopez: FACT - The original was a launch game, and developers have had almost three years at this point to figure out how to work with the Wii. The Wii Motion Plus support is also an added bonus, and you can bet that the team making the game listened to the criticism that the first one received.
Besides, that rockin' guy with the wicked beard and the cool cane is behind it. I think he wins the biggest badass of E3 award just for his style.
Jeffrey Harris: FICTION - I'm really not that big of a fan of this game and I haven't been following the sequel, but I was really not all impressed when I tried to do the original Red Steel. It was a total shelf-warmer at my Gamestop as well.
Score: 0 for 1
2. There will be a Wii price drop in time for Christmas.
Jacob Lopez: FACT - It has been pretty much confirmed by everyone but Nintendo. Unless they decide to change that plan just to spite us, we will see a $199 Wii soon. I am also still counting on Ninty to introduce that black Wii – just in time for the holidays.
Jeffrey Harris: FACT - Wii would be foolish not to with the PS3 slim around the corner. Especially in this economy it will be important to keep prices competitive in this holiday season. However, some holiday bundles would also be nice to go along with the price drop not just for Wii but for DSi as well.
Score: 1 for 2
3. You enjoy the Xbox 360's controller more so than the PS3.
Jacob Lopez: FICTION - Sony spent a damn long time perfecting their controller design when they first launched the PlayStation brand, and it shows. The PS3 controller is probably the most comfortable this generation. That is not to say that the others suck. I was actually pleasantly surprised when I first picked up a 360 controller back during the console's launch. It feels great. Still, if I have to choose between the two, the PS3 controller is more my thing. If there is anything I hate about it, it's the crappy triggers. Don't fix what ain't broke, Sony!
Jeffrey Harris: FICTION - The PS3 controller is simply a modified more badass version of the PS1 analog controller meaning it will always be more badass than those crap ass chunky fat controllers that Microsoft puts out for Xbox. The PS3 controller is elegance and perfection made real, that simple.
Score: 2 for 3
SWITCH!!
4. Arkham Asylum is the best super hero game you've ever played.
Jeffrey Harris: FICTION - Nope. Listen, Arkham Asylum is freaking awesome. But my favorite will always be Capcom's Marvel Super Heroes from the 90's and playing as Shuma Gorath and Blackheart. Sucks to the haters, Shuma Gorath rocks.
Jacob Lopez: FICTION - Spider-Man 2 was the most awesome super hero game out there. Besides, Batman is a crime fighter. He's a regular old chump who has a ton of money and cool toys.
Seriously though, they are both awesome games, and both are worth owning.
Score: 3 for 4
5. If they added one new character to SFIV you'd want it to be T. Hawk.
Jeffrey Harris: FICTION - No. I want some Final Fight characters in there, meaning Cody and Hagar. Why? Well, the new Street Fighter comics have Final Fight characters. Capcom owns all the characters, why not? These characters are perfectly suited for SFIV.
Jacob Lopez: FICTION - I agree with Jeff. That said, I don't know who else they can add, but I would take Barry Burton of Resident Evil over either of those two.
Score: 4 for 5
6. If Nintendo ever remade a 3D version of A Link to the Past, you'd line up overnight to get it.
Jeffrey Harris: FACT - Most definitely. A Link To The Past is one of my favorite Zelda games, and I'd definitely give a 3D update a try. But the original would still be better ;) .
Jacob Lopez: FACT, FACT and FACT! - I am one of those guys who is totally in love with the Zelda series. I have actually said before that I would love to see A Link to the Past in 3D, but with Windwaker visuals. While on that subject, why not also give us one of my other favorites in the series, Link's Awakening with the added DX dungeon.
"Jeffrey Harris: FICTION - I'm really not that big of a fan of this game and I haven't been following the sequel, but I was really not all impressed when I tried to do the original Red Steel. It was a total shelf-warmer at my Gamestop as well. "
You do realize that this does not in any way answer the question? Basically you said "I don't think the sequal will be better than the first because the first one wasn't that good." The first stupid answer of many.

Screw the Fatal Fury Guys and T.Hawk (not entirely...unless we're talking Guy) Give me Adon and Karin.

um FACT the 360 controler fits in hands more comfortably and this is comming from some1 who used to be a sony person and said he would never get a 360
Posted By: iceberg (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 12:16 AM
WOW.... Really ???????
Hands down Batman Arkham Asylum is the best superhero game and will be up for game of the year!
Spiderman 2?? come on! had potential but was a failed opportunity.
Posted By: ryan (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 12:23 AM
How about Capcom adds a single fucking character from Street Fighter III instead of ignoring it?
Dudley, Ibuki, Yun, or Elena would be awesome additions.
Posted By: spacefight (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 12:42 AM
Everyone knows Superman on Atari was the greatest super hero game of all time. LOL

Jacob Lopez.
You, my friend, are my hero.
Oh. And that stupid Iceberg.
Who seriously comes on here and makes an effort to put his name as Iceberg.
God I hate kids.
But seriously.
I don't own a ps3.
I love my ps2.
And I have an xbox360.
EASILY, My Ps2 controller is my favorite to use.
The Xbox one, while greatly improved than the original one, isn't a bad controller at all.
But theres no way you can combat a controller that fights so bloody perfect, and is in no way uncomfy.
Seriously!

T. Hawk is the truth.
Posted By: Guest#4425 (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 01:29 AM
PS3 controller is a fossil !
And would have grown and adapted had they allowed the boomerang look and feel!
It's a copy and paste Industry for SONY and you fan boys suck up their kool-aid with a smile on your face !
It's taken some tries but the Xb0x 360 controller is a peak top of the line controller !
Hell Sony's PS1 controller errr PS3 is horrible and as are the shady loppy shoulder buttons !
Posted By: Guest#6420 (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 01:40 AM
PS3 controller hasn't changed because it fits perfect as is. When I go to play with the joysticks 1 shouldn't be at the top and the one to the far right. Plus the D pad on the 360 controller is horrid
Posted By: ApolloKaytor (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 02:55 AM
Gotta disagree with you guys strongly, the 360 is much better than the PS3 controller for 2 reasons:
1) Shoulder buttons on the PS3 are crap.
2) Having the left analog as the primary means of direction feels more natural than having it on the bottom like the PS3 controller does (since damn near everything is in 3D now).
Posted By: Guest#4861 (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 03:26 AM
I prefer the 360 controllers too. Playstation controllers beat the old school xbox ones though, those things were horrible.
Posted By: Deathpool (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 03:27 AM
When i went to buy a new console for this gen, two of the deciding features that made me purchase a ps3 were it's reliability over the often red-ring of death xbox360, and it's controller, which i felt more at home with than the xbox controller. there's just something i really dislike about having the analog stick where the d-pad should be and vice versa.
Posted By: Shio (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 03:58 AM
I wish i could use the 360 controller on the ps3. You guys must have tiny hands to think the ps3 controller is comfortable, and those crappy trigger buttons really are inferior for multiplat racing and fps games.
Posted By: kevin (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 04:27 AM
Wow!
People need to argue their controller is superior? In my opinion, the 360 controller has the worst d-pad when compared to other systems from the last 15 years or so. The only thing it really excels, in my opinion, is first person shooters.
I agree with both of them. The PS3 controller is the most functional with every genre. It doesn't excel in regards to first person shooters, but it works well enough. You won't get frustrated with your controller if you play any 2D games.
But, I guess iceberg and #6420 need to defend their purchase. Don't get upset because people have different views than you. I guess different opinions can be a mutha*****...
Posted By: David (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 07:37 AM
Haven't played Batman yet but owned Spidey2.
It was a great game except for it you fought one bad guy on the street you'd fought them all (because the were literally the same one lol).
Posted By: demOcratic (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 07:44 AM
The damn PS3, or any of the Sony controllers, feel so cheaply made compared to the solid feel of a 360 controller.
But that's the Sony fanboys for you
Posted By: Dr. ZY (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 08:32 AM
360 controller > PS3
And Arkham is by far the best super hero game to come down the pipe. Marvel super heroes was a GREAT game, Spidey 2 was good...but neither one captures the feel, atmosphere and just isn't as fun or intense overall as Arkham...at least that's my 2 cents

I'm 6'4" with big @$$ hands and and used to have a 360 andfind the PS3 controller much more comfortable. On top of that the rechargeable battery pack lasts alot longer on the PS3 controller.

So many insecure people.
360 is the superior console at this point,
but c'mon, you're deluding yourselves if you think the 360 controller is superior.
I know opinions can't be wrong, but thinking the 360 controller is better is as close to wrong as you can get.

Other than the D-pad on the 360 controller being broken, I think it is a better controller. The dual shock controller is just to tiny.

Posted By: sf4 fan (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 11:42 AM
I preferred the PS2 controller to the Original Xbox one, but the 360 controller is much better than the PS3 one imo, much easier and seemingly accurate to use.

What the hell does the red ring of death have to do with controllers?
Posted By: Comment Board Poster (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 12:15 PM
The PS3 controllers feel like toys. The 360 controller feels like it is weighted and shaped for an actual hand, plus the button and stick layout is better. The ONLY advantage the PS3 controller has is that the D pad is better.

See, that expression is all wrong. It comes from the Jonestown mass suicide incident. They were actually drinking Flavor Aid.
The term should probably be, "Drinking the Flavor Aid."

Next Street Fighter needs Skullorama.
And seriously, how about another Rival Schools?!

keeping with the origional cast i better get some t hawk and dee jay love.
Aside from that, efff cody he sucked in alpha, bring in Guy and Sodam then Urine and Q not the anime fanboi ibuki or elena (who both sucked)

"Umm... Yellow light of Death? PS3 owners are not immune to this either."
To be fair, its much less common than the RRoD. With the RRoD, you have a sense of imminence, like you know its going to happen. Not too many people deal with the YLoD
Posted By: Drew Robbins (Registered) on September 21, 2009 at 04:12 PM
Holy shit, I never realized people could be this passionate about fucking controllers.
Posted By: Zingy (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 05:38 PM
"Umm... Yellow light of Death? PS3 owners are not immune to this either."
66% chance of the RRoD vs. 3% chance of YLoD?
As for the controllers, I feel that the PS3 controller is nearly perfect. If they would have left the L/R2 buttons from the PS2 intact, it would be absolutely perfect.
And why the complaints about its weight? Wouldn't you want a lighter controller?

1. Red Steel 2 will end up being a huge improvement over the original.
It would hard not to be considering how bad the original was looking back. Motion plus should really improve the swordfighting at least.
2. There will be a Wii price drop in time for Christmas.
I am not really sure they need to because it is still doing relatively well but $50 off might not be out of the question. If they are going to do it I expect it to be on the launch of Mario Bros just to capitalise on the Christmas period as best as possible.
3. You enjoy the Xbox 360's controller more so than the PS3.
Overall I do prefer the 360 controller for the triggers and the placement of the analogue sticks. I also prefer that it is a bit heavier but I will say that the PS3s d-pad is much better, although neither are particularly good.
4. Arkham Asylum is the best super hero game you've ever played.
I would rank it right behind Maximum Carnage on the Genesis and MvC 1 or 2 on the DC. Still the best in a long time.
5. If they added one new character to SFIV you'd want it to be T. Hawk.
Not my cup of tea. If they are gonna add anyone Id prefer it was Deejay (unless he is already DLC?)
6. If Nintendo ever remade a 3D version of A Link to the Past, you'd line up overnight to get it.
Never been a particularly big Zelda fan to be honest so I am not sure I would even buy it, let alone line up overnight. Of all the Zeldas I would say Majoras Mask was my favourite anyway.
Posted By: Ste (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 09:30 PM
Oh and just to say, I work in a video games retailer and in the last 6 months the amount of cases of RRoD have drastically dropped. In fact we now get as many RRoD as we do faulty PS3s (either YLoD or not reading discs) and we sell about double the amount of XBoxes to PS3s. A year or two ago though it was an attrocity.
Posted By: Ste (Guest) on September 21, 2009 at 09:37 PM
Let me say this, I dont know much about Street Fighter, but if SFIV was to add another character, it should be MEGA MAN X or ZERO! Why? X shows its SF love by letting you get an SF move, so how about some love from SF for X? Plus X and Zero kick ass! No Axl though, I don't like him.

How can you say that you know opinions can't be wrong and then say they are wrong. You are an idiot.
Also, the 360 controller was designed with adults in mind. It is easily the best controller to play an FPS with because of the triggers, and I have yet to find a game where it was uncomfortable to have them.
Also, what game uses the directional pad as anything other than buttons anymore? Up, Down, Left, and Right are easy even on the 360 controller. Honestly they should just replace those with buttons at this point because I can't remember the last time I played a game that utilized the D-Pad in non-button function.
I also agree that you must have small hands to believe the PS3 controller is superior. I do know people who feel that way but all of them have small hands. Again, the 360 controller was designed with adults in mind.
If you like the PS3 controller more, that's fine, you're the one using. But I like the 360 contoller more and I am sure as hell not "wrong". It's the truth.
And I'm not being a fan boy because I have both, and I simply feel the 360 is more comfortable and more technically sound for the way controllers are used at this time.
Sorry, this "Truth" guys comment just really ticked me off.

The D-pad alone makes the PS3 controller the winner.
Posted By: Steve307 (Guest) on September 22, 2009 at 06:00 PM
PS3 controlls are better, since I hate the 360s stick and it doesn't cramp my hand. I actually had to rap so sort of pad around the left side of the 360 controller just so my hand wouldn't hurt.
The only downside to the PS3 controller is the L2-R2 trigger, which you have to press down harder to get an effect. They should have kept it to the PS2 style, but oh well.
Sony makes a confortable controller, Xbox does not.
Posted By: Guest#9814 (Guest) on September 23, 2009 at 03:41 AM
Chris, my friend has a hand the size of a catchers mit, and he says that the PS3 feels better than the Xbox controller. And he is classified and adult, so don't tell me that Xbox was made for the adult hands. I used to work in retail, and I've seen about a 5-1 margine of people buy and Xbox, and they were between the ages of 8-16. PS3 on the other hand had a margine of 2-1 who bought it and were adults.
