411 Games Fact or Fiction 06.07.11 Modern Warfare 3, Interplay, Uncharted and More
Posted by Adam Larck on 06.07.2011

Welcome back to another week of 411 Games Fact or Fiction. I'm Adam Larck, and I'm still trying to fully complete L.A. Noire. Other than that, I've just been playing the odd game here and there.

This week, we have Jordan Williams going up against Trace Aber. Let's see how these two do. Time for banner!

1.) It's good that Modern Warfare 3 is getting rid of the nuke.

Jordan Williams - Fiction: I might not be the biggest CoD fan out there but the few matches I did play I never really saw the Nuke as that big of a problem. You had to get a 25 kill streak to get it which was quite a bit of a challenge if you didn't know exactly what you are doing...or the other team really sucked. Sure, it ended the matches early but if I was getting my ass handed to me that badly I don't think I'd want to stick around anyway.

Trace Aber - Fact: Sure, the nuke was cool the first couple of times you saw it or earned it, but after a while it got old. While there are a plethora of problems with MW2's online, it seemed like there were people whose sole purpose was to get the nuke in the cheapest way possible, which got old quickly. I'm glad to see it gone.

Score: 0 for 1 - I don't care so much about the nuke, but why doesn't Infinity Ward try getting rid of the exploits and glitches in the next entry?

2.) With Catwoman playable in Arkham City, the chance for co-op still isn't dead.

Jordan Williams - Fact: I don't think AC will have the co-op that we all wanted. I can easily see it being limited to some sort of Challenge Map or something similar to Splinter Cell: Conviction but as far as a storymode Co-Op? I don't see that happening even with the addition of Cat-Woman to the playable roster.

Trace Aber - Fiction: It might be because I'm a pessimist, but it's mostly because I don't feel that every game needs a co-op (offline or online) mode to be successful. The first game was great without it and this one will survive without it too.

Score: 0 for 2 - I know the developers have said otherwise, but with two playable characters now I'm still holding a bit of hope out.

3.) DLC bundle passes like the Rockstar Pass and Call of Duty Elite will start being used more often.

Jordan Williams - Fact: Yes, this is going to happen and just like Online Pass it will end with the endless and needless bitching of everyone. I am honestly surprised more of the bigger named companies haven't gotten in on this considering how "Project Online Pass" has been used for just about every multiplayer game under the sun. I think it will all end up on what is a better deal...do you pay 15 dollars for a map pack now or just pay 60 for all of the map packs for free?

Trace Aber - Fact: I'm not against anything that gives die-hard fans a little extra incentive, especially when it involves saving money. Rockstar also did something similar with Red Dead Redemption, offering all of the DLC in a bundle price. If you're going to get it all anyways, might as well get it for the cheapest price.

Score: 1 for 3 - As long as all DLC gets included in these, I think it's a great idea to reward dedicated fans with a discount.

4.) A publisher will end up buying Interplay.

Trace Aber - Fact: If there's one thing I've noticed about the gaming industry is that they love to buy each other out. With the company presently having about $3,000 in cash and nearly $3 million in debt, things aren't looking too good for them and it's only a matter of time before they get bought out. I'm assuming EA or Activision will because, hell, why not? There's a bunch of good IPs in there and it'd be a shame if they just got put on the shelf.

Jordan Williams - Fiction: Nope. Why would they?

Score: 1 for 4 - Ii personally hope some company does so that the Fallout MMO can continue production.

5.) Zynga is attempting to make a more hardcore-style game with its recently re-leased Empires & Allies.

Trace Aber - Fact: Are they attempting to cater to more "hardcore" gamers? Yes, and they probably should. Will it work? Eh, that's a different story. A lot of the core gamers (especially us active online) tend to think of Zynga of nothing more than casual games, and we also feel the same about any game on Facebook. I don't think people will buy them as a serious gaming company until they release a console game or something, because I pretty much refuse to play any games on Facebook and Empires & Allies isn't changing my mind.

Jordan Williams - Fact: I don't see why they wouldn't. Zynga knows where its money lies but with the landscape for the social gaming being stuck FIRMLY in the casual zone, eventually someone is going to have to try to make a hardcore title. The big question is if it works in the long run.

Score: 2 for 5 - Sure, the game still has plenty of -ville elements, but the RTS features seem to be a step away from the norm for them.

6.) David Russell leaving the Uncharted movie was for the best.

Trace Aber - Fact: It's a step in the right direction, but Sony is going to have to be willing to start from scratch if this movie is ever going to work. Having a family film that has nothing to do with the game is only going to piss off the gamers who want to see it and confuse the general public who probably won't be interested in the movie anyways thinking it's just about a video game. Stick with your audience, dammit!

Jordan Williams - Fact: As much as I like Three Kings and as much as I HATE Nathan Fillion (here we go) I have to agree that him leaving the movie is the best thing for it. David isn't exactly easy to work with (which is why he constantly works with Marky Mark) so it's not hard to beleive that there was some sort of internal strife or problems behinds the scenes. But of course now that they lost an A-List director the movie is probably going to sit in Development Hell forever...and that's not always a bad thing.

Score: 3 for 6 - I'm not sure of his full artistic idea, but it seems like it's better for fans of the series.

Bonus Question.) What game are you looking forward to hearing more information about at E3 this week.

Trace Aber - Skyrim: Honestly, I don't care what else they talk about at E3. I want to know everything I can about Skyrim and I want to know it now.

Jordan Williams - Cafe and Microsoft: I am just really interested to see what the hell Nintendo has up its sleeve because the last three years have been...interesting to say the least. Microsoft mostly because out of the Big 3 this year they seem to be the ones flying under the radar...and after that...interesting showing last year I am sure they will try to do something to make us forget about it one way or another.

Adam Larck - Skyrim: Oblivion took up over 100 hours of my life, and I'm looking forward to Skyrim doing the same. As long as it's a similar style to Oblivion, the next entry in the Elder Scrolls series will keep me entertained for a long time. Also, I wouldn't mind a Borderlands sequel announcement.

The pair finish this week 3-for-6. What do you think? Agree or disagree with their answers? Let us know. See you in seven!

Regarding the "Uncharted" movie, I think I would rather see someone's unique spin on the material, rather than sit through a two-hour compressed (and 95% guaranteed weaksauce) version of a game I was immersed in for several hours and enjoyed.

Trace answer to the 1st question is stupid. Every killstreak got old quickly..killstreaks in general have gotten old quickly. And kids try to get any killstreak in the cheapest, not just the nuke

You're right, the modes with no killstreaks were much more fun

I sure as hell hope so. I bought Socom 4 without even knowning about the SocomPro code on the back of the manual. It gives you any DLC content for free which is amazing. Although in reality they should be giving all of it for 60 in the first place, but thats another argument for another day.
