"Yet companies don't seem to anticipate that the game they've been promoting for the last year, that people have been clamoring for and fighting with non-fans for the last year, that people will want to hop on those servers the minute they pop that game in their console (and after they install the optional, but damn-near mandatory HD texture pack)."

Didn't they make you pay for an online pass to play on their "dedicated" servers? Sounds like a EPIC fail to me.

Hey yo, say hello to the bad guy, but i've never had problems on COD. Just saying.

I did have some launch day problems with Black Ops, but they were smoothed out by the next day. Again, maybe we're just lucky. The online pass doesn't bother me that much in this situation. Most of the problems arise within the opening week or two of the game and are smoothed out by the time it becomes feasible to purchase a used copy and the $10 online pass. That being said, it doesn't excuse them for having ill-prepared servers that people still paid $60 to play on.

Welcome everyone to another issue of the Living LIVE News Report, and as always, I'm your host for the evening, Trace Aber.

Mass Effect 3 Beta Leaked
Those of you who signed up for the new dashboard preview program had the opportunity to pick up one of gaming's most wanted titles way before release date, albeit only in a beta state. Due to "human error," an early build of upcoming adventure-RPG game Mass Effect 3 was released. Initially meant to only be a private beta, it was instead let loose in the wild for all of those in the dashboard preview program, and you better believe people downloaded it.

The beta features both single player and multiplayer gameplay, but one of the most interesting findings was found in the options menu. Three new modes "Action mode," "Story mode," and "RPG mode," were discovered in the beta. While still being worked on, it appears as these modes allow players to cater gameplay to their personal tastes though few details are available as of press time.

BioWare responded to the leak, and are for some reason apologizing that fans got to play a beta version of the game they've been looking forward to for quite a while:

Hello everyone!

As most of you know by now, this evening an accidental leak occurred of some early Mass Effect 3 beta code. Microsoft has advised us that through human error at their end, content which was meant for internal beta testing was flagged incorrectly and released to individuals who had signed up for the beta of the Xbox Live dashboard update. It has since been taken down and deactivated.

We'd like to stress that the leaked code is in a rough, unfinished state and was not meant for public release. The content is not final, and is not reflective of the quality of the finished, polished game due for release on March 6, 2012 (March 9 in Europe).

One feature that was present in this early build is a set of game play modes that are in development. In the beta code they are referred to as "action mode", "story mode" and "RPG mode". We want to stress that these features are still in the early stages of development and will receive considerable iteration and refinement. These modes are designed to give players an even finer degree of control over their game experience than ever before. Whether it be someone who finds the combat difficult but wants to experience the amazing story, someone who wants to focus on the action and combat game play, or fans who want the rich, story-driven RPG Mass Effect experience they've come to love Mass Effect 3 will support all of these options. We'll have more info in the days ahead!

Some people are actually upset over the inclusion of these new modes, which I personally find ridiculous. They're completely optional and allow more people to experience the Mass Effect universe what is wrong with that? It appears as though BioWare is attempting to cater to a much larger market, and I honestly can't imagine that adding a multiplayer mode and these three options would drastically alter the outcome of the game if it were solely a single player experience. BioWare knows that Mass Effect is their baby, and they're not going to screw it up. In fact, they seem so confident in the game that they want to make sure everybody can enjoy it, so what's the problem?

As with the leak itself, this probably helped Bioware more than it hurt them. From those who actually got to play it (those lucky bastards), the gameplay is much improved and more fun than ever. And that's a glitchy, unfinished version. This will help get people talking about the game, and with more people being able to play it that means more people are able to tell their friends about it. Some are saying the leak was intentional, and while I can't entirely count that it, it seems a bit farfetched. It's not like this game was going to have problems selling in the first place.

Did any of you readers get the chance to play the beta? If so, what did you think about it?

Next Rainbow 6 Game is Indeed Called Patriots
Last week rumors were flying around that the title of the next Rainbow 6 game would be called Patriots, and according to Ubisoft that rumor turned out to be true!

The game sees Team Rainbow taking on the True Patriots, a powerful revolutionary group set to overtake the U.S. government. The True Patriots feel the government is useless due to corrupt dealings, and the game will force you to make "tough ethical decisions," a first for the franchise.

"Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction," said David Sears, creative director at Ubisoft. "This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience."

While the game won't be coming out until 2013, I'll be sure to keep you posted on any more information.

RedLynx Sells to Ubisoft
RedLynx, makers of the ridiculously addictive Trials HD and upcoming Trials: Evolution, has been purchased by Ubisoft and will officially join the company once Evolution is released. The reason for the sell was simple: RedLynx wants to make bigger and better games. And having access to Ubisoft's over 20 studios doesn't hurt either.

"That's a lot of people we can reach out to and get additional services and support, and share information, technology, and best practices with," said co-founder Antti Ilvessuo. Unfortunately, not much else is known about the venture what games can we expect from RedLynx, is Trials over with? Are they going to branch out? I don't know, but seeing what they could do with a small studio has me hopeful that their first Ubisoft-branded game will not only be bigger and better, but will get more attention as well.

Next Alan Wake Game to be Downloadable; Shown at VGAs
Back in May we reported on a rumor that the next Alan Wake title would be a standalone downloadable game, and called Night Springs based off the television show within the game world. According to a Tweet by Major Nelson, it appears that those rumors were correct. While nothing else was confirmed, we can expect to see the game shown off at this year's Spike Video Game Awards. We can also expect an announcement from BioWare about their next project and more information on Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Now if only there was a way to avoid watching the rest of the show.

Joe Danger Coming to XBLA
Popular dare-devil game Joe Danger is losing its PSN exclusivity rights and jumping ship to Xbox, according to Eurogamer. The "special edition" will feature new environments, modes, and characters compared to the original PSN version.

"We're really excited about coming to XBLA," Hello Games' Sean Murray said. "For a start my brother is finally going to be able to play Joe Danger. Well, knowing him he'll probably just download the Trial. It's going to be coming out real soon though, like surprisingly soon. We haven't rushed it or anything, it's just that we've been keeping it super secret."

In what may be a poor choice of words, Murray goes on to say that those playing on the PS3 were "playtesters for changes we've made to the Special Edition."
