Thoughts and discussion on the latest Mass Effect 3 DLC, the 25th Anniversary of Street Fighter, and much more!
Welcome everyone to another issue of the Living LIVE News Report, and as always, I'm your host for the evening, Trace Aber. So I went ahead and finally did it - I purchased a Kinect. I know, I'm just as upset as you. I traded in some old games at Gamestop and got around $120, so I figured, "what the hell?" and got a used Kinect, along with Skyrim: Dawnguard and put the rest down on pre-ordering Black Ops 2. My room is far too small to play any games with it, which I'm fine with, but I am loving the voice controls. There's something cool about leaving a room and saying, "Xbox – pause" and not having to worry about it. Then again, had I paid actual money for this I'd probably be upset. Still, I've converted to the dark side and for that I apologize.
Capcom To Release HUGE Street Fighter Set
Superfans of Street Fighter rejoice – Capcom is going to give you the opportunity to have more Street Fighter than you can shake a stick at. Coming September 18 and setting you back $150, the set will contain numerous physical and digital goodies, although sadly they still refuse to acknowledge that they ever made the original game. Then again, who can blame them, that shit was awful.
So you're probably wondering what all that stuff is, right? Well, obviously it comes with a statue of Ryu punching the air, but you'll also get a 64-page hardcover art book, as well as a two-disk Blu-Ray set that contains a documentary about the relationship between the franchise and its fans, not to mention the Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV animes. If that's not enough Street Fighter for you, the set also includes the Street Fighter animated series and Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. Once you're done watching the movies, you can listen to the 11-disk soundtrack including both official and fan-made music.
Ok, ok, so you've watched all of the movies, listened to the ridiculous soundtrack, looked through the art book, and have grown bored of watching Ryu Shoryuken all over the place. Well, you'll also get four Street Fighter games, all downloadable. These include Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition (with all costume DLC), and Street Fighter X Tekken, which will include character swap costume DLC.
This is a pretty amazing collection if you're a fan of the series, though it makes me wonder why Nintendo couldn't do something like this when Super Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda hit the 25-year mark. A man can dream, I suppose. Any readers out there planning on picking this up, or is this simply too much Street Fighter?
The Battle Comes to Earth in the Latest Mass Effect 3 DLC
Continuing their string of free multiplayer DLC, BioWare has announced that the latest pack, Earth, will be released July 17th (that's tomorrow!) worldwide. You'll get three new maps, including Firebase Rio, Vancouver, and London. These will be available immediately, though you'll have to purchase the remaining unlockables through Reinforcement packs.
There's six new human N7 classes, each with their own special powers and melee attacks. You'll also get a new shotgun, pistol and assault rifle. In addition to this new content, a much more difficult "Platinum" difficulty is included, as well as a new mission objective. You can find the official press release below;
Three New Maps – With the fate of the galaxy at stake, Earth's military efforts have concentrated on three strategic locations. Defend Firebase Rio, home to the N7 training facility, along with Firebase Vancouver and Firebase London in the last stand for mankind. New Array of Playable N7 Characters – Step into the boots of the Alliance's most elite military unit with the N7 Demolisher Engineer, N7 Destroyer Soldier, N7 Fury Adept, N7 Sentinel Paladin, N7 Shadow Infiltrator and N7 Slayer Vanguard. New Powerful and Unique Weapons – Lay waste to the enemy by unlocking the N7 Piranha Shotgun, N7 Typhoon Assault Rifle and Acolyte Pistol. New Powerful Upgrades – Outfit your weapons with 12 new modifications and fortify your gear with 11 unique upgrades to defeat even the toughest foes. New "Platinum" Difficulty – Conquer bronze in your sleep? Take down Silver with one hand? Beat Gold without breaking a sweat? Then grab your friends and test your skills on the brand-new Platinum difficulty. New In-Mission Objective – Randomly occurring during waves 3, 6 and 10, this new objective will challenge teams to keep a targeted agent alive by protecting and escorting them to a designated extraction zone on each map.
Official Halo 4 Console Bundle Announced
Just in case there's anybody out there who doesn't have a 360 but wants one, Microsoft has plans to release yet another console bundle that is more special the last console bundle they released. This time it's centered around Halo 4, the next huge exclusive set to release November 4.
This 360 will make unique Halo sounds whenever the user turns it on, and include a pretty cool-looking case mode, as well as customer controllers. The set is planned to sell for $400, though you can pick up the controllers separately at the normal $59.99 price tag.
While I'm tired of all these exclusive console bundles, and really don't see the point as the majority of the market has the console they want now, but this console really does look gorgeous. I'm not even a Halo fan, but it's hard to deny that would look awesome just about anywhere.
Random News and Notes
-Sega announced at the San Diego Comic-Con that they will be releasing an HD port of Sonic Adventure 2 this fall. In the announcement Sega joked that they were the "masters of secrecy," making note that the game had been rumored a little over a month ago, and that it would be "leaking onto consoles." Always nice to see a company poke fun at itself.
-So, here's some disappointing news. Not even disappointing for the gaming industry, or for the game, or anything like that. This is just disappointing for humanity. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will apparently feature more than 100 swimsuit costumes as DLC. Not just for women, but for all the men and animals too. According to somebody on the team, the DLC will feature "school swimsuits," whatever that means. You can find a ridiculous trailer below that doesn't do much to tell you about the game outside of the women have tits. Seriously, what is this shit? This is the dirt worst.
-Epic has announced that Gears of War: Judgment will be released March 19, 2013 and serve as a prequel to the first game.
-Microsoft has released Kinect PlayFit, which tracks the calories you burn using the peripheral. You can track scores with your friends, earn Achievements, and even avatar awards based on how many calories you burn. It's a free download, so if you have Kinect you might as well try it out.
-Rovio will be releasing The Angry Birds Trilogy, and will feature the original game, Seasons, and Rio. The games will be receiving a high definition upgrade, and more visual effects will take place in the background. No word on price or release date, but I'd imagine something like 800MP, though 400MP would be a much more reasonable offer. Oh, and I'm sure Kinect support will be added.
