411 Games Fact or Fiction 10.17.12: NBA Live, Fable: The Journey, More
Posted by Vince Osorio on 10.17.2012

Hello all! I am Vince Osorio, I will be taking care of Fact or Fiction for the next couple of installments, so bear with me. Any and all criticism is welcomed, as long as it's not directed towards me! With that said, on with the show! Today we have Dan Watson & Dan Anderson in the hot seats.

1.) EA will release a simulation style NBA game by the end of 2013.

Dan Anderson - FICTION: I have no hope at this point of seeing a NBA game from EA. I was behind the idea of canceling one game to focus on the next one since the canceled game was subpar. Makes perfect sense. The problem with EA is that the game they were putting their focus on was again subpar. That doesn't bode well for future games unless there is a new team assigned to the game.

Dan Watson - FICTION: EA should abandon this ship as soon as possible. Go to a basketball arcade game for a while an appeal to that audience, it will be cheaper and more fun. That should be the only way they get market share at this point.

Score: 1 for 1 - EA is too stubborn to let 2K dominate the simulation NBA genre without any competition, but two cancelled games in a row? Both NBA Live & NBA Elite are damaged goods at this point; might as well sit this generation out & have something ready for the next Xbox/PlayStation consoles.

2.) CityVille 2 will be the big hit Zynga needs to turn around the company after a dismal 2012..

Anderson - FICTION: Zynga is in trouble. They are a company that is built to appeal to casual gamers and people that don't usually play games. Right now, they are finding out that casual gamers can have a short attention span. Most casual gamers, if they are even still playing games, have moved onto other games.

Watson - FICTION: I think the Facebook games have died out and Zynga was just last to find out. Really though, who is still playing CityVille or Mafia Wars? This is a dead area and its time to move to apps before its too late.

Score: 2 for 2 - I'm sure bored house moms all around the country are feverishly awaiting CityVille 2 but Zynga's games have already peaked in popularity. It'd be tough to see this one being the be-all, end-all runaway smash that the company needs.

3.) The Happy Madison produced Battlefield Bad Company TV series will come to fruition before we see Bad Company 3.

Anderson - FACT: At this point it is easier and quicker to produce a TV show then a video game. I'm not saying the show will be any good or even get past a pilot being made but the show will make it out (or at least a pilot will) before the video game sequel.

Watson - FICTION: What does Happy Madison gain? They have fallen off the map with terrible movies recently and need to regain the funny name they had previously. To do this, they would be better suited for Call of Duty to regain major credit or stay out of video games all together.

Score: 2 for 3 - Hey, they're already casting for the Draw Something TV series; you'd be surprised by how quickly TV shows turn around. Not that I want to see a Bad Company show, but EA's unwillingness to revisit Sweetwater & Co means that we'll probably see the TV show sooner than later.

4.) Fable: The Journey will be the "hardcore" gaming experience that justifies owning a Kinect..

Watson - FICTION: If you don't already own a Kinect, you probably aren't going to for one game. Microsoft needs more than just Fable, they need a Kinect sports title like Wii Sports. They need a few solid titles and then it's worthwhile.

Anderson - FICTION: I don't know any gamers that are rushing to buy a Kinect just because a Fable game is coming out for it. Kinect is missing something to make it appeal to hardcore gamers. Until it is figured out what that is, nothing will get a ton of people to get one (I'm not including the people who got one because of dancing or exercise games in the previous statement).

Score: 3 for 4 - The boat's already shipped on the Kinect & it'll end up being remembered as a device that squandered momentous potential. A Fable game, no matter how excellent it might be, isn't the game to justify owning the device.

5.) You're excited to play Medal of Honor: Warfighter.

Watson - FICTION: Outside of Borderlands, I'm pretty tired of the FPS Genre. I need a variety of games and this genre is flooded again. It needs another genre to break it up like music did for a while. Maybe racing titles or dance titles, I don't know, I just need a break.

Anderson - FICTION: Doesn't mean I won't check it out eventually but it isn't a game I feel like I have to get. I enjoy shooters occasionally but it takes a lot for me to get excited about one.

Score: 4 for 5 - MOH: Warfighter seems like a competent enough modern military shooter, but everything EA's released as promotional material for the game, from the bizarre Zero Dark Thirty DLC tie-in, to the Linkin Park music videos with game footage, has been off-putting, to say the least. Let's just say that I'm more interested in the inevitable Battlefield 4 at this point.

6.) We will see another Dishonored game by the end of this generation.

Watson - FICTION: It's going to take a bit to release a sequel within 2-3 years. It would be better suited as a launch title and give gamers a reason to buy the next generation.

Anderson - FICTION: With dev kits already out for next gen consoles (referring to new Xbox and PS4), I find it hard to believe that a company will make a game for current consoles when in a year or two new consoles will be out.

Score: 5 for 6 - This generation is on its last legs; while I can maybe see a Dishonored 2 getting released as a last hurrah for the 360/PS3, I think it'd be better suited as a launch title for both of those consoles' successors.

Bonus.) : With the release about a month out, I ask: Do you have any interest in the Disney film Wreck-It Ralph? Does it have potential to become the best video game movie ever?.

Anderson - FACT: Sure I have interest in the movie. It comes across as a typical Disney movie with video games included. As for how successful it will be compared to other video game movies, how do you rate the different movies? Just from straight box office numbers? Do you take what critics think overt money made? Let's just say the movie will do well and leave it at that.

Watson - FACT: Hell ya, this movie has potential. I cannot wait for it to come out.á

Vince Osorio ľ FACT: I haven't been this excited for a Disney production since Tron Legacy, fittingly enough. The movie looks childish, but all of the promotional tie-ins have been brilliant (the free Fix-It Felix iOS game, bus stop advertisements made up to look like arcade machines, etc). With 3D prices & the strength of the family dollar, it shouldn't have much trouble being the most successful video game movie of all time, box office wise.

Check out this neat faux-80s commercial for Fix-It Felix as well as the new Wreck-It Ralph trailer!

The pair finish this week going 5-for-6. What do you think? Agree or disagree with their answers? Let us know. See you in seven!
