Top 5 Games that should get a sequel.
Welcome to week 6 of Top 5.
This week we'll be looking at the Top 5 Games that should get a sequel.
Before we get to that though we've got some feedback to get through.
John Bryant has some idea for remakes of games:
Why not redo my very first RPG: Super Mario RPG for the Wii. Or perhaps they can actually make a Kirby Game that does not suck and appeals to the younger Wii players. or perhaps by some miracle: They could get a Wrestling Game that at least matches the WWE Smackdown series like TNA's game could be on the Wii, cause like with the controller you can control how Samoa Joe does the Muscle Buster whether he drives them down or falls back or something like that.
The idea of doing a wrestling game using the Wii remote is actually a pretty interesting one and it might actually make for a much more fluid and exciting game. Hopefully it's something the makers of such a game will look into. In response to the Kirby being crap part I have to agree with one exception. Kirby on the DS is a fantastic game, which is a lot of fun to play. Other then that Kirby sucks but if they can translate the DS game to the Wii then that bodes very well indeed.
Kari has a top 5 games to remake to share.
Honourable Mentions:
*Dragon Ball Z Legends (SNES)- I'm not too sure if this came out in America but it was a DBZ RPG that played pretty well and had a fun storyline PLUS a different and unique system. Anything DBZ smells like $ and if they did it right it would be a good game.
*Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade) - My favourite game ever and is still fun even today. Doesn't NEED to be remade because it can still be replayed but I wouldn't mind it with sweet cell shaded graphics and not those recent TMNT graphics. Level 5 and Konami anyone?
*Street Fighter-This game simply needs to be rehashed from the ground up. Full 3D graphics, more moves, make it storyline based like Tekken, heck even throw in some of the fighting elements from Tekken. People will buy just because it's Street Fighter and it also gives it the chance to reclaim it's thrown as "King of Fighters"...no pun intended :)
*Final Fantasy VII & VIII- with part VII its obvious but part VII was also a great game it just didn't impact the gaming world like its predecessor. Both games are a plus. You can remake VIII first so the fanboys fiend for VII while they get a dosage of Final Fantasy.
Top 5 (no particular order)
1. Sonic & Knuckles (Genesis) - At the time Sonic was still rival to Mario and the two mascots were at a tie. This time Sega threw in a little twist with a side character making 2 different games in 1. Plus you had the ability to take that side character (Knuckles) and play all the original Sonic games as him. Make Knuckles bad ass like how he used to be give it a nice shiny PS3 coating and ladies and gentlemen you have yourself a game. Not to mention all of the extra goodies from Sega that could be included.
2. Earthbound (SNES) - I believe this to be the most fun and engulfing RPG I have ever played in my life. It's a cult classic and I think Nintendo would do it justice on the Wii and since Ness has been back in the spotlight thanks to SSB he deserves his chance to shine.
3. Resident Evil 2 & 3 (Every system basically)- Although Resident Evil 2 might be the better game I always believed part 3 was better by the looks of it. Plus fans familiar with the movie would pick up part 3. Either way if both were remade with the RE4 engine they will sell like hotcakes.
4. Marvel vs. Capcom- The most addictive fighting game and also most competitive one to boot. Too bad Activision would put a stop to that. When is the contract up anyway?
5. X-Men (Arcade) - This game OWNED and whoever says it didn't can stick it where the sun don't shine. I hate Activision's X-Men graphics but if they can make it like how they looked in Marvel vs. Capcom and make it completely 3D this game would ROCK! Make sure the controls are primo and the AI isn't so dumb and you have yourself a winner.
A good selection of games and I agree with you with Resident Evil 2 and 3. If they were re-made with the resi 4 engine they would be not only awesome games and but would certainly be something a lot of people would go buy again.
I too would like TMNT and X-men Arcade to be released on a console, maybe Xbox live would be the place for them to go if a remake couldn't be arranged. 4 player online TMNT would rock.
Street Fighter 2 was actually remade in 3D and, well it sucked. However for a much better 3d Street Fighter game I recommend finding Rival Schools (or project justice) but I am a little surprised they didn't try to stick with 3D Street Fighter and they just sort of gave up instead.
And now on with this weeks' Top 5 selections.

5. Dynamite Heady
This game kicks ass. It's weird, funny and playable as hell. Treasure can do no wrong yet they don't seem to make sequels. Maybe they could make an exception for this one. Just for me. Please.
4 Vagrant Story
There was something very odd about this game. It was a very dark and messed up game where you were never really sure what was going on. But the characters were interesting and the fighting engine was fantastic for a RPG (you picked a body part to hit on each enemy). A journey back to this world is surely in order.
3 Jade Empire
I wasn't sure whether to include this because even though it's beautiful and amazing to play I'm sure Bioware will make a sequel at some point. But it hasn't been officially announced so here it is. If you haven't played it you're missing out on a moving and interesting story with a genuinely shocking plot twist. And you get to feel like the hardest man (or woman) on the planet when you play kick the hell out of half a dozen people at once. Seriously go play it already.
2 Skies of Arcadia
Oh Sega, you brought us this world of pirates in flying boats and you get up to fall in love with the game and create a vibrant and exciting world and then you just leave it. I want more, why does it seem like Sega aren't listening to anyone anymore?
1 psychonaughts
What can I say about this game? Okay how about it's genuinely funny… as in laugh out loud funny. Or that its' probably the best platform game on the last generation of consoles, hell it's the best one in years. Its better then Jak, Ratchet and even Mario Sunshine. Yet no one brought it. Now all you people who didn't buy it. Yes you… I'm talking to you. Get out there and buy it. I want a sequel and the best way to get this is if more people buy the original. Go go go.
Hon mentions –
Nights – Well it's Nights so it's automatically awesome but it's yet another Sega game where the company just seem to have stopped caring about actually making games people want to play anymore.
Grim Fandango – Another Tim Schafer game and another game that didn't sell well. Seriously what's wrong with people today, this is funny and moving and just generally great. I want more Manny.

5. Beyond Good and Evil
This was a pretty awesome game, and was intended to be a trilogy but that was offset by poor sales. There better be damn sequel sometime because that ending was a cliff-hanger!
4. The Legend of Dragoon
A pretty fine RPG from Sony, about as good gameplay and story as most of its contemporaries, and some awesome character designs. I am surprised there has been no attempt to sequel it.
3. Breakdown
This game was one of the most exciting and innovative FPS's ever produced for a console. Mixing gunplay, hand to hand fighting and the mindset that the events of the game are always from the view of the protagonist, this game rocked on so many levels, and there are so many possibilities they could use for a sequel
2. Haunting Ground
I'm cheating a little, since Haunting Ground is so similar to the Clock Tower games it might as well be Clock Tower 4, but it's not so I can put this in the list. I don't care what they do in it, just make it Capcom!
1. Psychonauts
This game should have outsold Jak, Ratchet Sly and all those other pretenders (except Mario of course) put together, but barely beat any of them individually. Still, the game very much set up for a sequel, if not a few, down the line. I only hope Raz keeps his hat and goggles because his hair style sucks.

5. Nintendogs
I bought the first game and in the end I hated how they wind up giving you so little to do and making everything seem tedious. I'd like to see a sequel where I get to do more then just three contests a day and not have my gaming time limited to about 45 minutes a day.
4. Seaman
It was so innovative and hilarious at times that it's sad it had to be released on a console that quickly died. I think a sequel to this game would be awesome for a system that the Nintendo DS.
3. Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross wasn't exactly a sequel to me. More like a spin-off. Where were the cool Double/Triple techs? Where was the time travelling? And why did Cross give you like 50 characters to play as when you only needed like 10 or 12 at the most? Chrono Trigger was so much better and needs a direct true sequel.
2. Skies of Arcadia
One of the best RPG's not called "Final Fantasy", I'd love to see a Skies of Arcadia 2 sometime. The airship battles alone almost made the first game awesome. I heard a long time ago there was going to be a sequel but I've seen no official update.
1. NiGHTS
Do I have to explain this to you? Okay, I will. NiGHTS was a game released for the Saturn that reached cult status. Since then I've been waiting for a sequel to come out. It's been over 10 years and nothing. But you know what? Terminator, Clerks, and Metroid all waited many years before they got a sequel, so I remain hopeful. And no, Christmas NiGHTS was not a damn sequel!

5. Powerstone
My friends and I spent hours playing the four-player matches on the Dreamcast, and for good reason - it was silly, simple combat that had a bit more depth than Smash Brothers. I'd love to see a Powerstone 3.
4. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Chaos Bleeds was an intriguing, if not terribly awesome, game. A sequel that fixes some of the control issues and adds a bit more flexibility to the combat system would rock.
3. Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy
This game was one of the finest I've played in a long time, and I'd love to see the continuing adventurers of the characters. The last quarter of the game was cinematic fun, and I think it could continue fairly well.
2. Zombies Ate My Neighbours
Yeah, this was on my list for the games that need to be remade, but an outright sequel could be just as fun.
1. Psychonauts
A popular choice, to be sure, but for a good reason - it was innovative and had a great story. I'd like to see it continue on.

5) Grim Fandango
Tim Schafer is often unappreciated by the mainstream for his ability to create compelling and likeable characters from the most unlikely of sources. Sure, a lot of his work deserves to be revisited (Psychonauts, Sam and Max, Day of the Tentacle) but Grim Fandango has the characters that I'd love to see back the most.
4) Jade Empire
An underrated classic that didn't sell nearly as well as it should have. Bioware gave us a KOTOR 2, and will give us another for the 360 most likely, but I hope they don't forget about the game that's actually BETTER than their famed Star Wars RPG.
3) Oddworld
Any new game in the Oddworld universe will do. The series was originally intended to be a quintology (five games), but after problem's with Stranger's Wrath, it appears that Oddworld Inhabitants have called it quits for a while. I sincerely hope that we are one day able to see the climax of Lorne Lanning's vision.
2) Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
One of the few stand out third party exclusives for the Gamecube didn't reach anywhere near a wide enough audience. A 360 or PS3 follow up could very well change that.
1) Chrono Trigger/Cross
The trademark of the name "Chrono Break" was simply a dangling carrot to a mass of suffering fans that are clamouring for another instalment in the Chrono saga. There have been online petitions, fan made remakes, and countless letters sent to Square Enix. Anyone remember doing that for a Valkyrie Profile sequel? Yeah, me neither. The audience is there, and they've been waiting for over 6 years now.
Well another top 5 done don't forget to send feedback if you think we've forgotten something or we're wrong.
