I'm bringing Sony back!

Greetings one and all to another life changing edition of The SIXAXIS. With launch week behind us, we face a new world. A world who has realized the awesome power of the PS3! Could world peace be far behind? This writer says no.

Come fly with me!

Sony News

It sold how many? That number has me shaken and stirred.

It is coming from several sources that the PS3 sold and sold big in the UK. Hang onto your monocles folks, according to the reports Sony sold a jaw dropping (or if your Bill Gates and Reggie Files Aime, vomit inducing) 165,000 units!

To put into perspective just how big of a launch this is; Nintendo's Wii sold a 105,000 units and Microsoft's 360 sold 70,000 units at their respective launches. In fact the only recent console to get a launch like this was the PSP which came in at 185,000 units. These numbers mean that Sony made over 93 million dollars (£70,125,000) and that's before any games or peripherals were even purchased!

These numbers are staggering. This launch could put Sony right back into the middle of this console war. Plus with the world buzzing about the launch and Playstation Home debuting, Sony just may be gaining some serious momentum here. Yes, the future is wide open my friends.

Crikey with that kind of money, I could finally buy a shirt!

The blokes in the land of the….Kangaroo, were treated to the launch of the world's most awesome machine as well last week and they responded in droves. Early numbers suggest that Sony sold over 20,000 PS3's! The impact of all these number is much bigger when you consider the fact that there really is no EBay market for the PS3 like their was with the original launch, so all these sales are most likely legit.

Considering all the peripherals and titles that go along with a launch like this, Sony is probably looking at a cool 140 million in sales after this week. Perhaps the best news is that with all this high end electronic equipment and money being thrown around, there was no violence to speak of. Which is good because if there is anything that Crocodile Dundee has taught us it's that Australians carry big knives. Oh and for the record, I love the fact that I can take an entire country's culture, way of life, and contribution to the world populous and stereotype it down to a single movie character.

You gotta love virgins!

So you've been camping in from of Virgin Megastore for days in hopes to get your hands on some of the most sought after technology in the world, the PS3! You're tired and sore and you smell like BO and nachos. So what would make you forget your pain? How about a free 46" flat screen TV…for free!

That's right, as the crowd in front of the mammoth store counted the seconds to midnight, a Sony rep appeared informing them that each and every one of them would be receiving one of the monster TVs. There was a crowd of around 120 when this announcement was made.

Wow, what a great idea. I mean these are no junk TVs. They go for about $4,700 retail. So $1000 for a PS3 a few games and a flat screen TV; not a bad haul for a few days of sitting on your ass eating Doritos.

Doofus may cry!

All the exclusive titles that have broken platform ties in the name of the all mighty dollar have gone too far in the eyes of geeks…er respected gamers. Yes, the die hards are mad as hell and are not going to take it anymore. So what is the straw that broke the camel's back? Capcom's, Devil May Cry.

Yes, the geeks of gaming have you united to shake their collected scrawny arm in disgust at the gaming power. So how do you take down a heartless corporate machine? Why, with an internet petition of course. The petition calls for it's signers to boycott the company until they see the error of their ways and keep the title exclusive.

A Capcom director Christian Svensson had this to say in response"We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes." Translation "You are all dorks and I can't hear you over my piles of money."

Ok, this is stupid. Do you really expect this company to piss off Microsoft and lose a lucrative relationship to help a few nerds sleep better at night? I highly doubt it. As of release time the survey has 7974 signatures, but with such responses as "PS3 is teh suxxors now that it has NO DMC4. Oh NOESSSSEERAfe" it's hard to say what kind of impact this is really having.

If you'd like to how startlingly illiterate Capcom gamers are, check this link out.

New Releases

Launch of the week!

Tom Clancy's: Splinter Cell Double Agent: Yes the Solid Snake rip off is coming to the amazingly realistic PS3. I can only imagine the use of shadows in this one.

PS3

Gauntlet 2 : Old school classics for download.

Rampage World Tour: Seriously, we got tons of them.

Championship Sprint: Yep, tons of old games to play come on, you know you want to.

Rampart: What are you waiting for?

Joust: Come on it'll be fun!

Super Rub a dub: Give us your money now, damn it!

PSP

Xyanide Resurrection: You are a futuristic pilot looking to take down an evil witch. I guess they rename the Land of Oz to Xyanide in the future.

Hard Rock Casino: A game that combines the addiction of gambling with the noise of Rock and Roll, all mixed together with a liberal dose of commercialism.

Disney's Meet the Robinsons: If I were a Disney exec, I don't think I'd be so eager to slap the company name on this project.

Survey of the week

With the huge success of the PS3 launch abroad do you now finally believe that Sony is back?

Rock the vote!

Results!

What series would you like to see made into an RPG style game (ex. KOTOR)?

Indiana Jones 20%
Matrix 36%
Firefly 20%
Battlestar Galactica 24%

What? Indiana Jones tied with Firefly? This is ludicrous. All you people are still hung up on The Matrix? See this, this is what's wrong with gaming today.

Bargain Bin

Before Tobey MacGuire's prepubescent voice filled the theatres the world over, Spiderman took on a different form for the PSone; one that was more true to the comic books.

Like usual, you fill the tights of the friendly neighborhood hero. However, this is a whole new story. You start off at Dr. Octavius' (who has reformed from his evil ways) press conference where he is unveiling a new invention. But before it can be shown off an imposter spiderman sweeps in and steals it, leaving the world to believe Spiderman is now corrupt. You continue through the game fighting a plethora of famous enemies, outrunning the cops, and clearing your good name.

This game is loaded with all sorts of goodies for the Spiderman fan. You'll come across favorites such as Scorpion, Venom, Mysterio, The Punisher, Captain America, The Human Torch, and more. Not to mention all the unlockable content.

The game has smooth controls that make Spidey movement a snap. The story is deep and filled with fun comic book action. The voice acting is spot on and really makes the story come to life.

It's a must have for any Spiderman fan and it more than earns its place in the bargain bin.

EBay: $ 7.24

I pray to God some developer over at Rockstar sees this and makes it happen.

I don't want to cram pimpage

Damian Sarcuni takes a look at some of the cheapest BS in gaming history in an all new edition of Angry Gaming.

Theo is back with another edition of Nintendophiles. If you've never read it before, he covers all the news for the system that came in SECOND place in launch sales. Ah yes, the hate burns deep, doesn't it Fraser?

Chris McCarver takes a look at Crackdown for the 360.

It's over

World domination has begun!
