The Select and Start News Report 12.03.07
Posted by Vincent Chiucchi on 12.03.2007

Welcome to the Select and Start News Report, where we don't fall for the Hogans' bullshit. Seriously, if you don't think at all that this Hogan divorce is some kind of work, then you obviously do not know enough about the Hogans.

Speaking of bullshit, let's jump into our first bit of news, and boy oh boy is it something...

Big News

GAMESPOT FIRES REVIEWER OVER LOW SCORE? [credit: Penny Arcade, Kotaku, Destructoid, WIRED, Blue's News]

Zelda fanboys are probably excited to hear that Jeff Gerstmann, the man behind the "OMG CONTROVERSIAL 8.8 ZELDA REVIEW", has been fired from GameSpot. The exact reasoning for the firing wasn't given, but rumors are heavily abound (and it could be true by the time this report is posted) that he was fired because he gave Kane & Lynch: Dead Men a 6.0, which apparently pissed off Eidos because they advertised the game heavily on Gamespot. Editors from 1UP were marching outside the GameSpot offices in support of Gerstmann, who has yet to say anything about why he was fired, and Destructoid even now has a fake ad calling their site "CashWhore". GameSpot is claiming however that Gerstmann was fired for "larger reasons" and that Gerstmann being fired around the time of the ads being pulled is a coincedance. Meanwhile, the GameSpot users seem to be voicing their opinions as well, as the game now has over 800 user reviews for it, most of them being 1.0. This is obviously an attack on GameSpot rather then the game itself.

This is the video review for the game:

That's unfortunately how the corporate world works. If you don't like what they're advertising, then you're going to get some angry calls from them giving you two options: Either you start liking them and fix the situation, or stand by your word and watch them leave. GameSpot apparently decided to go with the former, and Gerstmann, a man once in controversy over the 8.8 Zelda review, suffered for it. It sucks that GameSpot would do such a thing, but money talks people. I still think it's bullshit however, because if Eidos decided to pull out of their advertising, wouldn't GameSpot be easily able to find someone else willing to shill? When I heard about this I visited GameSpot and saw a Dewmocracy ad, and then a couple hours later I'm getting an XPS Alienware ad. Just how much fucking money was Eidos exactly paying them?

NINTENDO SUCKS SAYS...GREENPEACE?! [credit: Kotaku, GameDaily, Gamasutra]

Greenpeace, the radical environmentalist group, has released it's sixth "Guide to greener electronics", which rates companies based on hazardous chemical substances in their products and how they handle taken back products and recycling obsolete ones. According to the actual report, the reason Nintendo got a 0.0 was because most of the criteria was based on information on what their policies are, and Nintendo has none. This does however leave room for "infinite room for future improvement".

So technically, it isn't that the Wii or any of Nintendo's products are dangerous, but because Nintendo isn't actually specific on what they do. To me this kind of scoring is a bit absurd, and really, what are the odds that people aren't going to buy a Wii because it's dangerous for the environment? You know with this kind of absurd scoring policy, maybe the guys who do this report should work for GameSpot.

THE BIG THREE ARE THANKFUL [credit: GameDaily, Gamasutra, GameSpot]

So November has come and gone, and the sales for video game consoles on all three sides has been positive. Microsoft announced that they've sold 310,000 Xbox 360's during Black Friday week (November 18 to 24) and claimed to have outsold the PS3 2:1 during the same period, which of course Sony says is BS. Sony didn't release any actual numbers, but said that sales for the PS3 increased 245% during that week. Sony also stated that since the release of the 40GB PS3 at $399, sales for the console have tripled. Meanwhile, Nintendo stated that Thanksgiving week was their best US week ever, selling 350,000 Wiis and 653,000 Nintendo DSes.

Now hopefully they can release some of those highly anticipated games before the next Thanksgiving.

READY TO ROCK...WHEN IT ACTUALLY WORKS [credit: GameSpot, 1UP, GameDaily]

So Rock Band has been released and already we're seeing technical difficulties all over the place. The PS3 version of the game was supposed to be compatible with the Guitar Hero III controller, but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case, and since individual sets for each peripheral have not been released, that is causing frustration amongst consumers. Harmonix however says they're listening to our complaints and are working as fast as possible to correct the situation. This is on top of previous complaints that the drum kit and the Rock Band guitars have had issues.

Well this really has to suck for Harmonix. Here they have a great music game that a lot of people have been waiting to play but the perhiperals have been screwing up. I hope they get they're problems fixed by the time the individual sets come out, or else Rock Band's popularity is going to tank fast. And you just know that someone in that Activision office is laughing their ass off at the news.

Tidbit News

-Gamers really love the classics, or at least the classics available on the Virtual Console. Nintendo recently stated that sales for the Virtual Console service on the Wii has reached 7.8 million downloads totaling an estimated $33 million. Nintendo however is unsure whether this would be considered too low or a lot. [credit: Gamasutra, GameDaily]

-Despite the continued success of the Wii in North America, George Harrison says that Nintendo does not have any plans to boost Western game development and relies on third-party publishers to fill the gap. [credit: Gamasutra, GameDaily]

-Since launching in September, the PSP slim has now reached the 1 million mark in sales over in Japan. [credit: Gamasutra, GameDaily]

-THQ CFO Edward Zinser has resigned from the company, effective immediately. No specific reason as to why he has resigned was given, but THQ says it was a mutual agreement and that it has nothing to do with the financial condition of THQ, which has seen a net loss of $7 million due to the lackluster sales of Stuntman and Juiced 2. Rasmus van der Colff, vice president and controller, will be serving as interim CFO. [credit: Gamasutra, GameDaily, GameSpot]

-Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says that the PS3 and Xbox 360 should be priced at $200 by 2009 in order to be successful in the wider marketplace, pointing to how the Wii is successful largely in thanks for the $250 price tag which consumers are now accepting as the norm and consumers don't really care if it's technically inferior. [credit: GameDaily, Gamasutra, GameSpot]

-Pokemon Snap is heading to the Japanese Virtual Console, but with one slight change...you can use the photos taken in the game and send it to others online. [credit: 1UP]

The Other Crap

PROGESS GAMING

I've beaten Phoenix Wright 3, still enjoying Star Fox 64, and still keeping a Brain Age of 22. Also I've been checking out the Mii's on the Check Mii Out channel and copied some favorites. I've got Mii versions of Chris Griffin, Naruto, Kakashi, Cookie Monster, and a couple others. If you really like creative Miis, you have to check out that channel.

THE SPECIAL SUPER SMASH BROS. BRAWL ROUNDUP

Here we are, December 3rd, but no Smash Bros Brawl. Today was supposed to be the day we would finally be able to play the game, but between the holiday rush of games including Nintendo's own Mario Galaxy and trying to perfect the online features, we have to wait until February to get our hands on the game.

So today, instead of doing the regular Weekly Smash Roundup, I'm going to list everything that is known so far based on what has been learned from the official site, other sites and online videos of the demo, as well as speculation and rumors on other info.

The Characters

The Veterans: Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser, Peach, Ice Climbers, Zelda

The Newcomers: Zero Suit Samus, Meta Knight, Pit, Wario, Snake, Ike, Pokemon Trainer, Diddy Kong, Lucas, Sonic, King Dedede

Possibly Coming and Why

Captain Falcon - A Smash Bros. mainstay and the F-Zero logo is on the site. I see no reason for them to suddenly remove Captain Falcon.

Mr.Game and Watch - Based on the URL's of the series logos, Mr.Game and Watch's logo just might be appearing soon, although right now it isn't on the site because he hasn't been confirmed as a character yet.

The "Mystery Character" - Just like Mr.Game and Watch, another logo is missing from the series of URLs between Kid Icarus and Sonic the Hedgehog. If you see the Japanese names of the series, the urls put the series in alphabetacal order. So a new character might be appearing who comes from a game that starts with the letters MY to SO.

Anyone who was a hidden character in Melee - So far, a lot of the returning characters not revealed at all happened to be hidden characters at one point. Coincedence?

Krystal (Star Fox) - Her voice actor is credited for her appearance in the game.

Possibly Leaving and Why

Cloned characters - Unless we see a major change in their fighting, anyone who was a clone in Melee (Dr.Mario, Pichu, Roy, Falco, Ganondorf, and Young Link) are likely to be removed.

Marth - Ike looks to be the replacement for the Fire Emblem characters.

Ness - Lucas was to replace Ness in Melee, but Mother 3 wasn't released yet, so Ness stayed. Lucas' profile also contains this sentence: There's a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now. Lucas basically has the same moves as Ness, so it isn't a big difference.

Final Smashes

Most of the character special moves has remained the same or haven't been revealed, so instead we'll be focusing on their new attacks, the Final Smashes.

Mario: "Mario Finale". Mario shoots a spiraling double-helix beam across the screen.

Link: "Triforce Slash". An opponent is trapped in the Triforce and Link goes to town on them. It's likely the damage is so heavy that it'll result in an instant KO.

Kirby: "Cook Kirby". Kirby puts opponents in a cooking pot, and then shoots out items and damages any opponents trapped in the pot. Doesn't look like it'll do much damage, but at least you get items out of it.

Pikachu: "Volt Tackle". Pikachu turns into a giant ball of electricity and flies around the screen. If it stops outside the area, Pikachu will likely fall to his death.

Fox: "Landmaster Tank". Fox gets out the tank which is almost as big as some of the stages. The tank can hover, barrel roll, and shoot. Standing on the barrel is a bad idea.

Samus: "Zero Laser". Samus shoots a massive beam that deals massive damage, no doubt making this the most deadliest of finals smashes. Doing this will cause Samus to turn into Zero Suit Samus.

Zelda: Unknown.

Bowser: "Giga Bowser". Bowser transforms into his bigger, more powerful form from Melee.

Donkey Kong: "Donkey Kongas". DK breaks out the Kongas and starts jamming to the beat. It's only seems to work at close range, but he's also invincible during this.

Yoshi: "Dragon Wings." Yoshi gets the wings and can fly around shooting fireballs or breathing fire. Once the wings are gone, you better be over solid ground or else you're a goner.

Peach: "Peach Blossom". Peach puts everybody to sleep and the stage is filled with peaches. You can take this time to recover lots of health or take some cheap shots at your sleepy foes.

Ice Climbers: "Iceberg". A giant iceberg pops up and takes up most of the area. All the characters have trouble walking on it except for the Ice Climbers, and they can use it to freeze everyone else.

Pit: "Palutena's Army". Little centurions fly around the stage dealing damage to whoever they ram themselves into.

Wario: "Wario-Man". Wario basically becomes a souped character with stronger moves, but you can't use the motorcycle, because apparently it makes him go WAY too fast.

Zero Suit Samus: (Name not given). She turns back into Samus. Makes sense but still kind of lame.

Ike: "Great Aether".Ike smacks a foe up into the air and beats the living crap out of them, dealing a heavy amount of damage before he smacks you back down to the ground. Doesn't look like it can eliminate you though.

Pokemon Trainer: "Triple Finish". The Pokemon all come out and perform the Fire Blast, Hydro Pump and Solarbeam at the same time, resulting in a multi-directional long and close range assault. It's super effective!

Diddy Kong: "Rocketbarrel Barrage". He combines the rocket barrels and the peanut guns and goes crazy. The rocketbarrels explode after the move is done, and peanuts that didn't hit anyone can be eaten to recover.

Meta Knight: "Galaxia Darkness". Meta Knight swings his cape, everything goes dark, and then BAM! Your foe is slashed badly. But unfortunately, if Meta Knight doesn't actually hit anybody with his cape, he won't pull of the move. This usually works on only one person, but if you're lucky you just might hit two or three people.

Snake: Unknown.

Lucas: "PK Star Storm". Meteors drop down from above and damage anyone in the way. In small stages, this is a deadly Final Smash.

Sonic: "Super Sonic". Just like Pikachu, he flies around and damages anyone he touches.

King Dedede: Unknown.

The Stages

Stages: Battlefield, Delfino Plaza, Yoshi's Island, Lylat Cruise, The Bridge of Eldin, Smashville, Rumble Falls, Sky World, Castle Seige, Wario Ware, Pokemon Stadium 2, Battleship Halberd, Shadow Moses Island, New Pork City, PictoChat, The Summit, Norfair, Melee Stage: Temple

So far just about all the stages that were seen in videos were confirmed through the site except one: Mario Circuit. It's a possibility that this stage will ultimately not end up being used, but I don't think that's going to happen seeing how a Mario Kart item is in the game. Also expect a couple more Melee stages to make an appearance. I just hope Flatzone isn't one of them.

Items

Just about all the items from Melee and the original are coming back.

New items detailed on the site: Gooey Bomb, Cracker Launcher, Banana Peel, Pitfall, Smoke Ball, Franklin Badge, Superspicy Curry, Golden Hammer, Smash Ball, Smart Bomb, Fire Flower (now in NES looking form), CDs, Assist Trophy, Stickers

New items not yet detailed:

Spikey - A spiked ball that releases it's spikes once on the ground, and touching causes damage. However, you still might be able to move it.

Lightning Bolt - Turns everyone else into a mini, just like in Mario Kart.

Springboard (Super Mario Bros.) - Makes you jump higher.

Stopwatch - No idea what this does so far.

Soccer Ball - Can probably kick it around and do damage.

Assist Trophies

Confirmed: Samurai Goroh, Dr. Wright, Knuckle Joe, Devil, Andross, Lyn, Mr. Resetti, Excitebike, Little Mac, Gray Fox, Saki Amamiya, Hammer Bro, Nintendog, Likatu, Jill Dozer, Orange Star Army

Not yet detailed:

Metroid - This thing was confirmed through IGN or some other site but I've yet to see it in action. Apparently it attaches to another character and drains their life.

Airan - From Sin and Punishment, I've yet to see this character and don't know what he does.

Possibly Coming and Why

Tails - Despite Solid Snake being a non-Nintendo character, Grey Fox got included as an assist trophy. So based on that theory, it's like everyone in the game will have an assist trophy relating to them, including Sonic. Who better to be Sonic's assistant then the man who's been with him since nearly the beginning?

Pokemon

Confirmed: Groudon, Deoxys, Munchlax, Piplup, Meowth, Chikorita, Goldeen, Kyogre, Torchic, Snorlax, Gardevoir, Latios & Latias, Staryu, Electrode

Basically, a lot of the Pokemon will be making their debut and some will be returning from the prevoius games. But the really interesting part is the role Rayquaza will play. Rayquaza was seen attacking Diddy Kong and trying to finish off Fox, making it believe as if Rayquaza will be one of the Nintendo related bosses you have to face, just like Petey Pirahna. There are other Pokemon that can also fit as bosses, especially Mewtwo, so this will really be something to watch.

Music

A lot of famed/beloved game musicians are doing work for the game, and every now and then we get to here a new song appearing in the game. Some surprising songs include the Wii Shop and Mii channels and Brain Age. Music also plays another role in that you can collect CDs to add music for your custom stages and select which themes are played more often on stages then not.

New Techniques

Footstool Jump - You can now get above another character and jump off of them. Useful for performing Meteor Smashes.

Moving and Shooting - You can now move freely with the shooting weapons you're holding.

Tether Recovery - Some characters can use a move where they can latch on and them climb a ledge to get to safety. For example, Zero Suit Samus plasma whip or Link's Hookshot.

Gliding - Characters with wings can glide. In a mid-air jump, hold the jump button and they'll start gliding in one direction, and you can also tilt them up and down.

On-Screen Appearances - Not really new, but the way characters used to be introduced in the original is back.

Three Different Taunts - Characters can now do more then one taunt. My theory is that taunts can allow you to do more in this game then what's been revealed. For example, one of Snake's taunts is that he hides in the box, which from his video was removed by Mario. Kirby always had his taunt be used for quickly removing the power he absorbed, and Luigi's kick can sometimes deal 1% damage. Plus, they never explained yet how Mario is going to have his Mario Tornado when he new down special is the F.L.U.D.D. Oh, and in online mode, taunts can be used to say short messages.

Adventure Mode

Here's what we know so far about The Subspace Emissary.

-The main enemies and villains are from the Subspace Army. A slew of new enemies (and ROB) are introduced, and Nintendo related characters will also serve as bosses. So far the only boss confirmed is Petey Pirahna. Some of the playable characters who were known to be evil or a boss at one point (Wario, Bowser, King Dedede, and Meta Knight) could also wind up becoming bosses.

-Meta Knight's ship the Halberd plays a major role in the game, as the Subspace Army is seen using the ship. But, strangely enough, we've never actually seen Meta Knight anywhere on that ship in any of the Adventure videos.

-Characters are paired up in teams based on how the story is played out, and the player can choose which one he plays as before the stage begins. If their character dies, the other character on the team takes over. Two players can team up together, with one taking the role of the main character. If the main character dies, it's a game over, but the assistant dies, the main character can continue on.

-Characters can also be powered up during the game. How? That's yet to be revealed.

-So far we know that Mario vs. Kirby starts things off, then the subspace army attacks. Mario is knocked out of the arena (might change depending on who you play as), then Kirby fights Petey Piranha to save either Zelda or Peach. Whoever isn't saved gets ARROW'D by Wario, turning them into a trophy, and taken away. Kirby saves the princess that was freed and heads to the Halberd, only to fall off when the Halberd is shooting at an arwing. Meanwhile, Pit comes down and revives Mario and journeys with him. Elsewhere, Donkey and Diddy Kong are trying to get their bananas back, but apparently they separate along the way. Diddy Kong encounters Rayquaza and is saved by Fox, whose arwing crashed likely from being shot from the Halberd. Expect a lot more overlapping stories throughout the game.

New Modes and Concepts

Special Brawl - Where in Melee you can only do one kind of special brawl, here you can mix and match to make all sorts of crazy brawls.

Wi-Fi and Spectator Modes - The game can be played online, either with friends you shared codes with or through anonymous quick-plays, where nobody knows who is who. While you wait for battles to load, you can practice on the Sandbag for some time. Spectator Mode allows you to watch the anonymous matches and bet on who you think will win. You can also earn stickers in this mode.

Stage Builder - Now you can make your own damn stages in the game. You can choose size, music based on CDs collected, the background, and whatever objects you want to throw in. And guess what? You can submit the stages to Nintendo, and they just might put it in their "Daily Stage Collection". Here, a new stage every day will be available to play, but the stage will only be there for that one day, then it's gone for good. This could be one of the most exciting and used features in the game, which is likely why Nintendo delayed the game to make sure it works.

Snapshots - Snapshots in the game can now be taken at any time and then sent to friends or even Nintendo.

Names - Not only can you store names like last time, but also store the control settings for each of the four control styles in the game.

Man I can't wait for February 10th.

And now for the MLG Week 3 Recap.

The 2007 Boost Mobile MLG Pro Circuit

Your hosts are Craig Reynolds and MLG founder Sundance DiGiovanni.

Week 3 takes place in Dallas, and so far, Final Boss is still undefeated and once again Str8 Rippin is falling apart. Foulacy decided to quit Str8 Rippin, which has really got to be pissing off Tsquared. I guess this just isn't really his year. Meanwhile, 5K and Perfect Storm has been pulling off some amazing upsets, and now the two teams will be facing each other in a tie breaker game.

Round 3 Match: Team 5K vs. Perfect Storm
Team Slayer on Sanctuary.

We start with Roy from 5K as he already has the sniper rifle, but was almost killed by Xtremist. He takes out Xtremist and meanwhile Naded (Perfect Storm) has a sniper rifle on the other side of the map. Naded sees FearItself and gets a headshot, and setups a shot for Lunchbox and snipes him. We go to Hokum (5K) who takes out Legit with the shotgun, grabs the sword and kills Xtremist then hides to recover. Hokum shoots at Ramby from a distance and goes to the top of the middle ring. He surveys to area for opposing players, sees Xtremist and Legit coming up to him and kills them both, giving 5K an 8-5 lead. Hokum backs off for now as Naded gets back the sniper rifle and immediately snipes Lunchbox. He looks around for another foe, gets shot from behind so he pulls a 180 and snipes FearItself just like that! Amazing play. We go to Roy who kills Legit, then Ramby, and goes back to the middle ring. He beats down Naded to free the rifle but Xtremist takes him out. Lunchbox heads to the ring and kills Naded. The score is now 26-21 5K. Lunchbox goes around the ring, sees Naded inside and assassinates him, then he takes out Xtremist freeing up the sword, and is almost killed until Hokum comes in and saves him. 5K is controlling the middle ring really well as 5K continues to win 32-24. Naded wonders where the new sniper rifle is, and it turns out it's in the hands of FearItself, who snipes Naded from across the map. Legit charges in on 5K, taking out Fear and Lunchbox. Legit is shooting at other players but he isn't killing anybody. Legit shoots down Fear and almost didn't get the kill, then he pushes out to help his teammate kill Hokum for a killing spree. Legit makes it to the middle ring and BXR's Fear. Lunchbox respawns and takes out Legit and Naded for a double kill, chases down and kills Ramby, then kills Naded at close range. He kills Xtremist and takes away his sword as 5K is winning 46-32. He kills Xtremist again with the sword but Ramby is able to stop him. Lunchbox respawns and takes out Legit, then goes below to kill Ramby to end the game.

Winner: Team 5K, 50-36.

Final Boss continues to dominate, but Carbon seems to be losing their edge. They're about to face The Agency next, and if they can't get through them, they could be in serious trouble.'

Quarterfinal Match: Carbon vs. The Agency
Team Slayer at Beaver Creek.

We start with Gho57ayame who goes in and gets the overshield. Ghost is on top of the rocket arc and throws grenades at Mackeo at the blue base. A long range hits Mackeo and then he fires a rocket at Halogod killing him. He looks over at red base and gets double teamed by ElamiteWarrior and Victory X, but is able to take out Elamite. Ghost continues to be fired at until he's finally taken down. We go to Shockwave who kills Halogod and Victory X at the red base, and is able to find the sniper rifle lying around. Shockwave fires at someone in the red base, but is being fired by Mackeo from the middle of the map. He fires at Mackeo who has the overshield, and kills him with two sniper shots before being taken down himself. We go to Halogod who gets the assist on Gandhi and makes his way to the rockets. Halogod gest the rockets and fires at Gandhi, not killing him. He takes out his rifle and kills him that way, but is taken down by Shockwave. Shockwave gets the new overshield and goes for the rockets but is shot down by Victory X who runs for cover. He takes out Karma and gets the assists on Gandhi and Ghost. Victory X chases down Shockwave but is killed by Karma. Karma then kills Elamite as Carbon is winning 22-16. We head back to Shockwave who tries to Mackeo in the creek, fails but gets the overshield. He's immediately getting shot and grenades getting thrown at him. He heads to red base and kills Mackeo along the way. He gets the rockets on the arc, and uses them to kill Victory X and Elamite, then kills Halogod for a triple kill. Shockwave tries so desperately to get a killtacular he screws up and Agency members escape, then he's killed by Halogod, but Carbon is still winning 36-24. Halogod is shooting at everyone around him, goes into red base to recover, comes out and kills Shockwave. Halogod kills one of the Carbon members above him and gets a killing spree, but Carbon is still way ahead. He takes out Shockwave, then gets into red base as Ghost runs right past him and is easily killed. He gets his 9th kill on Gandhi but is stopped short before getting the running riot. We jump to Gandhi who takes out Victory X, finds the sniper rifle, gets on top of red base and kill Elamite standing in front of blue base. Then he gets a jumping snipe kill on Victory X, and scores a triple kill by taking out Halogod. At one kill away, Carbon charges in to finish the game.

Winner: Carbon, 50-37.

Carbon looked to be getting their edge back as they took on Final Boss, and Final Boss...LOST! So now Final Boss is off to the Losers Bracket where they have to take out The Agency in order to face Carbon in the championship.

Semi-Final #2: Final Boss vs. The Agency
Team Slayer at Lockout.

We start with Mackeo who takes out Orge2 right away, then gets a kill on Orge1. Mackeo is trying to get to the middle but can't with Final Boss surrounding him. Mackeo shoots down Walshy and makes him fall, giving him the oppurtunity to get the sniper rifle but gets killed by Orge1, who grabs the sniper rifle. He gets a couple shots on Elamite and snipes down Halogod. The score is tied 7-7 as we jump to Mackeo who takes out Walshy at close range. Mackeo goes up to top blue, throws grenades at Orge1 at the snipe tower and winds up killing Strongside and kills both Orges with one grenade. He waits for Walshy to show up to take him down, and then kills Orge1 again below before being killed by Strongside. Victory X grabs the sniper rifle and snipes Walshy from the library. He goes to another tower and is almost plasma grenaded to death. He gets a double kill on the Orge Twins, bringing the Agency to a 10-kill lead. He misses Strongside with the rifle, goes to the library to get some plasmas, and winds up trading kills with Walshy. Elamite has the sword and misses a swing, so he backs off to recharge his shield. He takes out Orge1 and then Walshy for a double kill. Mackeo has the sniper rifle and uses it to assist Halogod on Orge2. The Agency is winning 29-14, wow. Mackeo snipes Orge1, then kills Strongsides, snipes Orge2, and takes down Walshy for a killing spree. Walshy assassinates Victory X and moves in on Mackeo and takes him down at long distance. Strongside kills Elamite and gets shows on Halogod. Agency still winning 37-24. He beats down Halogod as Walshy kills Victory X. Orge2 is on top BR and gets a double kill on Halogod and Elamite. Orge2 goes to the snipe tower, gets Mackoe up close, takes out Halogod with Strongside as Final Boss starts mounting a comeback. He stops to recharge, takes out Mackeo, fights ElamiteWarrior and dies. We jump to Victory X who gest the 43rd kill on Orge1 with the sword. He beats down Walshy with the sword, and kills Strongside as The Agency is only 3 kills away from winning. Elamite has the sniper rifle and snipes Orge1 at bottom blue. Agency decide to charge through the top and Mackeo gets the final kill on Walshy.

Winner: The Agency, 50-37.

Just when it looked like The Agency was going to pull off a major upset, Final Boss proved just how damn good they were and won the rest of the games to win to take the match. Now, once again, it's time for Carbon and Final Boss to face each other for the Championship.

Championship Match: Carbon vs. Final Boss
Team Slayer at Midship.

We start with Walshy getting the first two kills, reaches the Pink Tower and kills Shockwave from afar. Walshy takes out Ghost and winds up getting killed by Karma. We go to Gandhi as he kills Orge2, gets the sword and uses it to beat down Walshy. He warps up and kills Orge1, then beats down Strongside for the double kill, putting Carbon in the lead. Gandhi gets killed and Orge1 picks up his sword, using it to beat down Karma and sticks Shockwave. Orge2 is making his way to Pink as he kills Karma and Shockwave and locks down the pink tower, killing an incoming Gandhi as well. Orge2 kills Shockwave and Final Boss is in the lead 20-17. Strongside is giving cover fire at Red 2, Gandhi drops in on him but Strongside takes him out. Strongside continues to provide cover fire. He gets double team by Gandhi and Ghost. Ghost gets killed, then Strongside, then Orge2 comes in to take out Gandhi. Orge2 heads to Pink tower with his brother and Orge1 trades kills with Karma. Orge2 heads to Pink 3 and takes out Ghost below him, but Gandhi kills him. We go to Shockwave who assassinates Strongside and moves up to Pink 3, where he meets Walshy and catches him off with a plasma grenade, thus able to kill him with his rifle. He tries to kill Orge2 but Orge2 kills him instead, and now Orge2 chases Karma and kills him. Ghost tries to jump Orge2 but winds up getting killed instead. Orge2 kills Gohst from afar, then goes to Pink 2 but is killed by Shockwave. It's 39-31 Final Boss. Ghost is getting attacked by three players as he dodges grenades and kills Walshy at Pink 2. Walshy tries to get back in but Ghost kills him again. It's 40-34 Final Boss as we go to commercial.

Back from commercial, we join Shockwave as he kills Strongside and then kills Walshy. He pins Strongside from across the amp and Karma moves in for the kill. Karma takes out Orge1 as Carbon has now tied it up at 42-42. Karma is taken down, respawns and takes out Strongside with a grenade and then Orge1 for the double kill. Carbon keeps pushing forward and is now winning 47-45. Karma goes into the blue base, is forced to back off and gets killed by Orge1. Karma respawns and takes out Orge2, gets a double kill on Strongside, tries to get the final kill on Walshy but fails! It's 49-48, Ghost is trying to finish off Orge2, avoids a grenade, moves in for the kill and gets it!

Winner: Carbon, 50-48.

Carbon remained focused for their final game and was able to win it, giving them their first championship tournament of the season. The rivalry continues...

Meanwhile, Karma wins the Boost Mobile MVP award for being the biggest factor for Carbon's victory over Final Boss.

Time now for The Top 3 Plays.
#3: "Naded's 180 Snipe". This guy must really have eyes in the back of his head.
#2: "Victory X's double snipe". Victory X gets a double kill with the sniper rifle on the Orge Twins. Don't see that everyday.
#1: "Gandhi's triple snipe". Wow. All the great moments were about sniping? Sniping is the fun I guess.

Tune in next week when the MLG heads to Chicago.
