The Negative Edge News Report 01.02.08
Posted by Tommy Coloma on 01.02.2008

Welcome to another edition of The Negative Edge. It's a new year and that means it's time to make some resolutions. I came up with a simple one; one that I can actually follow through with - to finish games that I've started. I'm off to a great start as I just finished Portal. It's a short game, but hey - it's something! I'm also close to finishing Persona 3. I already clocked in over 67 hours. Yeah, I'm taking way too long, but it's all good as long as I'm having fun...

The Music Box

This week's selection comes from one of the more popular entries in a long running series of games that dates back to 1987. The song comes on when you're storming a castle. Does it not sound like castle-storming music? It's sad that this game and its sequel are still considered to be the best in the series despite the fact that they are close to twenty years old.

Note: Your ears don't deceive you. This song is brought to you in glorious faux stereo, so grab your headphones and enjoy this classic NES song as it would have sounded if the NES had stereo output.

The News As I See It

Nothing really happened this week. Well... Maybe this - it was revealed that the girl that plays Lana Lang in Smallville will play Chun Li in the new Street Fighter movie. She is a step up from Jessica Biel, but not by much. Smallville's version of Lana Lang is beyond annoying, and because of that, Kristin Kreuk carries an air of annoyance that cannot be easily shaken. Also, you can't tell me that Kreuk has the figure of a fighter. I know - no human can ever look the way Chun Li does in the games and actually look decent. That's impossible. But they should pick someone that at least looks like she can hold her own against other fighters. I'm going to watch the movie anyway because, well, it's Street Fighter, but some day I want a Street Fighter movie that's worth owning on DVD, as opposed to a Street Fighter movie that's only good for a rental. If the casting of Kristin Kreuk is any indication, it looks like this'll be a rental.

The Release List

DokoDemo Asoberu - The Shooting Action (Wii Import)
I was going to write my own rundown of this game, but NCSX already has a priceless description in their sales page - "When describing a 'Simple' series release from D3 Publisher, it's helpful to narrow the overall theme of the game to five words or less. The brevity is to get the point across quickly. In the case of The Shooting Action, our five words would be, 'Poor Man's Senko no Ronde.'" You gotta love them for their honesty. I've never seen a company openly bash a game that they're trying to sell like NCSX. It's awesome! If you like one-vs-one overhead shooters and you don't have a 360, you might want to give this a try. However, if you do have a 360, you should check out Senko no Ronde. It's only $10 at Best Buy last time I checked.

Bubble Bobble (Wii VC)
I have yet to find anyone who does not like Bubble Bobble. I'd rather the TurboGrafx-16 version of Parasol Stars or any version of New Zealand Story, but this is good enough until Taito remembers that Bubble Bobble isn't the only 2D platformer that they have.

And the winner is...

After tallying up the results, I concluded that the winner of the first (and possibly last) Negative Edge year-end contest is natedoggcata. If that's you, PM me so that you can collect your prize.

Now, I thought that this contest was going to be easy, but apparently, some of the references that I used were a little too obscure. I know that some of you wanted to know which games I was referring to, so I put the following list together. I put the names of the ones who got the correct references first in parentheses.

From The Negative Edge

12.26.07

"I just found out that the Seven Lucky Gods have been kidnapped. If I can save them with my talismans and purification rod, I'll be back next week." - The Seven Lucky Gods were kidnapped in Kiki Kaikai. You might remember its sequel, KiKi KaiKai: Nazo no Kuro Manto (aka Pocky & Rocky). (xugreatone)

12.12.07

"Just right now I spotted a button that says 'don't touch.' I'm going to press it anyway. If nothing truly bad happens as a result, I will be back next week." - The "don't touch" button is from Space Quest. And for the record, the first thing I did when I saw that button was to press it. It was so worth it. (xugreatone)

12.05.07

"Some orange creature right next to me keeps yelling "@!#?@!" like there's no tomorrow. If I can figure out what its problem is, I'll be back next week." - Q*bert is the first creature in video game history to be censored in that way. (Repoman0)

11.07.07

"A strange rabbit with a red gem on its forehead is asking me to hide him from the Dark Prince. If I can keep the two apart, I'll be back next week." - This is a reference to Puyo Puyo. The rabbit-looking thing with a gem on its forehead is Carbuncle.

10.31.07

"I was driving along Coconut Beach when my car suddenly flipped over. If I can flip it back and make it to the checkpoint in time, I'll be back next week." - It's weird that racing games these days don't let you flip out as much as the original Outrun. Burnout comes close though. (zach.marcus)

10.24.07

"There's some military woman that's heading toward me while waving a gun and yelling "shake it baby!" If I survive the upcoming attack, I'll be back next week." - Tanya is a well known character in the Red Alert series. (aaronmccool)

10.17.07

"It is pitch black but I feel that a grue is looking at me. If I can keep myself from being eaten, I'll be back next week." - Grues are plentiful in the dark areas in Zork. (zach.marcus)

09.19.07

"Through no fault of my own, I somehow managed to eat a red flower. If I can keep my wits about me, I'll be back next week." The fact that nobody guessed Cave Story makes me sad. Very sad...

09.12.07

"I just got a warning that a huge battleship is approaching fast. If I can figure out how to defeat the giant fish that just appeared, I'll be back next week." - Side-scrolling shooters that feature battleships that look like fish? Hmmm, that would be Darius.

09.06.07

"I just found a chainsaw but for some odd reason I can't find any gas to go with it. If I find some fuel to go with the chainsaw, I'll be back next week." - This is a reference to Maniac Mansion. In this game, you can get yourself a gas chainsaw, but it is useless since there is now way to fill it up. The developers are cruel indeed. (Caleb Newby)

08.30.07

"A letter that I just dipped in some water revealed the numbers 747. If I can figure out what that means, I'll be back next week." - I'm glad I saved the box and all its contents when I bought myself a copy of Star Tropics back in the day. This was before the Internet so I actually did dip that letter in some water. That was one of the most memorable video game experiences I've ever had. (zach.marcus)

08.15.07

"The girl right next to me thinks that Jack Frost called her a 'ho.' If I can keep him from getting killed, I'll be back next week." - This is a reference to any MegaTen game since Jack Frost is in all of them. (aaronmccool)

08.08.07

"I'm taking the Super Ace for a joyride. If I can keep myself from being shot down by the Ayako, I'll be back next week." - The Ayako is an enemy ship that you have to fight in 1942. (zach.marcus)

08.01.07

"DELTA-7 is making my computer do things it isn't supposed to do. If I can shut it down before all hell breaks loose, I'll be back next week." - The Delta-7 is a supercomputer in Varth.

07.27.07

"Some guy named Demitri is standing right next to me muttering something about a 'midnight bliss.' He's creeping me out. If I can get away from him, I'll be back next week." - Demitri and his disturbing midnight bliss move gained notoriety in the Darkstalkers series. (natedoggcata)

07.18.07

"A hollow voice just said 'Plugh.' If I can figure out what that word means, I'll be back next week." - Like xyzzy, plugh is a magical word that you could use in Colossal Cave Adventure. (aaronmccool)

07.13.07

"I'm currently holding a black rod with a rusty star on the end. A cheerful little bird is sitting here singing. If I can capture the bird without dropping the rod, I'll be back next week." - Here's another reference for Colossal Cave Adventure. In the game, it is impossible to get the bird without dropping the rod. I spent way too much time playing this game back in the day... (aaronmccool)

07.04.07

"I'm about to jump in. If I can make it past the Raging Storm of the goose, I'll be back next week." - Fatal Fury's Geese and his Raging Storm are the bane of those who like to jump around a lot in fighting games. (aaronmccool)

06.27.07

"I just took out the some guards, an eagle, and the big boss. If I can keep the princess from killing me with one swift kick to the gut, I'll be back next week." - Karateka and the final kick of doom... If only games these days can surprise me as much as that sequence did back in the 80s. (natedoggcata)

06.20.07

"I have my magic ball and saber. If they help me to get through my little big adventure, I'll be back next week." - Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure is a pretty under-appreaciated game. It's too bad, since a lot of the gameplay elements it used were pretty advanced for its time. Oh, and the soundtrack is pretty good as well. (natedoggcata)

06.13.07

"I just need to wait until they're all in Death Blossom range before I press the switch. If the weapon of last resort is successful, I'll be back next week." - C'mon! Death Blossom Range? Weapon of last resort? I can't believe that nobody remembers The Last Starfighter.

06.06.07

"Nothing I'm doing seems to work but I heard that if all else fails, I should use fire. If that advice is helpful, I'll be back next week." The person that gave this advice in Zelda II is a really horrible person. In the game, fire DOES NOT solve all of your problems. (natedoggcata)

05.23.07

"I am currently surrounded by a bunch of cute penguins that say 'dood' a lot. If I can keep them from exploding, I'll be back next week." - Can the Prinnies in Disgaea fly? (natedoggcata)

05.16.07

"My friend Rocky is looking for his boots. If I can find them, I'll be back next week." - If you want to see how computers work, you should check out Rocky's Boots for the Apple ][. It's both fun and educational at the same time! (natedoggcata)

05.09.07

"Despite the fact that I keep swinging my wooden sword threateningly, the people in this town always say the same things whenever I talk to them. If I can find and trigger the events that are necessary to cause them to say something else, I'll be back next week." - This is another reference to Zelda II. Can you tell that I really like this game? (aaronmccool)

05.02.07

"My friend is trying to find his pet rabbit Daisy. If I can find her, I'll be back next week." - Sadly, the marine from Doom will never find his pet rabbit... alive. (natedoggcata)

04.25.07

"That's it. It's over. I've already fortified my defenses. If I can survive the Zerg rush, I'll be back next week." - Zerg Rush. StarCraft. Instant defeat. (natedoggcata)

04.11.07

"A goose named Gertrude just appeared out of nowhere. If I can find out what her secret is, I'll be back next week." - Gertrude's Secrets is another game made by The Learning Company. I love how a game that features you as a little box can be so entertaining. (natedoggcata)

04.04.07

"I see a button that says 'do not press.' If I have enough willpower to listen to that warning, I'll be back next week." - Space Quest is the game with the button that you aren't supposed to press. If that game has taught me one thing, it's that if you write "do not press" on a button in a game, nine out of ten people will press it.

03.21.07

"Are men miserable piles of secrets? If I find the answer to that eternal question, I'll be back next week." - If you were to look up bad voice-acting in the dictionary, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night would be part of the definition.

03.14.07

"LP LP Forward LK HP. If I can do that move without telegraphing it, I'll be back next week." - This is the move that Akuma made famous in the Street Fighter Alpha series.

03.07.07

"I'm about to enter a Chronosphere. If I don't materialize in the past, I'll be back next week." - The Chronosphere and an MCV - the combination that made Red Alert truly wonderful.

02.28.07

"Next week I WILL get this column in on time. How do I know? An enemy dropped a stopwatch after I killed it. I intend to use it." - I've played several games where a stopwatch is dropped after a kill, but the game that I was specifically referencing was Castlevania. (aaronmccool)

01.03.07

"Some girl named Athena asked me to find her Psycho Armor and Psycho Shield. If I can find them, I'll be back next week." - The game that I was thinking about was Crystalis for the NES. Psycho Armor is the strongest armor in the game and Psycho Shield is the strongest shield. Of course, everyone's favorite schoolgirl Athena makes an appearance as well.

12.27.06

"I just received a message from Dr. Light. If I agree with his message I'll be back next year." - Messages from Dr. Light were sent out in Mega Man 2.

12.20.06

"I'm going to find out if love can bloom on a battlefield. If I find the answer to that eternal question, I'll be back next week." - You can find out whether or not love can bloom on the battlefield by asking Snake himself in Metal Gear Solid. (natedoggcata)

12.13.06

"My pet frog Fred just jumped down a mysterious hole. If I can find him, I'll be back next week." - The game is Blaster Master, one of the best NES games ever. (natedoggcata)

11.30.06

"I used a magic word and found myself in a place that is pitch dark. If I can keep myself from falling into a pit, I'll be back next week." - In Colossal Cave Adventure, you really can fall into a pit if it is pitch dark, even in rooms where pits don't currently exist. (aaronmccool)

11.23.06

"Someone recently appeared out of nowhere and told me to 'look to la luna.' If I can figure out what he's talking about, I'll be back next week." - I only saw Reptile appear once in the arcade version of Mortal Kombat. That one instance was pretty sweet though! (natedoggcata)

11.15.06

"I'm looking for the master of unlocking. If I can finder her, I'll be back next week." - The "master of unlocking" is, of course, Jill Valentine, one of the stars of Resident Evil. The game, not the movie, unfortunately. (natedoggcata)

11.08.06

"Someone told me after a fight that I must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance. If I can find and defeat him, I'll be back next week." Go through the game with all perfects, defeat Bison by countout 10 times, and you too can fight Sheng Long in Street Fighter II. The days when I still believed in magic - I miss them...

11.01.06

"I'm gonna fry me a Dopefish. If I survive, you can bet that I'll be back next week." - While the Dopefish can be found as an Easter egg in a lot of games, he made his first appearance in Commander Keen 4. Side note - I still use the Fish Polka song as my ringtone. It's badass! (natedoggcata)

10.25.06

"I'm waiting for my chance to ride on a Chocobo right now. If I can escape from that obviously evil guy with a big sword, I will be back again next week." - Chocobo. Evil guy with big sword. I was going for Final Fantasy VII, but I'm sure that other FF games fit as well.

10.19.06

"It's time for me to save Slumberland from the Prince of Nightmares. If I ever wake up, I'll be back again next week." This is a reference to Little Nemo: The Dream Master. (natedoggcata)

10.12.06

"Its time for me to take on a walrus with a cute yellow kiwi. If my arrows of death prevail, I will be back again next week!" - Move over Grand Theft Auto! The New Zealand Story (aka Kiwi Kraze) was the first game that allowed players to steal vehicles! (natedoggcata)

10.04.06

"It's time for me to dodge a few walls in that one level in Battletoads that everyone has nightmares about. Should I make it to the end, I will be back again next week." - I can beat the bike level in Battletoads when I'm alone, but in co-op? What a nightmare! (natedoggcata)

09.29.06

"It's time for me to see if I can still dodge the Quickman stage's beams of death in Mega Man 2. Should I survive, I will be back again next week." - Mega Man 2... I wasn't even trying at this point. (natedoggcata)

From Fact or Fiction

12.24.07

"It's been rumored that Cruise Elroy likes to read this column whenever he's regenerating. Common interests can often turn foes into friends, so, if you want to improve your chances of escaping from that maze, don't forget to come back next week for more Fact or Fiction!" - Cruise Elroy is the name of the red ghost in Pac-Man once it starts to speed up in the later levels. Before that, it's name is simply Blinky. (xugreatone)

12.18.07

"I heard that the clouds are more likely to release bells for those who read this column on a regular basis. So, if you don't want your fight for justice to end badly, make sure that you come back next week for another edition of Fact or Fiction!" - You can shoot bells out of the clouds in Stinger, one of the best two-player games on the NES. Of course, fans should know that the real name for the game is Moero! Twinbee. This series needs to make an appearance in at least one download service with co-op support. (xugreatone)

12.03.07

"Because wisdom is necessary for one to launch from the Sword of Acala, returning to a column that bestows knowledge is always in your best interest. So, if you want to guarantee your victory over the mysterious stone, make sure that you check back next time for more fact or fiction!" - The Sword of Acala is a transportation device in Ikaruga. (aaronmccool)

11.20.07

"It is said that one's ability to negotiate with demons is directly affected by the number of editions of Fact or Fiction that he or she has read through. Why risk making the demon angry or fearful? If you want to keep it interested and happy, make sure that you join us next week for more Fact or Fiction!" - I had Persona 2 in mind while writing this one.

11.02.07

"It is a well known fact that guru's often find material to meditate about by reading this column. So, if you ever want to impress the one in the castle enough for him to tell you where the Dragon Slayer is, don't forget to check back next week (and every week after that) for more Fact or Fiction!" - This was a reference to Faxanadu.

10.23.07

"Studies have shown that visiting other columns helps to fund criminal organizations like the one that's led by a certain 'general' who has a penchant for fighting tournaments. Do your part to make the world a better place - come back to new editions of this crime free column regularly!" C'mon. General. Fighting Tournament. Street Fighter II. (aaronmccool)

10.16.07

"The Creator just informed me that the Stone-Like views inconsistent behavior as a sign that things must start over. If you don't want it to proceed with it's mission, make sure that you come back next week for more Fact or Fiction!" - This is a reference to Radiant Silvergun. (aaronmccool)

10.05.07

"It's been said that Princess Mariko looks down on those who fail to visit her favorite column. So, if you don't want a swift boot to the gut, make sure that you come back next week for more Fact or Fiction!" - Princess Mariko is the princess that you're supposed to save in Karateka. Even though it came out in 1984, this game still has the most surprising bad ending I have ever seen. (natedoggcata)

10.01.07

"It is rumored that returning for more helps to improve your wrench swing. That's great, since you never know when you might be forced to use the mighty wrench as your primary weapon." - This was a reference to System Shock 2. In that game, the wrench became the weapon of choice for many gamers, mostly because ammo was hard to come by. It isn't surprising that BioShock features a wrench as one of your weapons, seeing as how it is the spiritual successor to the System Shock series.

09.18.07

"Some warriors that I met a few days ago explained to me that deserters cannot use ABBA while they're walking along Victory Road. With the future of mankind at stake, it would be foolish to not come back." - This is a reference to Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road. ABBA made the game way too easy, but it was fun using it in two-player games. (aaronmccool)

09.11.07

"There's been some talk about the Mana Tree dying when not enough people care to check back. I hope that the rumor isn't true, but if it is, do you really want to live with the guilt?" - The Mana Tree was first used in Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden. Most people will remember its sequel, Secret of Mana.

09.04.07

"I have been told that warriors who venture back have a better chance of defeating the master of the Black Orb. With the fate of the world at stake, can you afford to miss a week?" - This was a reference Capcom's old quarter muncher, Magic Sword.

08.28.07

"I suggest that you do come back, for it is said that doing so helps to keep Crazy Otto from thinking that you are food when he's in the mood for a snack." - Crazy Otto was a bootleg version of Pac-Man. He was later bought out and turned into Ms. Pac-Man. (natedoggcata)

08.17.07

"It is almost an undeniable truth that those who make the effort to check back later will not have to worry about being attacked by Mr. Nutz whenever they walk through a forest." - Mr. Nutz is one of the worst video game names ever. It doesn't help that the first level is called "Woody Land." (natedoggcata)

08.13.07

"Rumor has it that those who remember to check back are twice as likely to leave a game of MIDI Maze with a smile on their faces." This was a reference to MIDI Maze, which eventually spawned the GB and SNES hit, Faceball 2000. (natedoggcata)

08.03.07

"If you forget, it is very likely that the next yashichi you pick up will not give you the boost you need." - The yashichi is a power-up found in a lot of Capcom's games. It looks like a pinwheel with an orange circle in the back. It was first used in a game called Vulgus.

07.30.07

"Join us next time for more Fact or Fiction, or prepare yourself for a visit from the life form from Sector 7231952E." - I looked "Sector 7231952E" up on Google and the column that I used it in came up first. That's both sad and cool at the same time. I think that Wurm has its moments. That purple dinosaur in the title screen looked cool... (natedoggcata)

07.23.07

"Join us next Friday for more Fact or Fiction, or prepare to get chased by the Bungeling Empire." - Bungelings were first used in Raid on Bungeling Bay, which was also the first game designed by Will Wright. (natedoggcata)

07.17.07

"Join us again next Friday or every time you type xyzzy, nothing happens." xyzzy is a secret word that was first used in Colossal Cave Adventure. The "nothing happens" bit came from Zork. In that game, when you type in xyzzy, nothing happens. I guess the developers knew that any gamer who has played Advent would try using xyzzy at least once.

07.06.07

"Join us next Friday for more Fact or Fiction and maybe, just maybe, you'll receive the letter that allows you to purchase potions from the old lady!" - This is a reference to The Legend of Zelda. (natedoggcata)

06.29.07

"Rumor has it that those who hesitate are likely to get bounced by Evil Otto." - Evil Otto, the "smiley-faced ball of death," is from Berzerk. (natedoggcata)

06.22.07

"Don't forget to come back next Friday for more Fact or Fiction! A taxi ride to Kemo city is in store for those of you who decide to skip out." - The PC game, Quarantine, takes place in Kemo City. (natedoggcata)

06.15.07

"Rumor has it that those who miss a week are 255% more likely to be eaten by the Sinistar than those who return." - Of course I'm talking about Sinistar. I included 255 in there as a reference to a bug in the game that allows you to get 255 lives. (natedoggcata)

05.25.07

"Be careful, for it is rumored that those who forget will eventually find themselves trapped in a dream world by a bunch of dolls." - In Mendel Palace, a girl named Candy is trapped in a dream world by her dolls.

05.18.07

"Make sure that you check us out again next week, or prepare to be chased down by the Ultimate Being!" - You have to face the Ultimate Being in Parasite Eve. (natedoggcata)

05.10.07

"Those of you who profess the belief that skipping out is ok will receive the standard substandard training, which will result in your eventual elimination." - "Standard substandard training" is given out in Tron. I'm not sure if the game mentions it, but I do know that someone talks about it in the movie. (natedoggcata)

05.01.07

"It's just a rumor, but I heard that missing a week is just as painful as being cooked by a rampant robo rat." - The rampant robo rat is from Battletoads. (aaronmccool)

04.24.07

"Statistics show that if you forget, you are more likely to be eaten by a grue." - Grues started eating people in the dark in Zork. (aaronmccool)

04.17.07

"I don't mean to sound cold, but if you forget, I'll have to send Black Frost your way." Black Frost is a Jack Frost whose quest for power turned him dark and wicked. He first made his appearance in Nocturne.

04.10.07

"Forget and I'll have Salazar prepare a special ritual for you too!" - Salazar is one of the bad guys in Resident Evil 4. (natedoggcata)

03.30.07

"If you forget get ready for me to give you some punch to drink." - Soda Popinski says this in Punch Out. Soda was originally named Vodka Drunkenski, but I guess Nintendo didn't want children to turn into alcoholics after playing this game. (aaronmccool)

03.13.07

"Check back again next week or be prepared to be charmed by my magic punches!" - Great Tiger talked about his "magic punches" in Punch Out. (natedoggcata)

02.23.07

"If you forget, expect a message from Dr. Light. This time it won't be good news." - The message sequences were some of the most annoying aspects of Mega Man 2, especially since you couldn't skip them.

02.16.07

"Just follow my lead. You wouldn't want me to call out the Rhythm Rogues, would you?" - The Rhythm Rogues were in Space Channel 5, Part 2.

02.09.07

"If you forget I'll have to send Sinistar your way. I don't think that you'll be able to run fast enough to escape." - This was easy enough. I once met someone who swore that a Sinistar machine that he used to play on was possessed. If I ever see him again I'll buy him an arcade compilation that has the game in it. (natedoggcata)

01.30.07

"Don't forget to join us next time for more Fact or Fiction or risk getting a visit from the Brown Sugar Pirates." - The Brown Sugar Pirates are your enemies in the Wario Land games. (natedoggcata)

01.21.07

"Don't forget to check back next week or I'll have to send Mid-Boss your way." - Mid-Boss is from Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. (aaronmccool)

"We'll be back next week with more Fact or Fiction! Expect a Zerg Rush if you forget to check it out." - The all-powerful Zerg Rush will own you in StarCraft. (natedoggcata)

01.09.07

"Don't forget to check back again next week or I'll send Special Agent Tanya Adams after you." - Tanya is the badass special ops commando from the Red Alert series.

12.29.06

"Rumor has it that the Malice Four will do everything in their power to keep you from fulfilling that mission. You won't let them stop you, will you?" - The Malice Four is the name given to some of Jaquio's henchmen in Ninja Gaiden for the NES. (natedoggcata)

12.26.06

"Don't forget to join us next time or I might accidentally mention your name while talking to Elmo Pug." - Elmo Pug is the owner of ScumSoft Inc. in Space Quest 3.

12.07.06

"Don't think that you can get away with forgetting. Eyes of Gannon are everywhere." - This is from my favorite Zelda game - Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Nobody got this one right, which makes me very very sad...

11.27.06

"Don't forget to check back next week for more Fact or Fiction fun or risk me making that special call to the aardwolf." - In the first Wolfenstein game there was a sign in one of the mazes that said "Call Apogee and say Aardwolf." Legend has it that to this day, Apogee still gets calls asking about this. (natedoggcata)

11.22.06

"A final score of 3 for 6. Remember to join us this Friday for more Fact or Fiction. If you forget, I'll flip you over on your back and attack your weak point for massive damage!" - Genjii 2 of course! This was too easy, and I feel like a tool for using it, but hey! I was running out of time. (natedoggcata)

11.13.06

"Don't forget to join us again next Friday for more Fact or Fiction! What's that? You didn't understand what I said? I'd bet your neck you did." - In Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Sam Fisher convinces a terrorist that he does in fact speak English with the awesome line - "I'd bet your neck you do." (aaronmccool)

11.07.06

"Don't forget to come back this Friday or I'll have the General bury you in a lunchbox!" - This was a reference to Rise of the Triad. General Darian says "they'll bury you in a lunchbox" during his fight with you. I wonder if they'll give you shrooms before stuffing you inside the lunchbox.

10.31.06

"You aren't invincible so make sure that you check back next week or I'll make you dine on turtle soup. You've been warned!" - In TMNT: The Arcade Game, Krang yells out "I'm Invincible" during your fight with him and Shredder says that he'll "dine on turtle soup."

10.25.06

"Don't forget to check us out next week or I'll sic Abobo on you!" - Abobo was one of the enemies in Double Dragon. (natedoggcata)

10.17.06

"Make sure you come back next week or I'll hire 'The Generic Dudes' to come after you!" - This was one of the gangs found in River City Ransom for the NES. (natedoggcata)

10.02.06

"I heard that every time someone misses a week, a rubber duck goes missing. Save the rubber ducks!" - This was a horrible way to start. I believe that I had an E3 PS3 demo in mind when I came up with this. It looks like that game was eventually called Super Rub a Dub.

To Be Continued...

That's it for this week. I was given a list of ingredients. Some of those ingredients include: "Two cups rhubarb, sliced. Two slash three cups granulated rhubarb. One tablespoon all-purpose rhubarb. One teaspoon grated orange rhubarb. Three tablespoons rhubarb, on fire. One large rhubarb. One cross borehole electro-magnetic imaging rhubarb. Two tablespoons rhubarb juice." If the cake I make using these ingredients does not kill me, I'll be back next week.

I actually think Kreuk is a good choice. Chun-Li is supposed to be semi-American anyway. Kreuk is a decent actor and can look really hot when dressed right.

Granted there are tons of Asians who would probably fill the part better, but this is a teen movie and Kreuk appeals to that audience.

I second the support for a version of New Zealand Story to be released. That was the game that defined my childhood and made me a fan of platform shooters for life. I actually think it was the first game I completed as well.

There is a Street Figher movie worth owning on DVD, the Animated Movie.

I meant live-action. I actually have the Street Fighter II animated movie as well as the Street Fighter Alpha one. They're both ok, though if I had to pick one over the other, I'd go with Street Fighter II...
