B3yond the Report 04.29.08
Posted by Mark Salmela on 04.29.2008

Hey, Grand Theft Auto IV comes out today. I could make some joke like "hey this little game called GTA4 comes out today" but that would be too easy. Besides, you've probably come to expect easy jokes like that. So today, I'm going for harder comedy. And by hard comedy I mean jokes about the buttocks. So get ready, it's going to be an interesting column *hey I had to try something to get people to stop playing GTA4 and read this column*, so let's get to what gives me that special feeling… in my pants *HEY-OH*!

God I've reached a new low…

I'll be fired by tomorrow, but B3yond the News of the Week will still be here~!

Grand Theft Auto 4 is out now

I don't think there are 3 words in the video game industry that stir up as much controversy as "Grand Theft Auto" does. When you think of blockbuster titles, GTA has to be near the top of the list. Rockstar has done a terrific job keeping this game under wraps, as until recently very few people had even played the game. There wasn't even gameplay footage released to the public until just last week, which is amazing given today's standard. I'm also glad that we haven't been seeing gameplay footage, as to be honest I want the game to be as much a surprise as possible when I get it today. There's so much in this $60 title that I can't imagine anyone over the age of 17 passing this one up. I've had several friends who've previously hated GTA who now can't wait to get their hands on it after reading the reviews. Between all of the incredible multiplayer modes as well as the insane single player, this game is going to rock. Rockstar has done a terrific job with GTA4, and given ratings like IGN's 10/10 there is no doubt in my mind that this game will be awesome. For anyone who hasn't heard the PS3 and the 360 versions run pretty much the same, with some people even saying the PS3 version runs a little better. I personally am getting the 360 version, as that's what all my friends are getting. Not to mention if the exclusive downloadable content turns out to be good I would consider buying it *as long as they don't charge too much for it*. This is a title you guys can't afford to miss, be sure to pick up GTAIV today.

One of the best video games ever.

Metal Gear Online Beta goes Live

Well after being delayed for 5 days the highly anticipated Metal Gear Online Beta is now playable on the PS3. To take part in the Beta you have to put down a $5 preorder for MGS4 and get one of the Metal Gear Saga 2.0 DVD's. In the Metal Gear Saga DVD will be a download code for MGO Beta. After downloading the Beta as well as two patches and a Konami ID you're ready to create your character and hop into an online match. The create-a-character system is relatively simple and bare, but it does get the job done. I am going to assume that the full MGO *which comes as part of MGS4 on June 12* will have more customization options. Once you get your character created you can choose between Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Frog *Flag*, and Territories. All of these modes can be played on the two maps included in the Beta, both of which I really like. Both maps are large in size, include multiple tiers, have open ended and closed quarters, and take place in the Middle Eastern war setting we've been seeing for MGS4 and MGO. I personally prefer the Capture the Frog and Territories modes, since I've always been a man who prefers team objective based multiplayer instead of straight deathmatch. The game plays a lot like you'd expect a Meta Gear multiplayer mode to.

While I've seen a few people complain that they don't like Metal Gear Online, I am a big fan of it and can't wait for the full game when it ships on June 12th. I only have a couple of complaints about Metal Gear Online, like the close quarters combat, since you pretty much get destroyed if you try and fight someone without a gun. The only other complains I have about the game is the slowness of your character, which should be fixed as your character levels up, and the target system, which can sometimes be questionable as to whether or not you're really getting a head shot or not. Otherwise I love the game and it plays in true Metal Gear fashion. By the way the Beta runs until May 9th if I'm correct.

Edit: Konami just updated the Metal Gear Online Beta. There's a new Sneak mode where one player gains control of Snake. The mode is basically red team vs blue team vs Snake with Snake having the Octocamo as well as advanced CQC moves. The new mode is pretty fun, and although actually winning as Snake is near impossible it is fun to play as Snake. There is also a new map, called Midtown Maelstrom. It's another level in the Middle East that looks a lot like the level that the Beauty and the Beast trailer took place on. There's a lot of narrow alleyways separating a main street. There are also select buildings and rooftops players can go in. That's 3 solid maps and multiple solid gameplay modes, MGO is going to rock.

PlayStation Store update for the week of April 24

This week saw a pretty solid addition to the PlayStation Store. This week we saw the COD4 maps packs for the PS3 finally go up, as well as a couple of new games. First is R-Types, a collection of R-Type and R-Type 2 for the PS1 put together as one downloadable title for $6. The R-Type games are a lot like Raiden and Ikaruga tilted on its side. The games are fun, but honestly they're near impossible. This is coming from a guy who can beat Ikaruga no problem. I can't even beat the second level of either of the R-Types. Anyways, we also saw a demo for the highly anticipated Echochrome, which believe me is incredible. I can't even begin to explain all of the crazy things you so in that game. If I was a stoner, I would literally just sit and watch the demo of Echochrome all day. That game blows my mind with how awesome it is. When they saw you can anything as long as the perspective view is right, they're not kidding. I have yet to see one person who hasn't been totally blown away by this puzzle game, and I can't wait until it's released in the middle of May. For $10 this might be the best PSN title easily.

In addition we also saw a demo for Iron Man *I thought it sucked*, as well as Rock Band content, Guitar Hero content, Army of Two content, and a bunch of videos. But like I said the two best things on the PSN this week is R-Types and Echochrome. You definitely need to at least download the free Echochrome demo.

This game blows my mind.

Are you a target of terror?

I know this isn't Sony related news since this game came out on the Wii, but this is seriously one of the best games I've ever played. Target Terror is an old school rail shooter light gun game that just came out on the Wii for $40 and it's published by Konami. Basically I don't even know where to begin. Blowing up a hooker with an RPG 5 feet away from me while she screams bloody murder is perhaps the greatest thing I've ever done in a video game. I'm not joking, this game NEVER GETS OLD. The developers knew when they made mini-games where you dunk women into pools of acid that this game was going to kick ass. There's really no major plot, as an anchor woman basically comes on and says "The Airport's been hijacked, let's watch" and then you just start kicking ass. From ninjas, to drug dealers, to steroid abusers, to hookers, this game has it all. You can torch people alive, electrocute their private areas, blow off their head with an RPG, freeze people where they stand, or just rack up 30 hit combos on one guy. Seriously, you can just sit and waste one guy with a 30 round clip of your machine gun until his head blows clean off. Hell, one of the mini games has you launching golf balls packed with explosives at terrorists riding a golf cart ghetto style while wearing a polo. And if that wasn't enough to blow your mind, they even start pulling wheelies. God bless America.

If you've ever wanted to fight terrorism, this game is for you. From killing everything that moves at the golden gate bridge, to blowing the crap out of guys using a stall, this game has everything. My friends and I have already spent almost 10 hours just wasting hookers, and there's nothing else we'd have rather been doing. I'm dead serious, buy a Wii, buy a second Wiimote, and buy Target Terror. You will have the greatest party ever thrown. Period.

They knew this game would kick ass when they made it.

B3yond the tabloids!

The PlayStation video service will be going live this summer according to a news report by the LA times. The PlayStation video service will be Sony's competition to the Xbox Live Marketplace video service. Personally I would rather buy or rent disc movies *especially Blu-Ray movies*, but downloadable movie services are quickly becoming the norm so it's good to see the PS3 will be giving XBL a run for its money. Look for more news around E3.

After a slight delay, SingStar for the PS3 will be launching in the US on May 20. The game promises to have a ton of downloadable content through the SingStore, which is the in-game music store through which you can download additional tracks.

EA will be adding a Conquest mode as free downloadable content to Battlefield Bad Company when the game launches in June. The Conquest mode will basically be Capture the Flag Battlefield style.

Midnight Club: Los Angeles will be released on September 9th in the US and on September 12th in Europe for the PS3 and 360. Midnight Club is Rockstar's version of Need for Speed, and it'll be interesting to see how this game does since it'll be fresh off of GTA4. A PSP version will also be released on September 9th.

Interplay Entertainment has announced that Earthworm Jim 4 is in development. I loved the original Earthworm Jim's, so let's hope they can recapture some of that magic.

PS3 users better have their condiments ready, as it looks as if they'll be making more sandwiches while they wait for the 5 minute mandatory install on the PS3 version of GTA4. I guess 5 minutes is better than the 20 minutes Devil May Cry 4 took.

With the ever growing popularity of HDTV's, it was only a matter of time before some of our favorite games got remade in HD. While Capcom and other companies are remaking games like Street Fighter 2 in HD themselves, leave it to the homebrew community to pick up the first video game I've ever played. Several homebrew developers over at Racketboy have started a project to remake Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in HD. I am very excited about this project and recommend all of my readers to offer their support for this project. The team is looking for all the help they can get, look for more information here. Here's hoping we'll see this game ported to the PSN or something cool in the future, here's a picture of some of the new sprites.

B3yond the Cinema!

Here's a video of a really cool mod in Unreal Tournament 3. It's 2-D Super Mario Bros in UT3. Here's the link to download. PS3 users will need to install the Unreal Tournament 2D mod to play it, which can be downloaded here.

Here's some footage of GTA4 for everyone, just in case you haven't been convinced yet to buy this game.

Here's a video explaining the multiplayer modes of the upcoming title Haze on the PS3.

Finally, here's some footage of the Metal Gear Online Beta. I still think MGO is a solid multiplayer title.

The One Man Water Cooler~!

I wrote a little article back on October 9th talking about how the DelayStation 3 can't win the console wars. In that article I specifically said that Sony can't delay their games any further or no one will care. Well with the recent announcement that Home for the PS3 has been delayed AGAIN I can't take it anymore. I've gone on record saying I love all 3 of my next generation consoles but right now I'm fed up with Sony and their lies. They released the PlayStation 3 prematurely and they've been paying for it ever since. We've had all of these promises about features like cross-media-bar but they never fucking do it. I'm sick of waiting around for Sony to get into the console wars and neither should you guys. I don't care about Home anymore and have no plans to actually use it. You probably won't find me talking a whole lot about it anymore after today.

Sony first announced PlayStation Home back at the Game Developers Conference 2007 as part of their "Game 3.0" presentation. They promised a virtual world where users could come together and interact with one another in one big happy community. They promised that Home would launch in October 2007 with a possible Beta running that summer. Well months passed by and we hadn't heard a whole lot on the game, then when it came time for Home to launch Sony dragged their feet on and on before announcing it was going to be delayed. Sure the closed Beta *which I have no idea how many people are actually in* has been running for a little while but Sony has been delaying it over and over again since then. First Home was going to be released in fall 2007, then Christmas 2007, then early 2008, then March 2008, then summer 2008, and now they're claiming that the open Beta will launch in fall 2008. The fucking open Beta for Home will be launching in fall 2008. That's fucking great Sony. I'm so glad I'll finally get to take part in your open Beta this fall. You can count on me being the first fucker in line for that.

Some people will say I have no right to complain, as Home won't cost PS3 users anything. Well let me fill you in, the Sony PlayStation 3 isn't fucking free and I have a right as a consumer to express my opinions about a product I purchased. I bought a PlayStation 3 and have loved it from day 1. I still love my PS3 but this is bullshit. Neither Microsoft nor Nintendo have these long term delays for their products *Zelda Twilight Princess got delayed but that was on purpose as they waited for the Wii* but for whatever reason Sony is constantly delaying their products and I'm sick of it. I was excited for Home, I told my friends how it would crush what Microsoft offered with Xbox Live, and I even said it would be one of the turning points in the console wars that could bring Sony back into the console wars. But now, I could care less about Home. I hate the Sims and I have no interest in Home. Why would I want to go to someone's apartment? No offense to anyone but I am not alone in saying I don't really care what color your walls are, nor do I care if you just got a new couch *unless it has a picture of Kaz Harai that I can sit on*. Home has been delayed for over a year now, and unless it cures cancer I won't care when it eventually does come out.

The big problem is that Sony can't keep their big mouths shut. When Nintendo or Microsoft announce something it usually means that it'll be coming in the near future. When Sony announces something that means "Hey, we thought of a really cool idea, maybe you'll see it before your children die". Killzone 2 was announced in May 2005 and look how that turned out? Hell good luck with Final Fantasy 13, I'm not expecting that game anytime within the next year. Gran Turismo on the PSP? Forget about it. Sony has a terrible habit of announcing things so far in advance and trying to hype it for so long that eventually people just stop caring. They've practically killed the momentum they built up for Killzone 2, and they're coming dangerously close to killing the momentum they built for Little Big Planet. If Sony isn't careful they'll kill all hope I had for the PS3 coming back, as I know I'm not the only one who's fed up with all of these PlayStation 3 delays. Sony, you've officially killed any hope I had for Home. I simply don't care about your virtual reality, and I'm not going to wait around for you anymore.

B3yond the Mail

Well I've said before that I recommend my readers leave me feedback, whether it be questions and or comments. I already answer basically every email I get personally but before I was only answering comments with another comment in the column. Since people may not see it I've decided I'm going to add in a new section where I can answer fan questions or give my response to reader comments from the previous week. I can't promise I'll do it every week *depends on whether or not I get reader response* but for at least now I'm going to add in a new section where I can personally address reader comments *maybe it'll boost the number of comments*.

To Nate: When I was talking about the 360 possibly having a motion controller I specifically said I don't believe Sony would make a motion controller. If Sony made a motion controller I'd apply the same logic to them, but since they already have SIXAXIS I don't think they'd bother making a full motion controller.

To Brent: You're right, you do see blood in the Mortal Kombat vs. DC trailer, I was wrong. Since I made that comment Midway has also gone on record saying blood will be in the game, but that it will be in short supply. This also doesn't stop me from thinking they're going to neuter Mortal Kombat.

To Toddo: To be honest I have no idea on the status of the Team Fortress 2 characters videos or whether or not they'll be up for download on places like XBLA. I like the videos *nice to have a multiplayer game with personality* and know that they'll be releasing character videos for all 9 classes but YouTube and gametrailers are the only places I know that they pop up on.

To Rod Oracheski: I may be wrong but from what I hear Sony has done some work on improving their servers in addition to working on the PlayStation Store. I don't claim to know every technical detail on the PlayStation Store but I specifically made sure to point out that download speeds were faster for me and not claim faster for everyone. So whether or not everyone experiences increased download speeds is out of my knowledge I'm just speaking on personal experience.

To Ramsey: Would Mortal Kombat ripping off the Marvel vs. Capcom idea be a bad thing? Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is one of the best fighters ever so ripping off that idea probably sounded like a positive to Midway.

To Daniel: Love the "Sega does what NintenDON'T" reference. By the way the Joker does rule us all. He's one of the only DC characters I like.

To WadeMcG: I have to disagree as I think Mortal Kombat 2 has aged very well. In fact it's still my favorite Mortal Kombat to go back and play to this day *though the friend I usually battle in MK demands that we play MK Trilogy instead*.

To David R: I will sympathize with you that getting into a Beta isn't the most important thing in the world. And with all of the headaches I went through to get my MGO Beta up and running *signing up for a Konami ID*, I honestly would have almost preferred to have not been in the Beta at all. Metal Gear Solid 4 will still be awesome; you don't need to try a multiplayer Beta to tell you that.

To everyone who argued about console sales numbers: There is no official sales number chart, so there's no use arguing over who's right. By the way nexgenwars is a joke and is one of the worst sites to get your information from, which is what everyone appeared to be quoting *that and Wikipedia, which isn't a source*. Unless the information comes from the companies directly *Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony* the numbers are wrong. Even the NPD's are inaccurate as they don't include sales from every location. If I had to guess I'd say the PS3 is closer to 12 million sold while 360 is at about 19.5 million sold. If Microsoft had sold 20 million they probably would have released a press statement by now bragging about it *like they did when they reached 10 and 15 million*. The Wii I can't tell you as I've heard numbers anywhere between 20 million and 25 million which is too wide a margin. Edit: Microsoft just released a statement about 360 sales. The way they worded it was very shady but it appears as if they reached 19 million sold around the end of 2007 *especially since Microsoft ends its quarters very late, most companies do*, meaning they're probably going to break 20 million anytime now.

As I said before I always read what you guys send me and I appreciate the comments, even if they're sometimes filled with hate. If you wanted a response to your comment and I didn't respond I apologize.

The 411mania Empire~!

The Full Circle by Joe Roche, who admits Jack Thompson is his hero. Why else would he go to law school?
Nintendophiles by Theo Fraser. $90 for WiiFit? I'd rather buy Target Terror twice, maybe even three times. As a matter of fact I think I will.
The PC Centric Extravaganza by Chris Evans, who talks about the possibility of Gran Turismo coming to the PC one day. Well considering how well the PSP port is going and the fact that I think Sony owns the Gran Turismo license I don't think we'll be seeing a PC version anytime soon.

Signing Off!

Well I hope you all stopped playing GTA4 just long enough to enjoy this column. I won't delay your gratification any longer; you can all go back to playing GTA4 now. As a matter of fact by the time this column goes live I'll be at the midnight launch of GTA4 and will be playing it all night long. I definitely need to kill shit in GTA, as most of my past week was spent writing a big research paper for my psychology class. Fuck Walden Two. The end. I'll be back in 7, and should be in Fact or Fiction one of these weeks. I also just got Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, so I'll also be playing more of GT5 Prologue and getting a review up in the near future. Happy killing sprees everyone, I'll see you in beautiful Liberty City!

Is this a PS3 column?...

Posted By: Chungles (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 11:57 PM

first i would like to agree with the Home argument...pretty ridiculous and i dont even care anymore. second, i am pretty sure MGO ends on the 11th. speaking of which, i LOVE MGO, it is incredible, graphics are beautiful, i HATE shoot em ups and i have played at least six hours on this already...keep up the work, i like your column a lot

Posted By: Brad (Guest)  on April 29, 2008 at 02:17 AM

Love it, I got GTA IV on the PS3 and 360, Yes the loading time is quicker on the ps3 for installing first data and loading (but not by a huge amount). Will be playing on the ps3 mostly though as its linked up to my D Projector!

Have fun everyone!

Am I the only one not getting GTA 4? I really liked 3, but Vice City just didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll get it later on if I keep hearing how great it is. It should be doing some pretty sick sales numbers right now though, and I love how good that is for the game industry.

MGO beta is tons of fun too. I wasn't a big online player before, but I'm a big fan of Metal Gear so I'm really enjoying it.

I agree about Home. Sony does have that habit of announcing everything they have in the "We just got this great idea, we'll tell you later if we can actually pull it off" phase. I could care less about Home myself, just get me some more good games to play on your system!

OK, back to Persona 3 for me. Just got the new version (never played it before this) and I can already tell it's going to take up a big chunk of my immediate future. Awesome game so far though!

Good column.

Jesus Christ, I actually got a little bit of vertigo from that video when it switched to first person persective.

Target Terror is based on an arcade game released some years ago - it's essentially a follow-up to the similar Area 51 and Maximum Force.

Wowyou were really whiney in that column and that paid advertisement for Target Terror was SHIT.

I really have enjoyed your column...until today. It has been my source for ps3 news. But now, after water cooler, you've lost it man. Perspective that is.
Here's what it boils down to. You're not nearly as mad at Sony for delaying it as you are mad at them for "making" you into an idiot. You over-extended yourself in pumping up the ps3 and its features to the Xbots. Now they're throwing it back in your face and you don't like it. You have to eat your words.
I want Home to be out too. I want to see all of the improvements too. I want to see the PS3 reach the potential it has in it.
But here's the thing. You are right. The consumer gets to complain or at least inquire about the product purchased. However, you are also wrong. Look back on the PS3 box. Is Home one of the itemized features included in your box set? Are any of those games included? Did you dish out the money for those things? Were they advertised to be on board at the time that you bought it? No. Sony is making a present for you. Hear that. They want to give you something that they are not obligated to. It's as if your father said, "son, I want to give you a pocket watch." Fathers are not obligated to give it to their sons. Sony is doing this because they value you as a customer. But like an ungrateful child, you are cry and screaming for it right now. It's not finished yet. Yes, it was supposed to be given to you months ago. But are you really going to look the gifted horse in the mouth? Who the hell are you? You're a selfish cry baby. You bragged to all of your friends that you were getting an awesome pocket watch from your dad. Unfortunately it's taking a bit longer. So when your friends ask to see it, you have to say that you don't have it yet. They make fun of you and ridicule you because you bragged and shoved it in their faces. So cry. Go on. Does someone still wipe your butt for you too?
Dry your snot-nosed, tear-stained face. Buck up and be a man. Look the Xbots in the face and tell them that they are right. You don't have the features yet. It doesn't make you less of a man or a gamer for not having those features yet. It doesn't make you a dope for buying a PS3. But it does make you a child the way that you are behaving about it. Seriously, if you had an adult card, I'd revoke it. But I'm not sure it was ever given to you.
Pick yourself up, kid. You're embarrassing yourself.

Your column is mostly good but one thing annoys me, in your Playstation Store updates, you could at least list what has come out for Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Just saying stuff came out for it is pretty lazy for an actual report. I know it is lazy for me not check myself but would be the point of me reading your column then?

If you can't win as snake, then you have no stealth qualities. I won EASILY as snake. You are basically invisible if you play right.

Tips, use the sniper tranq. Shoot one guy in the head he is asleep. Then when someone comes to Wake him, shoot him in the head. Two tags real quick. I used this technique a lot. Also kill them once you got the tags so when they respawn they have tags again.

"Were they advertised to be on board at the time that you bought it?"

An awful lot of people bought PS3's after being told Home was going to be available "Fall, 2007"

Then more bought one after being told it was going to hit "Spring, 2008" instead.

I don't see many picking it up for "Fall, 2008" until it actually arrives.

I never really cared about home in the first place. I love my ps3, but if I want to "interact" with someone I'll call someone up and go play basketball, or go smash mail boxes(probably not), or play online. Since when do we need xbox live or home to "interact". If most people are like me (which I think most people are) they are not going to jump into a sim world to look for their friends online...... Nope.... they going to simple pull out their nifty little cell phone and call and/or text to play online. I was never a fan of xbox live and never will be. So I can bet home will share those same thoughts.

So now I'm going to go "interact" with my friends by calling them up and seeing if they wanna play gta iv online........ but geeeee I cant wait till home releases so I can instead talk to their stupid avatar instead

Posted By: calem (Guest)  on April 29, 2008 at 11:18 AM

I'm going to agree with Calem on this one. The idea of Home does sound interesting, but played zero part in my purchasing of a PS3. And I would suspect that home has not been a major selling point for a lot of people. I think Rod is dead wrong. People started buying PS3 because quality games started coming out for it.

Its not like you can't get online and play with friends because home isn't out, so who really cares. People are only let down because they built it up too much.

Well those are the ones that bought it though. People that believe it's going to be something other than a 3D UI. There are people who think it's actually a game all its own, or that everyone on the PSN will be in one lobby - though they've already made it clear that it's 64 people per lobby.

Those are the people Sony sold on the idea of Home, though they don't really know what Home's going to be.

I know a handful of people who bought a PS3 last year for two things - Home and LittleBigPlanet. They don't have either one yet.

I love reading this on a weekly basis because i'm a PS3 fan. But I have to say that I'm really dissapointed with this week's entry. Simple fact like as "Chungles" put below me, is THIS a PS3 column???

The reason I read this is because I am a PS3 fan and want to read things about the PS3. However, it is kind of dissapointing that the "writer" of the PS3 column publicly states that he bought GTA4 for xbox... simply put WTF!?!?!?!?!?

You know, if you are a true PS3 fan, who is the voice of the PS3 system on a site, then its good to know for your readers that you buy PS3 games. And dont give the lame excuse that you got it for the xbox because your friends have it. My friends have the xbox, they got GTA for the xbox, I have the PS3, but I didnt go out get an xbox and buy GTA for xbox because my friends have it. I got it for the PS3. You can still play it online for the PS3, so what's the difference!? You know, you should really show some support for the PS3 by at least buying their versions of multi-platform games. Its just so frustrating to see people who are "PS3" yet they go about saying that they get these games on the competitor system *cough*VEGAS 2*cough*. If you prefer to get these games on the other system, fine, by all means, it is your money. But please don't go about writing a PS3 column. Maybe it is better for you to write a 360 column instead since you are playing these games on that system. That way, you can connect to your readers a bit more. You say "Happy killing sprees everyone, I'll see you in beautiful Liberty City!" how are you gonna see us PS3 GTA players if you are playing it only on xbox? Seems a little dumb to make a remark like that.

(By the way, I'm not an xbox hater. I think the system is good and has its pluses. I'm not into the bashing of systems, I'm just a PS guy)

NOW if you bought the game for BOTH systems, then I take back everything I just said and apologize. But seriously, come on. I want to hear things about a PS3 game that comes from someone who actually owns the PS3 game or at least plays it. Call me silly, but I find a source more credible when you can relate to what they are doing.

As for HOME, fine, its delayed again. But just read the comments below. It's not a big deal. HOME might be cool, but I never was looking foward to it. I'll play it when it comes out... but when it comes out. Just have patcience. Good things come to those who wait. Sure it is a little frustrating to wait for things over and over again from sony, but if you dont like it... then switch systems and dont write PS3 columns. Enjoy the stuff that you have now on the system and build on that.

So until this becomes a "PS3" column again, I'm not holding my breath for the next one.

"You can still play it online for the PS3, so what's the difference!?"

Playing with your friends, which was the point - wasn't it?

This column has lost its focus and credibility. Formerly a good read, it is now superfluous.

"I don't care about Home anymore and have no plans to actually use it."

LOL I'm sure you'll be saying plans change when Home comes out and you start using it. We know you're just saying you don't care out of anger for Sony continuing to let you down. It happens.

Ouch, PS3 fanboy actually admitted going with XBOX 360 game instead of PS3 version, usually ppl lie about things like this to stop from hurting their readers feelings. Way to go with the honesty, its nice to see that for a change.

I won't be getting this game either. I never finished GTA 3 and never bother buying the others.

Mark,

You had trouble with R-Type? Seriously? *shakes head* I guess there are games that are toooo hardcore for people that confuse themselves with being hardcore. :-/ Actually, I love that game. I bought it because I used to play it at store by my house. It was on my way home. I could just plop in a quarter or two and play the game. It was hardcore enough that I wasn't there for a few hours. However, it was always a blast everytime I played it. I never felt like the designers beat me. It was difficult, but you never felt like you were cheated when you died.

Rod Oracheski,

How do you know people bought the system for Home? Are you that much of a fool that you need to make up stuff? What data do you have to support it? You and the stuff animals in your room are not the opinions of the general public. Your perception doesn't equal reality.

On the bright side, since he got the 360 version he can actually play online - against friends or otherwise :p

PS3 version should be working online in a day or two.

"How do you know people bought the system for Home?"

Because they said things like "I got it because I'm looking forward to Home and LittleBigPlanet" perhaps?

When I say people that ***I*** know picked it because they were excited about Home, what more proof do I need?

Why am I bothering to argue with the guy who reviewed Half-Life 2 without playing it? LOL - thanks to whoever it was that pointed that out, by the way.

For reals, is this a PS3 column. Stop trying to sell us that your a PS3 guy when you flat out tell your PS3 readers that your buying xbox games instead. I want to hear it from someone who buys the PS3 version of multi-system games, not the other way around. If you are going to be reviewing or talking about GTA 4 or Vegas 2 for the PS3, then talk about it for the PS3 because you have/bought the game. It's getting really frustrating to hear PS3 this and PS3 that... but oh buy the way "I got it for the 360". !?!?!?!?!? If you are going to do that, then write and 360 column instead.

Seriously, I love the work you do here, but for the sake of being a true writer and being the voice of the PS3 here on this site... dont patronize your readers that you'll see them in "Libery City" when you have the 360 version. Just to clue you in, most of us who read this column or PS3 users who buy the PS3 versions of the games.

And who cares about HOME!? It'll come out when it will come out. Have patience... if you are so frustrated by that, dont play the playstation. simple as that.

Support the PS3 if your a fan... dont get the other version just cuz your friends have it.

To Guest#1551

I understand what your saying as there is a bit of "PS3 bashing".Can you really blame Mark for getting the 360 GTA. You wanna get the most out of you game and given the choice you're between being able to add or not, its an easy choice. As for the Home rant, Mark is 100% right, sony tells you so far advance there doing somenting by the time it comes out your sick of hearing about it.

But let me play Devil's advictoe and ask Mark, like Guest#1551 said this is the PS3 coloum. You started with you got GTA 4 on 360 and ended with an awesome rant on Home. Are you a 360 lover pertending to be a PS3 guy, or like i belive just sick of sony dragging there nuckles?

Why the hell would any gamer buy a Video Game Console to pimp out a virtual apartment?? Home has never appealed to me and probably never will when it actually is released.

As for MGO I think its a solid online experience. Its definetly not as polished as say COD4 though (I know its still a beta but i was expecting less jaggies and faster character movement). Now for all the Sony bashing: All I have to say is get over it. You say how Sony released the PS3 prematurely, would you have liked for it to be released when say the Blue Ray standard hit 2.0? Becasue thats a little rediculous.

And I will not be getting GTA IV, and I am most definetly over 17 lol.

Ummm...and what proof do you have? Did you complete LO before reviewing it, Xbot?

"Ummm...and what proof do you have?"

Your Gamertag - you didn't even finish Portal, which is what...a 4-hour game?

I suffered a lifelong injury. If you are as smart as you claim, you would know that. You didn't finish LO, what's your excuse?

David

I suffered a life long injury too..... puberty

about 7 years ago I looked in the mirror and there were little hairs coming out of my crap hole.... it was a tragedy.

Rod,

You're just jealous that LO is more of the same. If it was as good as you claim it is....why didn't you finish it? Moreover, you seem jealous that Persona 3 FES is a MUCH

Posted By: David R. (Guest)  on May 02, 2008 at 01:35 AM

Rod,

If Lost Odyssey was as good as you claim it was, why didn't you finish it? Furthermore, you are still upset that there is a much BETTER game on the PS2 (Persona 3 FES). I think you are living in denial...as I stated previously, the best RPGs are on the PS2. It must really hurt that ego to realize that you are backing a failure (I mean...you wrote HD-DVD reviews...HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!). Everytime I see that, I laugh.

Calem,

David

I read your comment and was not impressed by your pharse about intellegence, water, and the ocean.... no... I was more so impressed that you knew water was H2O... I am indeed impressed

Thanks for the weakest form of humor. Even a troglodyte can use sarcasm. *slow clap* Are you going to 'discover" fire next?

Posted By: David R (Guest)  on May 02, 2008 at 01:13 PM

ahhh sarcasm is too low for you then? Shall I try satire... maybe something more philosophical. Maybe even something REALLY complicated like a palindrome... which would you prefer.

Your denial is beneath you...
