B3yond the Report 08.05.08
Posted by Mark Salmela on 08.05.2008

Hey everyone, I'd like to welcome you to B3yond the Report. I'll explain at the end of the column, but this might be the last time I welcome you to B3yond the Report. But let's not let that ruin the column. I've got a job to do, and the PlayStation 3 will live on with or without B3yond. So sit back, relax, and let me do what I do best *for perhaps the last time*.

B3yond the News of the Week~!

Final Fantasy news galore!

Well Square Enix held its private party in Japan, which was named DKS3713 *initials of all their upcoming games like FF13*, and there were a few big announcements coming out of the show.

The main announcement was of course the Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Complete Blu-Ray which will contain a PS3 exclusive demo of Final Fantasy 13. While I'm still bitter than FF13 is coming to the 360 *then again I never really cared much about FF13, don't like RPG's* there will probably be A LOT of people clamoring to get their hands on the Final Fantasy 13 demo. There will even be a PS3 bundle containing FF7 Advent Children Complete and the FF13 demo, and it looks like it'll be out in spring 2009. But on the bad sad of things, while FF13 will be released in Japan *and be region free* in summer 2009, it looks as if both America and Europe will have to wait until 2010 to get Final Fantasy 13, due to you guessed it, the 360. Motomu Toriyama of Square Enix confirmed that since the 360 and PS3 versions of FF13 have to ship simultaneously America and Europe will have to wait until 2010 for FF13 *there is no Japanese 360 version of FF13, so they won't have to wait*. So I hope you guys enjoy the wait, because FF13 is still 2 years off.

On the good side of things *for Sony fans*, Square officially announced via a new trailer that Final Fantasy Versus 13 will still be PS3 exclusive. Also, Final Fantasy XIII Agito will be coming to the PSP in North America. So while FF13 is multiplatform, the other two FF13 games are still Sony exclusive. And I've said ever since I watched the two original FF13 and FF Versus 13 trailers that Versus 13 looks so much cooler and bad ass. I still get goose bumps watching the Versus 13 trailer. So a lot of cool announcements by Square Enix, but too bad FF13 is still a long ways away *God of War 3 and MAG should both be out before FF13*.

Awesome…

PlayStation 3 provides EA's biggest revenue stream in Q1 2008

EA released some very surprising and impressive numbers at its financial meeting this week. While EA received only $13 million in net revenue from PS3 sales in Q1 2007, Q1 2008 saw a whopping 969 percent increase in revenue, bringing in $139 million in net revenue from the PS3 alone in Q1 2008. This puts the PS3 as EA's biggest money maker, surpassing the PC's $89 million *Steam* and 360's $81 million in net revenue *the Wii and DS numbers were in the 30 or 40 millions each*. To be honest I had no idea the PS3 sold so many EA games and I don't know what games EA were made that are selling so well on the PS3. I had thought for the longest time all companies were making more money on the 360, but these are some very telling and believe me, company changing numbers.

EA makes no mistake in announcing that their games are developed lead platform on whatever platform they believe will sell the most copies. And with the PS3 surging way ahead of the 360 in Q1 2008, this is nothing but great news for PS3 owners and I expect to see a lot of "PS3 positive" reports coming from EA in the near future. Hell, the first bit of news has already come out with EA saying that the PS3 is the lead platform for their upcoming Mirror's Edge. So far my prediction seems correct. And to think last year everyone was pissed because Madden on the PS3 ran at 30 frames per second compared to 60 on the 360 *which by the way, does anyone know if the PS3 has 60 fps on the PS3 this year?*.

PS3 firmware 2.42 released

Well this past week was met with some controversy in PS3 land, as everyone initially flipped out when PS3 firmware 2.42 launched. What I mean is that initially PS3 firmware 2.42 downloaded very slowly for some users, and some people prematurely freaked out and claimed that this would be a disaster like firmware 2.40 *Trophies and in-game XMB update*. Personally I downloaded 2.42 almost immediately with no problems. It downloaded fast, installed fast, and I had no problems. But low and behold message boards filled up this week with PS3 users having scary "near death" experiences as they thought their PS3's would die. Thankfully there doesn't appear to be any bricked PS3's *at least not an abnormal number of them*, and hopefully everyone can get on with their gaming.

It's funny that this update causes so many users problems, yet the update didn't really do anything other than the typical "improved support for PS3 software titles". I hear some problems with Blue-Tooth mics were fixed, but other than that this was a pretty weak update. Oh well, onward with gaming.

Shaq didn't have any problems updating either, did ya Shaq?

Sony PlayStation Store update for the week of July 31

Well this week we had a bunch of demos go live on the PlayStation Store, but that's beside the point. The next game to include Trophies, the first PS3 game to support uploading videos to YouTube, and the third game by Q games, Pixel Junk Eden has gone live on the PlayStation Store. Pixel Junk Eden is very different from any other game out there, and it's really something that's hard for me to explain. I could say that the basic gameplay is like spiderman swinging in 2D, but it's so much more complicated *and better* than that. You need to buy this game, or at least try out the demo if you're flat broke right now. You can play the game alone or with up to three players on one console, and it's awesome. It's really the perfect game to relax with after getting all worked up playing Soul Calibur 4.

Besides Eden, we also saw demos for Facebreaker, Lego Indiana Jones, and Madden 09. While I'm not sold on Facebreaker's button mashing, it's worth trying out the 1 GB download. All Lego games are the same, and Madden is Madden. By this point you should either know Madden and already plan to buy it, or you hate Madden and won't be buying another football game until EA loses its exclusivity on the NFL license *like me*. There were also expansions to SC4 *no new characters or anything cool*, as well as a bunch of wallpapers and themes on games like Killzone 2 and SC4. So be sure to get Pixel Junk Eden, and check out the Facebreaker demo while you're at it. That's it for this week.

You should definitely pick up Pixel Junk Eden.

B3yond the Tabloids!

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty will be released on August 21st for the PS3 on both disc and as a PSN title for only $14.99. Quest for Booty is the mini-sequel to Tools of Destruction that will provide "about 3 to 4 hours of gameplay" and continue the story right where Tools of Destruction left off. It looks pretty cool and should be a solid addition to the PSN.

The creators of Echochrome for the PSP and PS3 are working on a brand new puzzle game that uses a new type of trick imagery. It's not a sequel to Echochrome and will apparently play different than Echochrome. I pretty much consider this a good thing, because while I love Echochrome, I don't think I'd want an Echochrome 2. A new type of puzzler would be much preferred.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice will be hitting the PS3 on August 26 in North America. There are 3 different preorder sets, ranging from $50 to $90. I'd post more on Disgaea, but I really don't care. Sorry. Go here if you wanna learn more.

It's probably the worst kept secret this year, but Namco is still "hush hush" on the rumors of Darth Vader and Yoda becoming downloadable content on Soul Calibur 4. By DLC I mean Vader being a downloadable character for the 360 version of SC4 and Yoda becoming a downloadable character on the PS3 version of SC4. Honestly I know for a fact Namco will charge out the ass for these characters, with each character probably costing about $10. The only Star Wars character I'd pay money for *I already have Vader* is probably Luke Skywalker, a Revenge of the Sith version of Anakin Skywalker, or maybe Han Solo if they could find a way to make him work *he doesn't really have melee weapons*.

Well Little Big Planet has been confirmed for an October 30th release date in Japan. Hopefully this means that the US/European versions will either come out on October 30th or maybe even a week or two earlier if we're lucky. LBP is one of my most anticipated games for 2008 and we're only 3 months away from it which makes me really excited.

Capcom has confirmed that Bionic Commando Rearmed will be launching on the PSN on August 14th for $10. Random fact: I believe this is the first time a PSN game has had a release date announced more than 10 days in advance and not been delayed like Calling all Cars or Fl0w. Be aware WarHawk and GT5 Prologue don't count since they were disc based games with a PSN version as well.

It appears as if Portal Still Alive will be an XBLA exclusive title in 2008, with Valve not even being able to consider a PSN port until 2009. To be honest I'm not sure if the extra content is enough to make me buy Still Alive anyways, since there's really no new content besides some extra advanced missions that are already available for free on the PC. There won't be any new story elements or anything cool,

In my favorite news story of last week, a Sega of America representative was quoted saying that Sega is now ready to step up to the next "tier" of publishers, like "THQ". Oh how the mighty have fallen. Sega, who for a while in the 90's was the number one name in video games *1991 before the SNES came out* has been reduced to near Atari levels, saying they're ready to compete with THQ. Honestly, what the fuck? Not to mention in the interview he put Sega above Capcom yet below THQ *how the fuck does that work?*, he basically admitted they're nowhere near an Activision or EA, which from my standpoint is burying your own company.

Id confirmed at QuakeCon that the PS3 version of Rage will look superior to the 360 version due to the standards set by Blu-Ray. The 360 version will come on two discs and be compressed, while the PS3 version will be uncompressed and fit on one disc. Not to say that this will become an industry standard, but it is a sign that Sony was right in making their PS3 future proof. Games are only becoming larger and larger.

On pretty much the other side of the coin, Bethesda has announced that they are developing Fallout 3 on the 360 as the lead platform, with the PS3 and PC taking a back seat port. They didn't really say why they weren't doing the game PS3 first nor did they say anything bad about the PS3, but for whatever reason they're choosing the 360 and making it the lead *not that it'll necessarily have an impact on the final product*.

Life with PlayStation, which is basically the PS3 version of the Wii News and Wii Weather channels, has been delayed until sometime this month *August*. The program was initially supposed to release in July but obviously that did not happen. Sony had reasons for its delay but honestly I don't care about Life with PlayStation so I'm not going to look it up *why would I want news and weather updates on my PS3, I already removed that orange update thing from the top right of the cross media bar*.

A Sony Europe representative came out last week saying "Home is not a social network - it's focused on games. It's a visual representation of the PlayStation community." Umm… Ok? I thought the whole point of home was to be a social network? I actually get what they're saying… sort of… But this is a pretty contradictive statement compared to what Phil Harrison used to preach all last year. Oh Home, what a failure you're poised to be…

Speaking of Home, Sony Japan just added 10,000 new Beta testers. Looks like Sony's looking to keep stretching the servers until the full Home Beta this fall. Also, Namco has just added 3 new games to the Home arcade for free play. Those 3 games are Galaga, Dig Dug and Xevious. While I hate Xevious *I'll take Raiden any day* I love me some Dig Dug and Galaga.

And finally, there's a nasty rumor going around about the departure of Phil Harrison from Sony early this year. While the official reason that Phil quit was due to him "wanting to take on other roles", there's rumors going around now that Sony is already planning another PlayStation console *didn't say if it was portable or home console* and that Harrison didn't want to go through another cycle in the video game industry. Personally I think it's completely false, but figured I'd comment on the rumor.

B3yond the Cinema!

Here's a video of John Carmack discussing the pro's and con's of developing for the 360 and PS3. Honestly it's a very interesting watch that you should really check out *even if you aren't interested in Rage like me*. It's really a good look at what we'll be seeing from multiplatform games for the next few years.

Here's some gameplay footage of Pixel Junk Eden, which is available now and totally worth trying out.

Here's some gameplay footage of Facebreaker. I'll play it again sometime but I didn't enjoy it that much from what I've played so far. Pretty much a button masher.

Here's a commercial for Afrika, which comes out on the PS3 in Japan on the 28th of August. I assume a North American release will follow sometime this fall. It's basically Pokémon Snap on the PS3 and I'll probably give it a shot.

Finally, here's some footage from Siren: Blood Curse, which came out two weeks ago on the PSN. It's alright, recommended for fans of the horror genre.

The One Man Water Cooler~!

You know, I've just wanted to get something off my chest. Ever since Microsoft announced that people would be able to install 360 games onto their hard drives, anytime anyone makes a comparison on load times between the 360 and PS3 they are flamed and discredited because "Once 360 games can be installed onto their hard drives the 360 will always win". Well, this could be true, if it wasn't for one big problem. The majority of 360 owners won't even have the room to install those games. You see, the vast majority of 360 owners own either a 20 GB Pro 360 or have the normal 360 with no hard drive at all. And if you're like me who has a 20 GB hard drive, if you clear everything off your hard drive you only have 12 GB to play with! That's a rip off from the start.

Let's say the average 360 game is 6 – 8 GB in length *360 games are published on 9 GB dual layer DVD's*, that means that you'll only be able to have 1 or maybe 2 games installed on your hard drive if you have nothing else what-so-ever. No demos, no videos, no arcade games, no save files. Maybe 2 games at a time max. And what if the game has multiple discs *like I'm sure FF13 will have*, than what are you going to do? Sure you could get a 120 GB hard drive, but it costs 150 fucking dollars! That is the biggest rip off ever. I have a 250 GB hard drive for my PS3 that cost me $100. Over twice the space and 2/3 the price *and it's probably even cheaper now, like half the price*. Microsoft is going to have a 60 GB hard drive soon, but I have no doubt that'll be a huge rip off too, and it's not going to help anyone who already owns a 360 because Microsoft isn't going to allow you to trade those suckers in.

Any who, I just wanted to rant. The PS3 isn't without its own problems when it comes to installing games *especially the small group of people who still own a 20 GB hard drive*, but on the 360 it'll be even worse. I constantly have no room on my 360 hard drive at all, and I'm not going to blow $150 on some feature that isn't even out yet. So 360 owners can continue to rant and rave on about how installing games onto the 360 will be the end of load times, but in all reality it won't. I'm not trying to be a PS3 fanboy, but Microsoft isn't prepared at all to let users install games onto their 360's and that's that.

In an unrelated news piece however, I have beaten Night Trap for the Sega CD. Not since beating Dragon's Lair on the NES have I had such a sense of accomplishment for beating a shitty game. That is all.

B3yond the Mail!

To Big dan (Guest): Thanks for the compliments Dan. For those who didn't see, Dan just bought a DualShock 3, and just as I've been preaching, it's definitely worth the price increase. It makes games like WarHawk and Motorstorm a lot more fun.

To PHOENIXZERO (Guest): As far as I know you pretty much hit the nail on the head. To summarize: Sony has the publishing rights to Final Fantasy 7, so as far as I know Microsoft would have to go through Sony if they want to put FF7 on XBLA.

To Zing Wong (Guest): I'm surprised so many people like Captain Marvel. I've barely heard of the guy until he was announced in MK vs. DC. Maybe someone could fill me into what he has done.

To Drew Robbins (Guest): I agree Drew, now let's burn down Japan *and Bioware* so we won't ever have to play any more RPGs.

To Rod Oracheski (Registered): For those who didn't see the comments last week, me and Rod argued over Yoda in Soul Calibur 4. Personally, I believe Yoda is broken as hell, as not being able to throw him is ludicrous. When Yoda can't throw Yoda, you have a problem. Not to mention I've seen tons of people complaining how cheap he is with the majority of moves going clear over his head. Rod argues that he could go prone with other characters and it'd be the same, but since you physically have to put yourself into prone and limit your move set compared to Yoda being a native cheap ass, I don't accept that argument. Either way I'm sure he'll have more points as to why Yoda is a fine character, and maybe someone else could list reasons why Yoda isn't broken in SC4. I think I'm done with the argument though, I still think the PS3 version of SC4 is superior to the 360.

As I said before I always read what you guys send me and I appreciate the comments, even if they're sometimes filled with hate. If you wanted a response to your comment and I didn't respond I apologize.

Nintendophiles by Theo Fraser. I think I'd rather play The Guy Game than Wii Music. Then again I'd rather play a lot of things than a music game at this point.
The PC Centric Extravaganza by Chris Evans.
The Negative Edge by Tommy Coloma. Oh Tommy, I'll miss your inconsistency.
The 10th Hour by Derek Robbins. Super Paper Mario should have been higher on his list of the ten best Wii Games. Oh, and Super Mario Galaxy is leagues better than Brawl.
Coming Attractions by Drew Robbins.

B3yond the Wallpaper!

Well I have a special treat for everyone, as I am here to present to you the official B3yond the Report wallpaper. I recently tricked all of my fellow 411games comrades into giving me a little description of themselves, and it has led to the next strike in my war against the other news writers. A huge thanks to B3yond the Super fan Eric for the submission, and without further adieu, here's the official B3yond the Report wallpaper.

Download the official B3yond the Wallpaper here. It's available in many awesome resolutions. Here's a downsized version of the wallpaper.

B3yond the Report for life!

Signing Off!

Well that's it for me everyone. I'd like to reiterate that I'm not leaving 411mania or anything but due to my full time job and the fact that I attend college full time, I just don't have the time to write the column out the way I want. I'm glad to have been your source at 411mania for all of the latest and greatest Sony news for the past year, and hope to be a good fill in for anyone who needs some time off in the future. I think I've got Dan Owens signed up for next Tuesday, and I may even have to come back and write B3yond one more time two weeks from now if my other potential replacement writer falls through. Who knows, worst comes to worst, we'll hire someone new to write the Sony column at 411, so if anyone's been reading for the past year and thought they could do a better job, your chance might be coming up. I'd like to thank everyone who's been trading emails with me for the past year, as well as anyone who's made the column a real treat to enjoy. A special thanks to B3yond the Superfan Eric for all of the incredible banners he's made me, I really appreciate all the time and effort you put in for me. I'm not dropping off the face of the earth or anything, I'll still be around, so feel free to send me emails and what-not. Who knows where I'll pop up in the games section *maybe even filling in for the 360 writer, look out Joe!*. So with that said, I'll cya when I cya! Peace everyone!

"To be honest I had no idea the PS3 sold so many EA games and I don't know what games EA were made that are selling so well on the PS3. I had thought for the longest time all companies were making more money on the 360, but these are some very telling and believe me, company changing numbers."

Looks too good to be true, huh? Probably because it is.

The PS3 numbers are a wild guess at earnings, called GAAP numbers, since Sony doesn't report DLC sales with any accuracy. They still have sales from two quarters ago showing up on earnings this quarter.

EA took six-nine months worth of DLC sales and bundled them all into this quarter - possibly to try and make their loss for the quarter look more palatable.

The non-GAAP numbers shake out like this:
Xbox 360: 81
PC: 70
PS3: 68
PS2: 40
Wii: 39
PSP: 26
DS: 21

I don't know how anyone actually believed that story, when I can't ever remember an EA title selling more on the PS3 than the 360.

So you're trying to tell me that EA's inflating about $60 million dollars on the PS3 side, but the 360 numbers are exact? lol...

Lol yeah, let's tell the real number son the 360 side, but those PS3 numbers, you need to add another 60 million on there, because you know it'll look cool.

Are you serious? Or are just that seriously biased?

And where do you get your numbers from? I'm taking my numbers from EA's financial reports, where lieing can lead to some big consequences. It looks like you just thought up a bunch of numbers in your head and thought they sounded good.

"And where do you get your numbers from? I'm taking my numbers from EA's financial reports, where lieing can lead to some big consequences. It looks like you just thought up a bunch of numbers in your head and thought they sounded good."

EA's financial statement. Is it my fault you don't know what you're reading? Look up GAAP and non-GAAP numbers, then read further down the financials to find their verifiable numbers.

Again - Sony doesn't, or can't, accurately give them numbers on their DLC sales so EA used estimates, lumping in microtransactions for every title sold since Christmas or so in with the 'real' numbers.

They don't do that with Microsoft because they believe the data provided by MS is accurate enough for accounting purposes. They don't inflate the DS or other consoles because there's no DLC on them.

Go back to that financial report and look farther down, where you'll find an entry for NON-GAAP numbers.

So...yeah. How's that again?

From competing with Nintendo during the SNES vs Megadrive era to struggling to compete with THQ (who aren't actually that much better than they were when they were foisting Home Alone, James Bond Jnr and Wayne's World on the SNES)? What a nosedive.

Oh, and I'd put Capcom's output of the past few years ahead of Sega's and THQ's. Apart from Virtua Fighter 5, can anyone name a Sega game from the past few years that's worth touching. Not to mention the fact that they published Sonic 2006, Golden Compass & Iron Man (Games that have attracted bad scores across the board. Even from people who have a 73% = average policy)

Ok, say your right and somehow EA doesn't actually know how much money they're making *which is ludacris* from the PS3.

You're basically discounting 60% of the sales EA reported on the PS3 because you're not 100% certain that they were accurate. You're saying $60 million should be thrown out and doesn't exist because Sony doesn't "accurately give them numbers on their DLC"?

Seriously, you have a right to your opinion, but trolling all my columns gets old Rod. Rather than coming into my column and picking fights, shouldn't you have something better to do with your time? Maybe you should work on improving your own column, than people would actually read it and you wouldn't have to troll mine to pick fights with people like Dave R.

It is funny, Mr. Oracheski is all crazy, eh He is just a fanboy, eh. For being pro US Microsoft is probably setting him up very big, eh.

Heh, all kidding aside, but Rod must suffer from Alzheimer's Disease. He will forgot details when it hurts his case, and he will warp information to prove his point. He is just a troll.

DO NOT FEED THE TROLL!

Just ignore him, he is less than you.

Good column...but I have a question. What is the cheapest PS3 controller I could get. I'm getting a PS3 within the next week and I don't want to spend $55 just so I can play 2 player on Soul Calibur.

Problems with 2.42? Who has these problems? The only people I would say the have problems are M$ trolls. I didn't have a problem with the download. Actually, none of the downloads have caused me any problems.

The 360 is getting the worse version of Rage? I think Carmack's comment was to change the way M$ rapes developers. The only multi-disk games released on the 360 were published by M$. That is the reason I will call them M$ until they change....

Okay, two things... Is that guy actually carrying a Rhino in that trailer for Afrika?
And second, I have to agree with Mark, I own the 20 gig HD for the 360. Downloading titles to your hard drive is going to eat up far to much space. I already do not have room for all the stuff I want to have on there. Hell, if you download three or 4 demos you are already pressed for space.

Usually this is a decent read, but you obviously have a huge chip on your shoulder about the 360. About half of the column had a snarky remark or two about how much better the PS3 is than the 360. Hell, the first item in your tagline was "Rant against the 360", which sums up the majority of Sony's online fanbase pretty well.

Here is an idea, instead of writing about what you are against, write what you are for. Be original instead of a GameFAQ's troll. Write about the good things that the PS3 has to offer, so those on the fence about getting one who already have a Wii or 360 don't feel like they are entering a civil war by getting/playing one.

It's a video game console, report on it, and quit bitching about other companies and products that have NOTHING to do with the one you are writing about.

Mark, read the financial report again. Read BELOW the part you went nuts over, and you'll find the non-GAAP numbers - which are exactly what I quoted.

I'm not throwing out that money at all - I'm saying it should be put where it belongs, spread over the last six to nine months, instead of taken all in one quarter.

EVEN if you take it all in one quarter, go ahead and add up all the quarters to see the results. The 360 is 'ahead' by a quarter of a billion dollars.

I'd have been nice about this, but that's twice now that you're calling me out about this. You're mouthing off without knowing what you're talking about - and you want to call someone else biased? Come on, man.

And Dave - everyone knows lateralus and Mega Man Forever are both your logins as well. For a guy who 'always puts his name to what he says' you sure post from alts a lot.

Drew, you could get a cheap-o for about $15 at Best Buy made by like Madcatz or something. But to be honest the DualShock 3 is worth the price tag in my opinion. Then again SC4 doesn't support rumble so you won't notice it for SC4 but you will playing other games.

I guess what I'm saying is eat the price point at buy a DS3. Because honestly every 3rd party controller I've bought sucks and breaks within 3 months. It's just not worth it.

Wait a second... Mega Man Forever is David R? You sneaky sumbitch.
I must examine this... Mega Man Forever said: "Problems with 2.42? Who has these problems? The only people I would say the have problems are M$ trolls. I didn't have a problem with the download. Actually, none of the downloads have caused me any problems.

The 360 is getting the worse version of Rage? I think Carmack's comment was to change the way M$ rapes developers. The only multi-disk games released on the 360 were published by M$. That is the reason I will call them M$ until they change...."

Let's see... Random Microsoft bashing where none was required... Check.

Random US bashing where none was required... Check.

Random babbling about how developers hate Microsoft...Check.
I'll be damned. Dave you sly son of a gun. Whats the matter? Did you lose track of which of your Dave Aliases was pro Sony, and which was pro Nintendo? (We all know none of the aliases like Microsoft) Way to put your name to everything you do Dave. Thats awesome.

Yeh the last 3rd party controller I had broke on me relatively quick...so I might just have to bite the bullet.

sorry mark but rod is backing all of his stuff up with numbers and references whereas you keep falling back on 'it must not be true, because it doesn't make sense to me' statements. Factual and supported statements vs circumstantial theories and insults.

Sorry to see you leave Dave. I've really enjoyed reading your columns, they're always good. The comments section is usually fun too, what with all the fanboy trollers getting up in arms over the most ridiculous things. It just goes to show you that they love your column too (or they just love to hate it!) Anywho, maybe you could do a weekly or bi-weekly piece for LBP when it finally comes out, showing new tips, tricks and ideas or something like that. I know I can't wait for that game, you sound pretty excited too, seeing as how you've mentioned it in the last 3 columns or so! Good luck to you in the future, long days and pleasant nights!

stronelis,

Rod is basically saying that EA is lying for Sony. Why would they do that? That does not make sense.

"Rod is basically saying that EA is lying for Sony. Why would they do that? That does not make sense."

I never said that at all. They're reporting the DLC sales now because they don't have any accurate accounting of them, and they need those numbers in this quarter to reduce their losses. Look up the difference between GAAP and non-GAAP numbers before shooting off your mouth.

Way to go, by the way. Only took you until your third reply on the thread before you used your 'real' login, Dave.

You are still trolling? Don't you have something to do...like a hobby?

You were told to stay out of my column troll...

I'm clarifying the point to people who asked. I haven't responded to a thing you said, other than this, have I? I don't even care that you refuse to admit you were wrong, that's your perogative, man.

Posted By: Rod Oracheski (Registered)  on August 06, 2008 at 04:00 PM

I didn't know what the GAAP non-GAAP thing meant so I went to google and found out in five minutes. Most of the links went to places talking about the PS3 vs 360 thing and explaining exactly what Orcheski was saying about how EA did this and what it really meant.

Bashing a guy for correcting your wild misconception is kind of silly. Refusing to accept that you were wrong is kind of fanboyish.

Well, the first two paragraphs of your response was correct. Then you you were incorrect about the third comment. Actually, it was only one.

About lateralus being my login, did I ever say otherwise? Also, when did you start having this hive mind or thinking you were God?

You said everyone. You cannot be everyone. Furthermore, people that do not have computers would even know this. Is your perception of the world soooooo small? You must think the world is only Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and 411mania/games. Isn't that a bit asinine?

Daves an idiot. Mark good luck in all future endeavors. Hope to see you back every now and again.

and you have said otherwise there Dave, you have said on more than one occasion that you put your name to everything you post. Well does that really hold the same clout if you are posting under 357 names?

Are the numbers right or not?

Posted By: Confused (Guest)  on August 07, 2008 at 05:35 PM

Who cares if the numbers are right. They are not as entertaining as two 411 writers wrapped up in a heated blood rivalry. I smell a fact or Fiction face off coming.
