Coming Attractions 8.24.08: Castle Crashers (X360), Disgaea 3 (PS3)
Posted by Drew Robbins on 08.24.2008
Its a busy week for Coming Attractions, as each system gets a pretty big game next week. From Disgaea 3 to Castle Crashers, 411's Drew Robbins takes you through all of the releases next week!
Bonjour, et bienvue, à cette semaine de l'édition Coming Attractions (French edition!), avec votre hôte très spécial ... Drew Robbins! Ahh, screw it, I can't keep up with the French words, also I hear that Google translator is filled with inaccuracies. Oh well, I'll do it one day, when I learn French…which will never happen. This week, apparently there are a crap load of games coming out. You don't even understand how many games I'm talking here; there are at least 5 games that are worthwhile on this line up.
- I guess Too Human came out to really bad reviews. 5.5? Come on Gamespot, I think there is a difference between a bad game and one that fails to live up to unholy expectations. Oh well, I suppose I'm not surprised, considering there are some other gems that were released to less than great reviews…to name a few – Assassin's Creed, God Hand, Mario Strikers, and…I'm sure you readers would love to add to this list. So, post some opinions on great games that were given the cold shoulder by today's media.
- There was a little game called Team Fortress 2 that got an update, an update that can only be described as "awesome." I probably haven't said anything about it in my column, but I am a huge Team Fortress 2 fan. It is the only First-Person shooter I have ever been addicted to. Well, back on subject, the update was cleverly disguised as a Heavy-class update, but that wasn't what I cared about. Arenas are fun (I guess they are from Counter Strike. This will garner me some wary eyes – I've never played Counter Strike), and the new map environments are beautiful. After seeing nothing but deserts for about a year now, green grass (and High Tides) is a welcome addition.
- Time to plug myself, as I was busier than usual on 411 this week. I put up a preview for Kirby Super Star Ultra and put up a review for We Love Golf! I like We Love Golf, but I have yet to unlock Chun-Li. This is, as you can tell, tearing away at my very soul.
- Last tangent, I swear! There is a 411 Mania fantasy football league, where I will destroy some of your favorite writers! My victims? Ramon "My Editor" Aranda, John "Curryman" Curry, and Derek "Burning Soul" Robbins. I fear that this part may be removed by my editor, Ramon, who is quivering in his boots about facing The Opportunists!
Reader Feedback
Hey, thanks to you readers, I reached a new Coming Attractions record. 21 comments! I'd like to thank all two of you, David R. and David Hater (hehe…like Solid Snake!).
Well, if you think SRPGs are the only thing on the system, you really do not know anything about the games released. Here are 18 games that I can recommend.
David R. likes the PSP, perhaps too much…
-Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (true MGS on your PSP)
-God of War: Chains of Olympus (miniture GoW)
-Tales of Eternia (RPG goodness)
-Mega Man Powered Up (remake of the original Mega Man with a level creator)
-Loco Roco (puzzle game that only Satan himself will hate)
-Killzone Liberation (3/4 view action game from Guerrilla Games. Gives hope that Killzone 2 will actually be awesome)
-Rachet & Clank: Size Matters (portable R&C game by High Impact Games)
-Silent Hill Origins (portable Silent Hill goodness)
-Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (SFA3 with 4 new characters! Awesome!)
-Tekken Dark Resurrection (Portable Tekken 5 with more characters, more modes, and Tekken Dojo)
-Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (Remade Symphony of the Night, the Original Dracula X, and more....awesome)
-Space Invaders Extreme (the space invaders+bosses+some acid=trippy retro gaming)
-Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (a remake of the orignal PS1 VP. Ties into Silmeria. I actually reviewed that game)
-Riviera: The Promised Land (a remake of the GBA with more voices)
-Wipeout Pure (AWESOME Wipeout action....do not buy the sequal)
-Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (The best Syphon Filter in a long time)
-GTA: Liberty City Stories (portable GTA....sets up story of GTA III)
-GTA: Vice City Stories (Sets up the story to VC as well).
I think this list is questionable…well, in my opinion at the very least. MGS: PO, I already mentioned my dislike for that game. God of War, I still haven't played it, but I did like God of War 2. Tales of Eternia is an ok game with generic characters. Mega Man Powered Up, well ya got me there, I loves me some Mega Man. I am Satan, so I guess I wouldn't like Loco Roco. Killzone, the name alone makes me cringe. Ratchet and Clank lacked two buttons necessary to any good Ratchet game. Silent Hill hasn't been worth talking about since the second version. Street Fighter Alpha 3 is, and will always be, superior on the PS One. Tekken 5 is something I already own, but it is only about $20 now I think. Not a fan of Castlevania. Space Invaders is on the DS as well. I hear (though this is from Derek) that Valkyrie Profile is not only cool, but something I might enjoy. Riviera…that is turn based, so I probably don't care about it. Wipeout will always be an inferior version of F-Zero. I can't say much about Syphon Filter, never played any of them. Liberty City Stories was good, I beat it. Vice City Stories, not quite as good.
Yeah, I just don't think I'm the target audience for the PSP. I own 6 games, Daxter, Parappa the Rapper, Final Fantasy Tactics, Monster Hunter Freedom 2, Ratchet and Clank, and Worms: Open Warfare. Four of those can be played on other systems. The other two are Daxter (a great game) and a game that is, more or less, a single player MMO. I honestly don't see much to love in the PSP unless you like SRPGs.
Rod Oracheski is the author of the next comment. He liked Too Human, by the way.
"The 360 gets repaired the first time for free, but if it bricks again they make you shell out $90."
If it breaks you get a one-year warranty on everything from the point it's returned. It'd have to be outside that warranty to be a charge for it. If it got the RRoD it's three years, and that's also renewed any time it's repaired.
Before Dave jumps in to question any of that, you can find it on the Xbox.com website.
That isn't how it worked for me, but I guess Microsoft has something against people who have made claims such as "The original Xbox had no games" and "I hate Microsoft." I did, however, like the 360 to an extent. However, I know I shouldn't say this, but I think they rushed the hardware out…there is no excuse for all of the problems it has.
Josh Rumsey needs to hurry up with that Marvel vs. Capcom tourney. COME ON!
Dude I don't need a PS3 anymore, FF13 is going to the 360 no problems after the first brick. By the way almost got enough money for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 almost got it...so close...
I think I replied in the comments section by saying that if you don't buy Little Big Planet, you are the cancer killing gaming. I meant every word I said. Also, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a great game, but do you guys want to know a HORRIBLE story? So this person, named Derek Robbins, sold our copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 a few years ago. Yeah, you read that right, he sold MARVEL VS. FRICKIN' CAPCOM 2! That is classic Pffeifer, if Desmond Pffeifer sold great games for no reason. I don't think he does, though I might want to fact check that.
Mark Salmela talks more General Chaos.
Everyone always said the flamethrower was overpowered in General Chaos but I find that bull. Give me 2 TNT guys *dynamite guys* and I will destroy the entire enemy team. That and the team of 5 machine gunners is also unbeatable if you know how to properly surround the enemy team. Oh god I wish EA would bring it back.
General Chaos desperately needs to come back. Mega Man came back, Bionic Commando is back, so why not? I defy EA to give me one good reason. I would love for an EA rep to email me with ONE good reason not to. (The email is drew_robbins@hotmail.com, EA!)
Toddo is another Too Human supporter.
Got to disagree with you about Too Human. I think the story of the trilogy will be a re-imagining of Ragnarok(Norse Judgement Day).
The story is the reason I will be playing the game. I gave the combat a second effort, and it is a bit better than my initial impression, but the story is what is keeping my interest about Too Human.
I don't usually play action games for their story. In fact, I don't play games for the story, period. However, a great game with a good story is a powerful thing. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is a perfect game, it had a good story, and a perfect everything else.
JBone has crazy memories…
Actually friend. Truth be told, the Mario Sports series started on the NES. I remember Mario Golf for the NES rather vividly.
I don't think so, Tim. If memory serves me right (which is usually doesn't), that game was simply called "Golf." Also, I just remembered that Mario Sports started on the Virtual Boy, with Mario Tennis. Nobody played it, but it did exist.
Coming Attractions – Week 7
This week is so big I'd even call it November worthy. I will be covering five games and will probably end up giving my first ever thumbs up in the quick previews section.
Mario Super Sluggers - Mario and gang are back for another game of Baseball. Unfortunately, nothing much has changed since the last time Mario was on this field. The only real addition to the formula was motion controls, which may or may not be a great addition. I say that because I still don't know how the heck I will control the fielders with just my Wii remote?! Do I click and drag them like in Diablo II? Or do I just pray that my fielders know what they are doing, like in Wii Sports? I'd prefer the Diablo II style but I'm worried that Nintendo will "casual" it up with the Wii Sports type controls. I've heard that you can attach the nunchuck, but that won't be too comfortable when you are trying to hit the ball. Needless to say, I'm curious how this game controls. When I said that nothing changed besides motion, I really meant it. The description for the game modes sounds the EXACT same. They didn't fix the horrible single player, and they added more mini-games that I'm not sure anyone cared about. Just like with Mario Tennis on the Gamecube, they seem to really care about the mini-games instead of the actual single-player. However, this game was never really meant to be a single-player focus. Like every other sports game, it shines in the multiplayer. I hope you have friends that like Mario Baseball though, because this game features no Wi-fi. Why not? Because that would actually require changing the game. My Rating: Ehhh I will assuredly be buying this game, but I'm not sure that I can completely recommend it to you. It changes very little and the motion controls have me a tad worried, this is the first time that I've ever considered just sticking to the Gamecube version.
- Mario seems to only hit home runs in clutch situations, at least in my play experience.
Tales of Vesperia - Another system, another Tales game with a lackluster story and button-mashing gameplay. I'll talk a little about Tales of Symphonia, a game that's appeal has worn thin on me over the years. I knew some people who played the game, and they always talked about how they beat the game, with their "advanced techniques" and strategy. They asked me what I did to beat it, and I just said that I pressed "A" over and over until I saw my characters dance in celebration. From what I have seen, Tales of Vesperia changes very little. You still press the attack button on a 2.5d battlefield, in order to advance through a generic story with generic character who maintain a generic anime art style. Most JRPGs suffer from horrible characters, but the Tales games characters are so one-dimensional it boggles the mind. "Hi, my name is Lloyd. Collete is the chosen one so I need to protect her because I'm in her class." Well that makes sense? His other motivations were probably the fact that she was a girl, who obviously likes Lloyd because he is the main protagonist. Every twist in the story is so blatantly obvious that anyone who passed Kindergarten could see it coming. There was a twist, towards the end of the game, that I knew almost the second I started playing. Also, the gave away one of their twists, which is not something I would recommend if you are a good writer. The only redeeming quality to this game is the gameplay, and even that is only somewhat decent. I've already said that you can beat the game by jamming on the attack button, but you can also prolong your victory by using skills and combining techniques with your allies. This gameplay is most well suited to the kind of person who button mashes in Soul Calibur and thinks they are skilled because they have a winning record on the online mode. My Rating: Thumbs Down If you like button mashing in fighting games and games with characters that are even worse than characters from Final Fantasy, then this game is for you!
- RPG with anime characters, where have I seen this before…
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice - Speaking of games with anime characters, we have an Atlus game coming out this week. I can't say any good things about this game, because I'm still at war with Atlus, demanding a return to form for Snowboard Kids and a less annoying series of missions at the end of Trauma Center, and a change of art style. None of those demands will be met, because the last Snowboard Kids game came out was "edgy" and sold poorly, Trauma Center's difficulty is just to be expected, and the art style is loved by the fanbase. To be honest, my main beef with the game is the characters. For one thing, I hate anime, so that particular art style will never endear me towards the game. Also, they have voices that sound like nails on a chalkboard. I played the original Disgaea for five minutes, and I heard one voice, which caused me to promptly turn off the game. I haven't played it since. Other than characters and story, I can't say many bad things about the series as a whole. It offers up tactical gameplay, which I've heard from many people (3) rivals Final Fantasy Tactics. Of course, I'm stubborn and refuse to look past the story and the character design. I had the same problem with Persona 3, a game I haven't ever played, but just by seeing the cover, I knew that this game was not for me. I am way out of the target radius of both of these games, but I understand that if you are in that radius, that these games are delicious. My Rating: Thumbs Up - If RPGs are right up your alley, then this game is perfect for you. Hours upon hours of gameplay await you.
- See that cover? That is the sign that I'm not buying it.
Infinite Undiscovery - Woah, woho! WOW! HOLY CRAP! A Square game that actually looks…fun? So let me see if I've got this all right, this is an RPG that is NOT turn based, and features gameplay that doesn't appear to be just jamming on the attack button? Sign me up! So this game has sneaked up on me, as I just recently found out that it existed. By recently I mean just now, as I'm typing this. I went to EBgames.com, saw Infinite Undiscovery (with a strange Friday release date?) and watched the trailer, a trailer which truly amazed me. I haven't cared about a game coming out of Square since Kingdom Hearts II came out. Where did this game come from? The graphics look nice, the gameplay looks nice, so let us talk about the story. Its been said in this column once, and I'll just say it again, the story in Final Fantasy games are not that great. The last time the story was actually intriguing was Final Fantasy 7, and before that it was Final Fantasy 6. Two games out of 12? That isn't a very good ratio, in case you didn't know. Of course, this isn't Final Fantasy, but I can't say much better for the Star Ocean series, which comes out of the same studio as this game. In case you didn't know, Star Ocean 3 had a horrible twist, which just made the story incredibly stupid. My Rating: Thumbs Up - Good looking gameplay, so lets hope for a good story. Please?
This Week's #1 Pick
With four decent games coming out, I wasn't sure if I should give a #1 pick. After careful consideration, I bring you this week's #1 pick…
Castle Crashers - Oh. My. God. It is here, Castle Crashers is coming out this week. While I won't be able to buy it myself (darn you Microsoft!), I can't recommend this game enough to you readers. Castle Crashers is the second game to be made by the geniuses behind Alien Hominid, a side-scrolling shooter that rivaled the quality of Metal Slug. Now, in the year 2008, we have Castle Crashers, which looks like a beat-em-up that could rival the legendary Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Castle Crashers was announced way back in 2006, and it caught many people's attention. It seems that the game fell off the radar for quite a long time, only to reappear last month with the announcement of the Summer of Arcade. (Which, by the way, has been flawless so far). That day was a bittersweet moment, because while a game I have been excited for since 2006 got a release date, I knew that I could never play it. Hear my plea, developers, bring this game to PSN! I DEMAND IT! My Rating: Two Thumbs Up - Beat-em-ups are awesome, Castle Crashers is part of that genre, so it MUST be awesome.
- Heaven or hell, make your choice. I call Green.
Quick Previews
Tiger Woods 2009 - Hey, more golf games, but this one features Tiger Woods! My Rating: Thumbs Up - Tiger Woods! Woo!
Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness - I haven't played these in a while, but I do like the Harvest Moon Games. My Rating: Thumbs Up - A life sim with actual gameplay, unlike the Sims…
The Sims 2: Apartment Life - Another Sims expansion? Sheesh. My Rating: Ehh - I guess if you like the Sims, why not throw another $30 on to your game? There are too many of these though, and that money will feel wasted when Sims 3 comes out next year.
Digimon World Championship - I loved Digimon as a kid. My Rating: Thumbs Down - However, I did not love the Digimon games. Not even as a kid.
Pajama Sam in: Don't Fear the Dark - Pajama Sam fears nothing, especially not the dark. My Rating: Two Thumbs Down - He also isn't afraid of bad review scores. Pajama Sam is a real trooper.
Spy Fox in Dry Cereal - A point and click adventure about a fox, who I can only assume is investigating a case. My Rating: Thumbs Down - I hear he investigates a "Cereal Killer." I know, I'm brilliant.
- Tiger Woooooooooooooo!
The Console War Scoreboard
Well the Xbox starts to pad its *temporary* lead.
Xbox 360 3
PS3 1
Wii 1
DS 1
PC 1
PSP 0
I think next week the PS3, 360, and PC will take away the win, because I'm fairly sure that Mercenaries 2 is on the release list.
Yesterday's Attractions
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade) - Castle Crashers has accomplished two feats. Not only did it win my "prestigious" #1 pick award, but it also gave me a chance to put the Ninja Turtles into my column. It has been brought up before in the 10th Hour by Derek, but there was nothing more important than Ninja Turtles and pizza when we were kids. So naturally, Chuck ‘e Cheeses was some kind of fantasy world, where a kid's wildest dreams came true. Many tokens were spent trying to take down the Shredder, and it was worth every quarter. Of course, what made Ninja Turtles so special was the fact that it was a licensed game, which was absolutely amazing. Any time a game based on a cartoon rivals original games by Sega or Capcom, you know that it is magic. Streets of Rage, at least in my opinion, had nothing on this game. You had four turtles, I think five stages, and four slots on the arcade machine so every turtle could be involved. I remember seeing these machines crowded with kids, each putting their hard earned cash into the little slots. Those were the days. I actually saw a Ninja Turtles machine fairly recently. It was kept aside from every other game in the arcade, off in its own little corner. On that day, tears of nostalgia were shed. Manly tears, mind you. Related to: Castle Crashers My Rating **** out of 5.
- Donatello is the best, and if you argue, you know nothing about Turtles.
The 411
The Exploding Barrel Podcast by Mike and AJ. They accepted the challenge of Soul Calibur IV, and they will surely pay for it. We need some stakes for the game though, suggestions are welcome.
The 10th Hour by Derek Robbins. Top 10 NES games, and where in the world is Tecmo Bowl. Your lack of it disappoints me. Also, Super Mario one is better, Super Mario one is better, Super Mario one is better, Super Mario one is better….
The Full Circle by Joe Roche. He is getting married so wish him well as he takes off for his honeymoon.
Achievement Unlocked by Rod Oracheski. He supports Too Human, so I shall support him.
The PC Centric Extravaganza by Chris Evans. He talks a little about the TF2 updates, which were awesome, in case you didn't know.
The Checkpoint by The Curryman. You know, I liked the third Harry Potter game.
Select and Start News by Vince Chiucchi. So Tom Clancy can predict things? Ask him when Duke Nukem Forever will come out.
B3yond the Report by Mark Sal…Dan Ow…DEREK ROBBINS?! OH CRAP! There is a trailer of Street Fighter IV in there, and that game just looks so awesome.
Nintendophiles by Theo Fraser. Chrono Trigger comes out in November, I cannot wait. This is only a little behind Little Big Planet and Prince of Persia on my excitement chart.
C'est tout pour cette semaine's Coming Attractions…eh, I'll stick to the English. If you have any feedback drop me an email at drew_robbins@hotmail.com or leave a comment below.
Your lack of affinity towards the PSP will cause the heavens to unleash their wrath upon your shoulders! Now, you should buy boots; so, you can shake in them!

Tales of Vesperia Demo was horrible ! I don't know what was worse the gay emo voice overs with snappy comebacks like a smart ass 12 yr old ! or when the voice overs stopped whoring itself and the speech balloons became just as an aggravation !
The Final fantasy 7/8/9 battle system but with free base roaming with the fight reminded me of Pokemon battle arena meets Blue Dragon !
Very unoriginal and unsatisfying as Blue Dragon was! If i was a girl or boy ages 8 to 13 than maybe yeah i would buy this or a parent getting this for a kid under that age limit
this is not for hardcore Rpg'ers
(Is that even a word ?)
It just overkills the genera it's trying to improve upon ! I would honestly like a vote on who in the public likes and votes for these crappy emo rpg's!!
RPG's of old would bow their heads in shame on the legacy they left behind to see it turned into this kind of crap we are seeing today !
I mean whats the foucs group ? Asian emo/pink kids with smart alec comebacks ? The characters dialog was over the top with stuff trolls say on internet forums ! A real aggravation !
also the art work graphics were anime' in style with a 3d effect shadow similar to cut outs in stop motion internet digital comics -but than again that seems to be the fade now a days - so they get no bonus for going outside the mold !
Overall if i had to rate the demo i would say a 2 out of 5

Wait a minute, you say something about LittleBigPlanet, but you do dislike/hate Loco Roco? Hypocrite much? :-)
Posted By: lateralus81 (Registered) on August 24, 2008 at 04:30 AM
Dave I was joking, never played the Loco Rocos.
Posted By: Drew Robbins (Guest) on August 24, 2008 at 12:38 PM
I'm messing with you. Do you honestly think I was being serious? Well, you should try it (if you find it cheap somewhere). The game is pretty cool....OR you can try out the demo, if you can find it.

As a fellow Sands of Time fan I must inquire what your opinion of Warrior Within is?
Posted By: Simpleton (Guest) on August 24, 2008 at 03:21 PM
Well, Simpleton, I think Warrior Within is ok. The only problem I had with it was the fact that there seemed to be much less of a focus on platforming than the original. It was still fun though.

"So, post some opinions on great games that were given the cold shoulder by today's media."
Chromehounds, in a way. It seems like reviewers never bothered playing it online, which was the point of the game. They hit the single-player tutorial campaign, then judged it based on that. With a group of friends, the game had tons of strategy and serious legs - some friends still play it today.

^^^^
Do you have any opinion about a game that is NOT on the 360? >__
Posted By: lateralus81 (Registered) on August 24, 2008 at 06:19 PM
I can't wait for Castle Crashers... seriously... 3 more days? ... *sigh*...
Posted By: Jeff Borislo (Guest) on August 24, 2008 at 07:33 PM
Dave does it really matter if he talks more about the 360 than anything else? It is a system that caters towards his gaming tastes, I don't see a problem with that.
Jeff, I'm with ya, but I won't be able to play it on launch due to my lack of Xbox. I'll have to force one of my friends to buy it.
Posted By: Drew Robbins (Guest) on August 24, 2008 at 07:47 PM
"^^^^
Do you have any opinion about a game that is NOT on the 360?"
It was an example I thought of. Do you ever post without thinking of me? Seriously, your man-crush is kind of creepy.
Posted By: Rod Oracheski (Registered) on August 24, 2008 at 08:41 PM
What seriously need to happen is for Sega to pull a MegaMan 9 with Sonic the hedgehog. Make a real Sonic 4 *not crackers* and make it using all of the Genesis limitations. I feel if they do that they'll actually have a chance at making a good game again. I was going to write a column on it but then I realized Sega hates money.

You talk about a man crush? This is coming from a person that thinks EVERYONE is me. >__< Before you spew an excuse, you are also a guy that will ask a moderator if an IP address is the same for different logins. When you can't get an answer (because they are a guest), you assume that they are me. Snake and Otacon are prime examples....

After reading Rods comments on the warranty issue with the 360, and having my own 360 brick on me(for the 5th time), I have to add that my current box is less than 7 months old. When sending in for repairs, I was told my the on phone service agent that once I get my xbox back, I would only recieve a 90 day warranty. There was no mention made of a 1 year warranty. In addition to that, I have been trying to have email correspondance with xbox.com about what happens to the other six months that was left on my original warranty. Needless to say I keep getting the stock response about how much more helpful they can be if I call the support line. Just thought I would add a new perspective to the warranty thing.
Another question I have for whoever can answer it: I did a repair check on xbox.com, and it said my machine was done and is on the way back to me. How do I get these trackin numbers? They were never sent to me from Xbox.. Any help is appreciated.

"Before you spew an excuse, you are also a guy that will ask a moderator if an IP address is the same for different logins."
LOL - I asked once, when I felt it was obvious you were using two logins, but denied it.
Turns out it WAS you as both accounts. *gasp*
You were using two logins, talking to yourself...
I wonder how many other login names you have. It's just a matter of time before everyone knows about it, Dave - you keep slipping up and referring to things your other logins said as if you did.

I loved what you wrote about TMNT. It brought me back tons of memories, I used to play that with my brother and sister on the arcades. As I got my Xbox 360 it was the first game I downloaded from XBLA. Actually that game along Gears of War is what made me buy the Xbox 360

You know... not that I want to stir the pot in this beef between Rod and Dave, but I am tending to agree with Rod on this one. It seems as if Dave comments under so many different names, that it is really hard to keep track of. Lateralus, Dave, David, David R, David Redkey, Dave (registered) (guest), perhaps you should stick to one, and it would avoid so much confusion for everybody, and possibly... just possibly avoid continued arguments between you and Rod. I mean, shit man, anybody can say they are Dave, and in the past I have both seen a guest Dave admit to being all of these different Daves, and a guest Dave deny using any other name. I've seen Daves confirm that they have a lady friend, yet in the full circle report there is another Dave saying that he gets multiple girls, and they are all of the high school level. It seems like it would benefit your cause, and everyone else, for that mantter, if you cut down your number of names you comment under.
Just a suggestion, and believe me I am not complaining, I love the blood fued that is Dave vs. Rod, I find it highly entertaining, with you two at each others throats over everything M$ vs. Sony.
Posted By: Toddo (Guest) on August 25, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Toddo,
M$ is a fanboy response. Microsoft or MS is a better discription. That is like calling Sony, $ony. Just a friendly suggestion.
About tracking number, did you try sending an e-mail to xbox.com? Do they have an e-mail contact page?
I've sent my 2nd Xbox in for repair, but it isn't going to be the 5 day turn around that happened to my original 360. They said 2-3 weeks.

You claim ONLY one time Rod? PROVE IT!
Posted By: lateralus81 (Registered) on August 25, 2008 at 08:33 PM
Gee, Dave - maybe I should just call you ManCrush from now on...as the guy disputing it, aren't you the one who's supposed to prove it?
Not that you prove any of your inane little points, ManCrush.

You know what would be awesome? David R. vs. Rod Oracheski in a fact or fiction. Make it happen Tommy!

It turned out I read the damn repair thing wrong, and it is still in shop. Oh well. Life goes on. I've been enjoyinhg a bit of retro gaming, breaking out the ole N64 and original Xbox. It hasn't been so bad.

You see, you can't prove your point. I guess that proves how a lying canadian tries to switch topics quickly. I'll think of a personal attack for you....hmmm...DirtyCanadian? MyCountrySucks? I know, Don'tHaveTheTalentToWriteForARealNewspaper? How about CumGuzzlingGutterSlut. That is it.
Anywho, you are just upset because you children have my eyes. Man, you just need to get over it. Move on. I was drunk. I paid her with a twenty. So, you just need to chilll out.

Well Lateralus, I would like to thank you for taking my comment as fanboy. ZOMG!! he used M$!!! He must be a fanboy. Whatever man, I will type it MiCrOsOfT if I want to, or M$, or MS, or I will just call them 'osoft, thats my choice, for my words. But if you once again want to focus on the one part of a comment you can draw an dig from, that would be your choice. I was just offering a suggestion to save yourself a headache, but it is apparent now that you strive on this kind of thing, so more power to ya man. But again at the very least stick to one name, so we all know when it is actually you.

Woah, woah, woah, Toddo. I wasn't making a dig at you....at all. I just used M$ as a way to describe Microsoft awhile ago. I didn't want to type out Microsoft because M$ is only two characters. Anywho, some jackass ripped me because they said M$ was a fanboy comment, and I was like "what the hell?" So, you can call them whatever you want, but I was just trying to help. That is all.

Since you enjoy your DS more than your PSP, what do you think of the Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice series? FYI, you should try CivRev for the DS, if you don't already own it.

apology accepted.

Toddo,
You should not listen to Rod. He is a delusional idiot. First, he says they reset your warranty...no the don't. They give you a 30 day Warranty, or the rest of the ORIGINAL warranty.
Now, I may get on your nerves sometimes, but I know what the hell I'm talking about. Rod is obviously a troll, and a fanboy.
Proof:
"Any replacement parts or Xbox Product will be new or refurbished or serviceably used, comparable in function and performance to the original part or Xbox Product and warranted for the remainder of the original Warranty Period or 30 days from the date of shipment of the Xbox Product back to you, whichever is longer."
If you need to learn something about Microsoft, you should never believe a blind Microsoft supporter. They will just provide you disinformation, or lies. If you ask a gamer, such as myself, I'll give you the accurate information.

Just a usual comment. I didn't really want to say anything. i just wanted to push the number to 30. :-)

I've come to the conclusion that you both have good points and bad, and please do not bring me into your squabble, by using me as a means to further insult someone else in the comments section. much appreciated.
Posted By: Toddo (Guest) on August 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM
I was bringing you into it, per se. I was using you as an example. I guess I like to use examples. It is better to say "you are wrong because of this, and this, and this" instead of just saying "you are wrong."
That is how I differentiate myself from Oracheski. He is guilty of the latter; so, I use the former.

Well in another column you said I believed Rod's "lies" about the 360 warranty, and that was not the case at all. What I did do was read Rod's comments about the warranty, and added what warranty I was offered for my specific problem. Just the same, if you are going to quote me, or use something pertaining to me, to further your point, please keep it real. Make sure it is something that is true, or at least something implied. You assume I got burned because of Rod's info on the warranty. In reality, I got burned because Microsoft burned me with their poorly made machine.
PS. Just so you know your info about the 30 day warranty, or keeping the original warranty is wrong too, as I didn't get either. I got a 90 warranty from the time I get my box back. So again, you both make good points, and you both make bad points, but either way, I find you two crazy sunsabitches entertaining. I agree, Rod vs. LateraDave in a FOF!!! Make it a nine question FoF, and have three Sony questions, 3 Microsoft questions, and three questions about video games in general. I would say make the last three questions about Nintendo, but that could open a whole new bag of worms between these two.

Hey guys, Derek got 60 comments or so this week, that is something to shoot for. Just askin a favor :)

*shrug* The letter that came in the box with both of the machines my two friends had to have repaired both said the same thing - the warranty is renewed from the date it was mailed back out to them. I really just wanted to see if I could get ManCrush to go look at the Xbox.com website. I wonder if he was seething the whole time.

You are oh so confused, my friend. Your feelings are displace. The only reason I have to keep in touch with you is my children. If you weren't taking care of them, you would just be another misinformed canadian. When was the last time Canadians won the gold medal in hockey?

To answer your question, it was during the 2002 Olympic games. They went over 50 years without winning the event.
They didn't fair too well during the 2006 games. They were shut out by the Russian team.

"To answer your question..."
That was your question...do you not even realize when you're talking to yourself anymore?

Considering that you are a sports editor for a second-rate newspaper, you should be familiar with a thing called a typo. You would also be aware of a thing called a retraction, but your ignorant response means that you've never heard of these terms. That must mean you write in a third-rate newspaper.
I apologize for assuming that you were an editor for something superior to tabloid journalism. I was wrong. Keep your eyes on the prize. You'll matter someday....just not today.

No worries Rod. I am due to get my box back tomorrow, so I will have this letter, and be able to shed more light on the warranty situation, and hopefully put it to bed once and for all.
I got to say though, I am very impressed with the actual repair process. I have only been without my xbox for 7 days now, and it is due to return tomorrow. That is way better than the 3 weeks they told me it could take.

I'm trying Drew, but I don't think you are going to get 60 this week. Try ending next weeks column with a backhanded fanboy comment. That always seems to get people talkin. The beauty of it is that it doesn't even matter which system you insult. Call Microsoft or Sony junk and watch the fireworks go.

LOL - there isn't a paper in the world that would call replying to yourself a "typo" or "retraction" - though saying they didn't "fair" too well would be a typo.
You keep going on about my job - what is it you do again, ManCrush? Oh right, bitch on the comments for a site you weren't good enough to write for.
Keep on reading, though.

Its really starting to get scary how much Lateralus knows about Rod... It's reached almost stalker levels.

Next time, just skip over Role-playing games. We know you dislike them, pretty silly bothering to review them if you have nothing but insults. I don't mind reading your articles, but again, just makes no sense if you are always going to be a baby about it.

What is my job?
I provide information and referrals that are approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). In other words, I help the general public. We provide the information on diseases and resources in their area that can provide assistence. I work as the point of contact for the CDC/ATSDR.
