B3yond the Report 08.26.08
Posted by Derek Robbins on 08.26.2008
This week, B3yond the Report discusses the possibility of Kojima working on Metal Gear Solid 5, the possibility of Metal Gear AC!D on PSN and Mark Salmela makes a special guest appearance to discuss some Warhawk news!
Okay Jungs, let's get diesem Ball rollin '.
(Essentially, welcome to B3yond the Report! Like my brother Drew, I felt like doing the intro a little different this week).
A couple of notes: First, I can't upload photos because my computer is acting crazy so I have only what's available to me in my photobucket account already. I apologize in advance for this relatively photo-light edition of the article.
B3yond the News of the Week~!
Kojima interested in doing ANOTHER Metal Gear title?
Remember how Hideo Kojima claimed that the last Metal Gear Solid he would be a part of was the fourth title, the end of Snake's story? Hey, it's a good last title, it had an air of finality about it after all! Well…it appears that Hideo might be reconsidering that as a recent interview with Kikizo will tell us.
When we look ten years into the future, maybe yes, I may well end up spending more time on the Metal Gear series.
I always intend to stay true to these statements; I do always say what I actually feel at that time, after each Metal Gear, when I say I am going to move on to the next project. But it's like when Hayao Miyazaki says he is not going to do more, and then always ends up doing it
Now, of course this is far from definitive. He's not standing on a rooftop, shouting out that Metal Gear Solid 5 will be produced by himself…but really, I can't see a Metal Gear game NOT produced by him, and let's face it…it's not like it's the first time he's claimed to have been done.
Remember how Metal Gear Solid 2 was supposed to be the last game? Kojima was stepping down and wanted to work on a game featuring the bond between father and son…Of course, we all know how that ended up – unless you count Boktai as that bonding experience game he truly craved – the game never came to exist. I mean sure, Metal Gear Solid 3 has some bonding themes, but I'd hardly call it the same thing.
MGS 3 was also supposed to be his last game, but surprise surprise…he came back for the fourth title. So to have a headline such as: "Miyamoto changes his mind, re-embraces Metal Gear" would be like having a headline that says: "Young Americans steal music, feel no remorse". It's common knowledge at this point.
Still though, even though it may be common knowledge…knowing that he may very well come back for the next installment makes me happy. I couldn't see myself stealthing around a new environment from anyone in that universe unless Kojima was behind it all. Bless you sir!
I figure, hey, if you're reading this report odds are you have at least a passing interest in Metal Gear Solid, so I felt it was my duty – nay! – my obligation to pass on this bit of news to you. Did you enjoy the Metal Gear AC!D games for the PSP? For those of you who don't know what they are or simply don't own a PSP…essentially take Solid Snake's adventures and transplant them into a strategy RPG card-game environment. There you go! It seems pretty un-couth but once you get to playing it you'll enjoy it.
Anyhow, if you seem interested in that, do I have some news for you! Apparently Kojima, when asked about the AC!D series on the PSN, had this to say:
"I'll say yes to that idea, but not because it is already running or anything, I'm just saying yes because it's possible, I think it is possible. Sorry to say we don't have specific plans at the moment, but it is possible, yes."
Well, you know how game producers absolutely never come out into the open to admit anything unless at a press conference or something? They always vaguely hint at it or have a mysterious: "Wait and see" approach? Well…this is kind of what I feel is going on in that quote. Oh sure, he doesn't say it's going to happen, but he doesn't out-right deny it either. If he had no plans or if he truly didn't feel it would ever happen, I feel he would have answered very similarly to the way Masahiro Sakurai did when questioned about Smash Brothers Brawl DLC.
So sure, this may simply be a rumor…but MGA on PSN would be fantastic and my money would definitely be at their hands. Even if he isn't directly involved, the MGA series is one I want to see continued desperately. I am a huge fan of SRPGS and while MGA wasn't perfect…it combined strategy with Solid Snake and to be quite honest, I could not ask for anything more than that.
No wait... It's a brief message from the grand master himself, former B3yond the Report writer Mark Salmela!
Did you honestly think I would just run away and hand Derek this column on a silver platter? OF COURSE NOT! As my former B3yondites know I have a hard on for WarHawk and I feel it is my duty to be the official news reporter in regards to the new WarHawk: Operation Fallen Star booster pack! Hell, I covered WarHawk as my sample piece on my application to 411mania, so obviously WarHawk and I have a special bond only a mother and a child could have… Or a boy and his sock… No wait... Stick to the first one… Hell… WE'RE DOIN' IT LIVE!
Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a fallen star! Wait… Mark Salmela is in the sky?
Sorry… I couldn't resist.
But seriously, this Thursday marks the release of the third expansion pack to one of the best supported console games in history, WarHawk. Yes, a game that will have been released exactly one year ago this Thursday will be receiving it's 5th official patch as well as its third official expansion pack. And might I add this might be the coolest expansion pack yet!
WarHawk: Operation Fallen Star will follow its predecessors in bringing out both a new map as well as a new gameplay mechanic, which in this case is the long-awaited Jet Pack. The new map will be called Tau Crater, and will be set in a dense forest where a Chernovan warship has recently crashed. Both sides have come to claim the goods of the fallen warship, but only one will emerge victorious! I have been suggesting since the beginning of my time at 411 that WarHawk add a true level set in the woods, and not just levels set in mechanical bases with a few trees here and there for scenery. So who knows… Maybe somebody from Incognito reads this column and will be granting me a final wish! Or maybe it's just a case of great minds think alike. Who cares it's still awesome.
The other highly anticipated feature is the Jet Pack, which users *along with myself* have been clamoring for from the beginning. No more wasting time trying to climb up a stupid hill to reach those landmines, now you can simply fly up there! The Jet Pack will be a serious change to some of the gameplay mechanics, and in my opinion it is for the better. Players who use the Jet Pack will now have a much better chance one-on-one against the jackasses who get in a WarHawk and make it their personal duty to stalk and kill you with their turrets.
Also, all users can log on Thursday night and download a new patch which will be adding Trophy support to WarHawk. Some of the Trophies will even be retroactive, thus saving users from having to start over like they did in Uncharted. Finally, besides Trophies, the new level, and the Jet Pack, Fallen Star will also include a tutorial for new players as well as support for custom soundtracks. It appears as if WarHawk: Operation Fallen Star will cost $8 *like the other two expansions* and will be a great addition to the already stellar WarHawk. Seriously, this is one of the best games on the current generation consoles and is in my opinion the best game that can be purchased online for the current generation of consoles. I recommend picking up Fallen Star this Thursday.
Whoa, hey, what happened? Why did it get dark all of a sudden? Ah crap…Mark wrote all over my post. I better just, uh, move along then.
Seriously though, thanks for the Warhawk info Mark.
Hell Freezes Over, Valve to Support PS3?
It seemed that at the end of the world you could count on two things. One, that cockroaches could survive a nuclear holocaust and two, that Valve would take their undying hatred of our beloved monolith to the grave. As to why Gabe Newell hates the console, nobody REALLY knows…but it appears that Doug Lombardi has had a beam of light shine immensely on his forehead as their whole anti-PS3 slant could be a thing of the past!
"We're always evaluating what's happening in the marketplace and certainly something that's happening in the last couple of months is that Sony's managed to sell some boxes."
So you see that folks? If you simply buy a system, a company's viewpoint on said system can change! I know you may be shocked to hear that you and your money have such power in this industry, but you do! You really do! So, like, what can we expect from Valve? Are we going to get that one game that's going to set 360's and PC's on fire later this year? Left 4 Dead?
Our buddy Lombardi says that there is a 50/50 chance that this is happening. That's right, flip a coin right now wherever you are and call it in the air. You have as much chance of getting that right as seeing this admittedly awesome game on the PS3 in the future. I figure exclusivity is pointless…I mean, most of the best games from this generation appear on both the 360 and PS3…so why not simply release it for both? More money for you!
Come on Valve, you can do it. Also, if you plan on bringing those Medic/Pyro/Heavy updates over to the PS3 can you please not charge for them? I know Microsoft is making you do it, but…resist the urge for Sony! It's only a matter of time before people realize they can get the same updates on the PC…for free!
So, feeling slothful and not checked PSN since Wednesday of last week? SHAME ON YOU! Luckily B3yond the Report has you covered, here is a list of all the stuff that came out last week on PSN

I am very intrigued by the Ratchet and Clank title. The price tag is very small to go along with the short length. To be completely fair a LOT of the time they charge full price for games that are just as short, so I'm not going to complain…especially when it comes to a series that is quality such as Ratchet. I just hope the Ratchet series isn't in a slump of mediocrity as the last two games I have played in it – the PSP one and the first one released for PS3 – were wholly average.
We also have the ability to play as Kratos in Hot Shots Golf now. Seems kind of peculiar to me since I don't figure the target audience of Hot Shots plays much God of War, but I mean…I guess if you want it, it's there. Speaking of bonus content you also get a Dragonforce Track Pack for Guitar Hero 3 (Ugh) and the Duran Duran, Devo, Janitors stuff I mentioned from last week for Rock Band. That seems alright to me. Oh, and if you were one of the unfortunate souls to buy Haze you've got a neat little free downloadable. How nice!
The demos for this week are pretty interesting. I haven't got to try the Last Guy yet – though later this evening I shall get to – but I have tried Force Unleashed and I can tell you that if you A-) Enjoy Star Wars and B-) Enjoy force choking bitches this game is for you. I'm not sure it'll be my FAVORITE beat-em-up of all time but I can tell you it's going to be a fun time.
I'm not going to touch on the trailers since you can go to any back-woods internet site and find those odds are, but let's take a look at the themes and wallpapers. Even though I doubt Ratchet's theme will knock MGS's theme off of my PS3 anytime soon, it's there for your perusal along with one for inFamous. I'm not huge on wallpapers, but I should feel obliged to mention – as this is primarily a wrestling site – that there are TNA wallpapers available.
One last thing, you see that Jeanne D'Arc is for sale? If you haven't tried it yet, you probably should. Some would say that it was the best SRPG available on the PSP last year and considering it has FF: Tactics: War of the Lions and Disgaea to compete with that's no small praise. Gotta love your shockingly historical strategy games, ya' know?
Source is, of course, Sony
B3yond the Tabloids!
This Tuesday marks the beginning of a new era. Schools worldwide are demanding this game be released on a weekend so all the kids will remain focused on school. Work places are hankering down for people to call in sick…I mean, this release is THAT big. Madden has nothing on this. DISGAEA 3 FINALLY GETS RELEASED THIS TUESDAY. Guess he has dibs on the review? Me. Expect my review of Disgaea 3 sometime on Friday or Saturday. I seriously cannot wait.
So were you reading last week's B3yond the Report and felt yourself frothing at the teeth for more Final Fantasy XIII themes? Well, to be fair, the characters look pretty cool in all of their PS3-glory…so I can't blame you. Being a man of the people, I come supplying pictures JUST FOR YOU. Just point your browsers to Famitsu and you will not be disappointed.
So, how many of you enjoyed playing last year's Call of Duty 4? No, not me, I still have yet to play it…and I don't see myself doing it anytime soon. THAT said, I am aware of its popularity and thus have news about a possible release month. That's right, an Activision rep claims it will hit stores in November. Makes sense, after all, it's holiday season time. So, uhm, just wait until November to get your shooting on!
At the Leipzig game convention, they awarded Resistance Retribution game of the show for PSP and Little Big Planet game of the show for the PS3. That seems rather neat…but what made me REALLY happy was the fact that Sonic Chronicles won best in show for the DS. Could it be…could it be…a Sonic resurgence? I hope so. Sonic deserves another good game after so many years and Bioware may be the company to deliver it.
Gamestop expects a 50 dollar price-cut for both the PS3 and X-Box 360. This is good for those of you choosing between a monolith or a…domino square? 50 dollars may not seem like a bunch, but if you buy a PS3 and you save 50 dollars you know what that 50 dollars can buy you? Disgaea 3. It's only 49.99 you know. What a brilliant business move!
So how many of you like dthe narrative to the game Max Payne? What? Nobody is raising their hands? I mean, there has to be at least ONE of you. Seriously, no one? Well, uh, at least the game was kind of fun right? Right? Well, someone thought it would be a good idea to make a Max Payne movie at the very least…and it is my duty as your dutiful Sony reporter to link you to movie posters. After all, this fall season…Angst isn't just a pain, it's a max pain. Here are the movie posters via Latino Review. Why is his head down like that? Is he really THAT shamed to be starring in a Max Payne movie? Yeesh.
Like Devil May Cry? You may also like Bayonetta! It's a lot like Devil May Cry except, like, the main character has even MORE firearms. That's pretty weird right? She's also a witch as opposed to a demon and uses her hair to fight. Ahhhh j'yeah. I bet you want to see some pictures for this game, don't you? Well, I am here to deliver them! What would you do without me? I mean, outside of utilize google. Jeux Video with the images
B3yond the Cinema!
Well, this week all the videos are from youtube because my computer is acting weird and will NOT run Game Trailers. It's actually a mini-miracle I can even post B3yond the Report today because all day yesterday I was getting Blue Screen STOP errors. I am still getting them today, but I found a temporary fix…my computer and internet still have issues. For goodness sakes when I click on a link on google it doesn't always go to that link, but to a different search site. UGH. Hopefully I find a more permanent fix by next week. So you'll just have to put up with the lesser quality…again, sorry.
You guys have probably seen this video about a thousand times by now, but if you haven't seen it…it's a must-watch. To say it instantly gets me in the mood to play Street Fighter 4 is a bit of an under-statement. Right now my desire to play that game is so high that I can't quite put it into words. Daigo's comeback and the crowd cheering it remain firmly etched in my memories.
Remember that Bayonetta game I mentioned in the Tabloids section? Well in case you aren't familiar with it yet, I have come baring a trailer for you to take a look at. It doesn't show any actual gameplay, but trailers these days rarely do…so you'll just have to look at some neat violent CG. Poor you.
This is a trailer for Left 4 Dead. You will see why I am so enthusiastic about the possibility of this game being released on the PS3 someday…I just hope Valve's new found love of the monolith reciprocates into payoff!
Alright, speaking of Street Fighter 4…check out some footage of Akuma in action. Yay
!
Here, watch this trailer for GAME OF THE MILLENIUM…Disgaea 3. Did you hear that it comes out this Tuesday? Yes? Well, I don't think you heard enough. You better go buy it! IT COMES OUT TUESDAY!
The One Man Water Cooler~!
This is the final week it will be called The One Man Watercooler. Toddo came up with an interesting name and it'll go by that next week. The only reason it didn't change this week is due to my computer struggles. I did not have the ability to make a new graphic…and it's kind of sad. My computer better shape the hell up!
So for those of you who know anything about me, you probably know that I am a fan of fighters…and for those of you who don't know anything about me: I like fighters. To say I enjoy a good fighting game is a bit of an understatement. Street Fighter II dominated my life whilst in the arcades and I suppose that every single year at least one fighting game takes me over and completely dominates me. Smash Brothers Brawl does not count in this because it's made by Nintendo I don't really consider it a fighting game, but a party game. There are two candidates for my fighter of choice this year, the upcoming Street Fighter IV and the recently released Soul Calibur 4.
Lord help me, I love Soul Calibur. This tale of swords and souls eternally retold really captivates me…and it's good to see that the fourth game in the series improves in most every way. Sure, it's not the most balanced fighter in the world, but compared to the prior two installments four is practically Street Fighter II in terms of balance. Now, I mean, balance doesn't necessarily make a game perfect but in a fighter – a game stressing replay value among peers – it REALLY goes a long way.
There are some problems though…let's start with the story mode. To say it's a joke would be generous. You go through five rounds against AI whose intelligence would make your average Family Guy fan laugh in glee. Seriously, if you know how to grab or press the triangle button you WILL beat story mode. Simple as that. I'd like it if the story mode was any good…but even then it's not. You are introduced to a scrolling wall of text when you start and every ending is essentially: "I have the soul calibur or the soul edge and here is what I am going to do with it." As a fighting fan, I couldn't give a shit about the story…but it would have been a nice extra perk. I actually do care about some of the characters. Oh well, at least they're TRYING.
The "elongated non-story one player" mode in this game is an improvement over last year's tactical fighting game scenario but also still not quite up to Soul Calibur II's Weapon Master Mode equivalent. Essentially what you do is battle up and down a tower and try to get treasure chests by beating your enemies in a certain way. While fighting person after person with no background story is fine and dandy, I feel like I should mention again that the AI is *BAD* and it detracts from the experience. It's not VF 5 – where we blindfolded my brother and he was able to win battles – but it's still bad. It's neat to figure out how to win chests, but it still isn't quite up to par with weapon master mode.
SC IV also has a neat character creating system which…is good. It is more varied than the one you would find in Soul Calibur 3 and they also are nice enough to dis-allow the broken move-sets. Thanks guys! It's fairly easy to create a game character of your choice, but since the armor you select has certain values for Special Battle mode…you may be limiting that character to only appear in Normal Battles. It's only a minor complaint on my part since I design characters with which mode I plan to play with them in mind…but I would have liked a slightly different way to manage stats so I can wear whatever the hell I want AND battle in special mode.
Now, you may be asking: "Why would you care about which kind of battle as long as you battle?" The answer is simple! I play a lot of online and like to have the character choices in front of me…but instead I feel kind of limited. I only use my godly Create a character in Special mode and have the entire cast available to me in regular mode. It just feels kind of counter-intuitive I guess.
Speaking of online play, to call the people you play against a mixed-bag is an under-statement. It seems whenever I fight someone they either have an 80% win percentage and are ungodly good…or they only know how to jam on the triangle button. As much as you LOVE Killik's triangle, triangle, triangle…if you're fighting someone who knows what they are doing, it isn't really going to win you any battles. Maybe I'm just super average so the differences just leap out at me, but it truly seems everyone is either ridiculously good or ridiculously bad with no in between. I either win all three rounds or lose all three rounds. For reference sake, I am at a 68 win percentage in normal mode and 48%-ish on Special mode. It's really odd…but whatever.
All in all, while Soul Calibur may not be your ideal single-player fighter but who in the world plays fighting games solo? As a multiplayer experience it's pretty grand and while the online experience can be a bit varied…it's still a fun, relatively lag-free fighter and in my book that's worth my money. Sure, it's not the definitive fighter like I would have hoped but I totally see this game lasting me until Street Fighter IV comes out later this year. The online play is the best in any fighting game ever and I hope that fighting games online only improve from here.
B3yond the Mail!
Let's check up on some of the feedback I got from last week!
Ocelot 422 wins "worst comment of the week award" with the following gem
More Japanese gamers buying the 360? Good, now more of them will know what an unreliable pos that junk is and saying "This 360 is a junk.""Why it no work anymore?! Why no working! Why I buy!! Why i buy!! It junk! It junk!"
Not only am I fairly sure that's moderately racist, but you're really selling the 360 short. While it has had its problems in the past, the 360s on the market now don't have the same problems that the first batch did. I really, really think if you own one console you have no reason to own another since they are both so much alike. Call me crazy for not disliking the 360 but I consider it to be an equal to the PS3 because when I look over at the, er, domino compared to the monolith…I don't see much difference.
Why so serious, Theo Fraser
How about changing the One-Man Water Cooler completely? Maybe something along the lines of "Batman and Robbins think..." Awesome, no?
You can tell I was hired because of my dashing good looks, not my creative talent.
To be fair, it works on two levels. One, I have an inferiority complex and the "Robbins" after Batman falls into that because, you know, who would want to be him? Also, like, Batman is the Dark Knight. He is VEILED IN DARKNESS. The monolith is also dark. So like…uhm…my defense of it would make me the dark knight as well, right? Right? YEAH!
A Guest got annoyed by me stating a sales figure.
"Well over the course of this year, the PS3 has outsold the 360 in the states"
comments like this annoy me, of course the 360 cant stay at the same pace as the past, so many people have one, there is a limit to the number of gamers in the states. Isn't almost every gamer gonna have one by now? the machine is 3 years old.
There isnt an endless supply of gamers who need a 360, those who want one already have one, PS3 is the new novelty due to finally having some decent games whiles its onlines features are still terrible.
No kidding. This is the same argument I use for the PSP out-selling the DS on a given month. So many people own DSes that EVENTUALLY it's going to stop being the best selling based on that principle.
Also, the Playstation has FAR from terrible online. It's free, it's functional, and guess what? I don't notice a ton of difference between PSN and X-Box LIVE except that my wallet if 50 dollars heavier. I mean, I guess it has a couple of disadvantages but right now I don't think it's a ton worse.
Shockmaster has a…shocking opinion.
Derek: You said you don't care about the Tomb Raider series. Did you play Tomb Raider Legend? Because personally I wanted to scream (and truth be told I did) by the end of the original. I didn't go near the series again until Legend and it was a truly great game. To each his own though. I'm one of the few who hasn't gotten MGS4 and likely never will. For a million dollars I couldn't tell you the plot points or character stories of MGS1 or MGS2 both of which I played. And that's without even starting about the maddening controls in the series. I better stop before everyone reacts like I ate their first born.
I played TR Legend and thought it was alright…but I wasn't blown away or anything. Maybe I've got an odd opinion or something? As for Metal Gear Solid 4…well, sure, the plot is confusing but did you know you can download the Metal Gear Solid Database off of PSN? It explains practically everything and is a handy little guide to what happens through the course of the game. It's still complicated stuff, but now it's an easier monster to take down.
Also, compared to MGS 1 and 2, MGS 4 controls like a dream. While three is still my favorite game in the series, 4's gameplay is a lot smoother in my eyes than it has been and really…it lends itself better to replays.
Vallejo concludes the comments this week:
Wait, so you liked Final Fantasy XII but didn't like Tales of Symphonia? Hell, I guess you're a fan of stupid gimmicky bullshit. I don't want to "program" my fighters in an RPG, for Christ's sake; that just takes an already weak and lumbering battle system, punts it in the cunt, and replaces it with a big heaping bowl of TEDIUM. I love just walking into a room and watching my guys do all the fighting with absolutely no input from me! Golly gee, that is the best!
I dislike gimmicky bullshit as you put it, but I like games that try something different but are also fun. FF XII ISN'T a "been-there-done-that" Final Fantasy and I really appreciate that. You may not like that the characters have to be programmed, but I think it lends more strategy to the game. To each his own, I suppose you could say. I think XII's story and characterization were really neat as well.
As for Tales, I dislike the button mashing and the bland, generic anime-style storyline. I really can't give a better reason for you. It's just not my sort of game. There's a market for it though, apparently.
The 411mania Empire~!
I regretfully cannot link to every news report I normally would as my internet is not allowing me to search 411 at the moment. I'm starting to think it'll be a tiny miracle if I can even post this column. So apologies in advance to Theo Fraser and Tommy Coloma, I can only link to what's on the front page this week. (I can't even CLICK on them though. Ugh.)
Well, that's it for this week. E-mail me at Dragonmaster_Alex_158@hotmail.com I may not be able to respond though because for WHATEVER reason my computer won't let me send e-mails out via hotmail at the moment. Ridiculous. You can also leave a comment though.
Its supposed to be a joke. But don't deny the fact for a next-gen system, it is a POS with its problems from day 1. DAY 1!!! And i will call you crazy for not disliking the 360. At least Salmella doesn't consider it as equal to the Godstation 3. I miss him already.

and how can i be racist, i love the Japanese people and its culture.
Posted By: Ocelot 422 (Guest) on August 26, 2008 at 12:22 AM
the japanese are merely testing the 360 and prooving once and for all that it is junk. after the japanese themselves show their digust for the 360, the world will follow suit. who else to know its junk than from the most technologically advanced country in the world? thats right. america is falling behind. the only thing it can do is make your penis bigger and it witholds that from the japanese to keep them from true superiority.

So to have a headline such as: "Miyamoto changes his mind, re-embraces Metal Gear" You mean Kojima, unless Mario and Link are going to have some sort of Octocamo armor or something.
Posted By: Spell-Check (Guest) on August 26, 2008 at 12:52 AM
octacamo armor? is that like...a disguise to stay invisible to anime fans? and would it be a giant bar of soap, shaving cream or an attractive woman?
Posted By: mike shinobi (Guest) on August 26, 2008 at 12:57 AM
WTF? Are you insulting anime fans, mike shinobi? Please. Anime fans are at the very least intelligent than you average x-box gamers or Comic book geeks.
Posted By: Oclelot 422 (Guest) on August 26, 2008 at 01:02 AM
I saw the Miyamoto thing and couldn't fix it because, ya know, my computer.
Also, it's fairly obvious it was a mistake as I refer to him as Kojima throughout the rest of that.

"And i will call you crazy for not disliking the 360. At least Salmella doesn't consider it as equal to the Godstation 3. I miss him already."
Didn't you see me talking about WarHawk lol?

ocelot please go away all you do is talk about the greatness of the PS3 while giving no resons and it's very annoying

World's greatest comment section eh, Derek? You have one guy arguing that the 360 is horrible and if you don't agree you are stupid. Someone saying that Japan is going to hate the 360, just cause. Somebody making fun of anime fans, someone defending anime fans.
So I'll give you a normal comment. That Daigo video is the greatest thing that has ever been recorded on film.

Gabe Newell did an interview in Edge a couple of years back where he said he isn't really a fan of consoles in general.

Well, I feel like fueling the flames; so, what is more likely to happen, the PS3 winning NA or the 360 winning Japan? Discuss...

The Daigo video so nice I posted it twice.

The PS3 winning NA is the most likely scenario. Xpos360 has no more aces in the hands anymore. The PS3 is strong now with their upcoming games and features. 3rd place for M$ confirmed!

I also am a fan of fighting games. I know you Robbins' boys don't dig the Mortal Kombat, so I won't go into that.
I do have a question for ya though... You said: 'As a fighting fan, I couldn't give a shit about the story'.
How can you not play a fighting game for a story? I think the stories are the most intriguing part about most fighting games. That is why I insist on beating them with every single available character. So I can see what happens to everybody. I'm just baffled as to how story is not important to you in a fighting game. please explain...
PS that was one hell of a comeback in that video.

sooner or later, you will realize the dreamcast sucked and ms isnt living up to its fake legacy and will wonder
hmmmm....sony is king and i need a ps3 and then buy one. its only a matter of time

Yeah that EVO clip was frigging awesome. It's too bad we won't see anything like that in SF4 because it's been ridiculously dumbed down from SF3:TS.
Plus the art style of SF4 is awful. What happened to the black ink style from the first teaser trailer? That looked bad ass.

I think the 360 wins out in North America simply because the system caters to our nation's fascination with shooters more than the PS3 does. I think that the PS3 caters more to hardcore gamers than the 360 does, and that's why - to this point - the 360 is winning over here.
Also, as for fighting games...It's not that they're NOT important to me...it's just that if it's bad it doesn't cripple the game in the least. Like I'd hardly call any of the scenarios in Street Fighter 2 good (though, let's be real, watching the endings was a cheesy blast), but damn that game was good.
If a fighting game had a good story I would embrace it fully I just don't feel one has come along lately. Simple as that.

Also, Mr. Shinobi, how could you say that the Dreamcast sucked? If anything, it was ahead of its time! Just because it didn't hit home with a lot of gamers doesn't mean it was bad...it was just under-appreciated. It had ACTUAL innovation and not just innovation for the sake of innovation which a lot of companies today could learn from.
Also, Matt, I like SF IV's art style. It looks stylish I think. As for the gameplay...I will withhold judgment on that until I get to play the game later this year. I cannot wait.

I DID NOT SAY THE DREAMCAST SUCKED. i was getting a point across. dreamcast launched with a 10 game at gamespot. it cant be bad.

most xbox fans were bitter Dreamcast fans who were upset that Sony dominated their console.

The 360 has NO variety. All it has are shooters. The PS3 is the place for variety and worthwhile exclusives.

Thanks for elaborating Derek, and I can totally see your point now. I'll play a fighting game just to play a fighting game, (I bought Rise of the Robots, for gods sake) but a good story is what will keep me playing longer than I normally would.

Derek has my vote to do the review for Disgaea 3: Abscence of Justice. I do not want to see a third-rate hack write the review for a game they do not even understand. >__<
