The PC-Centric Extravaganza 11.26.08: A New Challenger Approaches
Posted by Drew Robbins on 11.26.2008
Its a bird, no, its a plane...no, its just Drew Robbins, the new writer of the PC-Centric Extravaganza. To make up for his lack of aviation-capabilities, he brings news of Fallout 3 DLC, an April Fools joke turned real, and the game of the year going gold!
The PC-Centric Extravaganza November 2008
Welcome, to the PC-Centric Extravaganza, and I am your brand new host, Drew Robbins. What? You were maybe uhhh…expecting the Adams family? Lousy Ninja Turtles references aside, there is nothing quite a bit of news! Funcom makes some cuts, Prince of Persia nears release, and among other things, Bethesda is releasing tools for modding Fallout 3! All that and…a bit more in this edition of the PC-Centric Extravaganza!
Fallout 3 Mod Tools/DLC Announced!
Despite saying up and down for a month that they weren't going to release the tools, Bethesda has finally come out and said that yes, in fact, they were going to release mod tools.
"Users can create, modify, and edit any data for use with Fallout 3, from building landscapes, towns, and locations to writing dialogue, creating characters, weapons, creatures, and more."
Fans of Bethesda games have come to expect this feature with the games, so seeing Bethesda do this for Fallout 3 shouldn't be too big of a surprise. To bolster spirits of the fans, Bethesda also announced future DLC for Fallout 3, to make up for the apparently lousy ending of the game.
"Operation: Anchorage. Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe – the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.
The Pitt. Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.
Broken Steel. Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March."
While I don't imagine the words "Brotherhood of Steel" brings up any fond memories for Fallout fans, these DLC packs do sound rather nice. Operation: Anchorage looks like the frontrunner for quality, with Broken Steel following closely behind. The Pitt seems interesting, with the game now branching out to the remains of Pittsburgh. Fallout 3: Destroying a town near you with every bit of DLC!
All in all, if you are one of the many who played Fallout 3 only to be disgruntled by the pitiful ending, these add-ons should put you back in good spirits.
Remember a few months ago when Age of Conan was riding high in the world of MMOs? Well, times have been rough on Funcom, as most of those subscribers from the summer have moved on to bigger and better games. Times are so rough that they have been forced to cut some of their staff, working mostly in the customer service and quality assurance departments.
Not to worry though, Funcom says that these cuts came along with new jobs, and that the company is just fine. Well, we'll see about that, the industry hasn't been kind to companies trying to compete with World of Warcraft, and I don't see this situation being any different.
- Something tells me that AoC isn't going to last much longer…
Every April Blizzard graces its fans with plenty of great April Fools jokes. Remember the tin foil hats in World of Warcraft, or the Tauren Marine? Another famous joke by Blizzard was the World of Warcraft: Molten Core game for the Atari. As it turns out, the joke is on Blizzard, because this game is now a reality.
The men and women of Gamer's University have completely fleshed out this mere joke into a real game, so bravo to them. As you can expect, the game is based on the Molten Core raid (before the level cap got ridiculous). It also has the option for two-players, so now you and your friends can fight over who gets to be healer and which poor sap gets stuck tanking.
No word yet on whether or not the healer and tank are both druids.

In case you missed my 20 column stint as host of Coming Attractions, I'll take this time to remind you that I am this site's resident Prince of Persia fanatic. Sands of Time is, in fact, the greatest game of all time. It's true! Darn true! So it is only natural that I was ecstatic when Ubisoft announced another take on the series, coming this holiday season.
Months have gone by and we are now only a matter of weeks from Prince of Persia's release. Luckily for PC gamers, Ubisoft loves us (ehh…) and is releasing the game of the year on the PC as usual, albeit a week later. If you don't have a console (who would want one of those filthy things, anyways?), I must recommend buying a USB controller for the game, as it is too fast paced for the modern mouse and keyboard.
However, if for some reason you don't buy this game, I will find you and punch you in the face. Buy this game, I COMMAND YOU!
Coming Attractions by Drew Robbins…hey, that's me! This was my official last Coming Attractions, and I even gave out some fashionably early awards. I'll be giving the PC awards here when the year comes to a close, so don't feel left out!
I understand you're a PC writer (congrats on the new gig) and all but do you have any idea if the Fallout 3 DLC will be coming to PS3, by chance?

I do believe that yes, you can get the DLC on PS3 and Xbox 360. However, the ability to mod the game is (as you would expect) PC exclusive.

Scratch that, apparently Fallout 3 DLC is exclusive to PC and 360. I'm sorry :(

...Damn it all to hell. I continue to await the day my loyalty to Sony pays off...Well, thanks anyway =) Good article, even if I don't use my PC for gaming, I still like reading the latest news.
