The Gamer Girlfriend 03.17.09: LittleBigPlanet
Posted by Greg Bruno on 03.17.2009
Check out what The Gamer Girlfriend thinks of one of the PS3's hottest titles and how you could get your significant other to create with you!
Welcome back to The Gamer Girlfriend. This month, Andi and I have focused our attention to the Playstation 3. Sony's newest mascot is in our targets as we take aim at LittleBigPlanet. While creativity is the main focus of LBP, it does have a multiplayer mode. So sit back, grab a refreshing beverage, and continue on to see what Andi thought of LittleBigPlanet for the PS3. You'll have to excuse the lack of pictures this month, our camera took a bit of a dump.
Just by looking at the cover of this game, what do you think it is about?
Andi: Cuteness?
Graphics
The graphics for LBP are incredible. The texture work and levels look absolutely astonishing. Smoke effects, in particular, look especially good in LBP. The PS3 is a graphical powerhouse and LBP proves it.
What do you think of the graphics in this game?
Andi: I think the graphics are really good. The varieties of textures, especially for some of the different skins for the sack boy, are really cool. I also think the design of the game is really different and interesting.
Sound and Music
Sound effects, music, and voice work in LBP are top notch. Whether it be the fun, light hearted music playing in the background or the comical voice of the narrator, LBP has a great aural atmosphere. Of course, you're given the option to choose your music for your created level, but each other them deliver the proper mood for your created levels.
What do you think of the voice work and sound in this game?
Andi: Not much voice work in this game other than the narrator guy. He's entertaining enough…
Do you think the typical non-gamer girlfriend would enjoy this game?
Andi: While I personally was not a huge fan of this game, I do think that most non-gamer girlfriends would enjoy playing. I think it has a high cuteness level to reel in most girls. Honestly, I can see the majority of girls getting so caught up in dressing up their sack boy that they won't want to play the game! I must say my monkey in the tux with a top hat was hiiiiiighly amusing Game play is simple and the opportunity for team work makes for a great couples game. I was a little disappointed at how complex and time consuming the level making was. Greg and I were kind of psyched at the idea of making a level for online but we got bored with the tutorials real quick. However, if you have the patience and dedication, I think creating a level together would make for an enjoyable experience.
What would be a good way for a boyfriend to get his girlfriend into this game, if at all?
Andi: Show her a picture of sackboy, after she's done "awwwing" and giggling, tell her you get to dress him up….DONE
Final Girlfriend Approval Rating:
Andi: If you're looking for a cute, quirky, mindless play to entertain your girlfriend, this is it. It's fun because you can work together on the levels which I think girls like. You can also make it fun by teasing each other a little like Greg chose to do with me. Punching me around in the waiting area, holding on to me during levels so I couldn't do anything… HE was having fun anyways. Don't worry though, I got him back by plastering him with cat stickers! Ha ha
Well there you have it guys and gals. If you are into getting creative, definitely check out LBP with your significant other. You may wind up making a really exciting level! While the tutorials are tedious, they are helpful. Check back next month for another edition of The Gamer Girlfriend and as always, leave suggestions below for games you'd like to see featured next time!
This article concept is still such an excellent idea. I enjoy it thoroughly each time. But one thing that makes me feel like I am a terrible gamer is now that Andi has played one of the biggest titles for PS3 before I have! That's it I'm goin to buy it.

My wife love LPB. The only problem I have is that she doesn't want to play with me co-op, she wants to do everything herself, until she gets to a point where she can't figure something out. Then its my turn, until I beat that part... then it's her turn again. But that is the only game that gets her playing.

Hmm, my comment was sliced up and decided to only show the first half of the message! Now Todd has beaten me to the punch.
Suggestions for next time; World of WarCraft or The Sims 2 (in light of The Sims 3 coming out soon!)

Did I just read an article without any sexual innuendo by you Greg? I am... shocked. You missed out on a few that could have been used...
As for a game suggestion, I suggest... TEAM FORTRESS 2!
...
...
Shut up, I am not obsessed.

and I told ya it was hard to make a level, lol I was still curious to see what yours would look like though... all I can tell you is that dicks get banned... so dont make them Greg lol.
And to whore myself out! If anyone wants to try my level, my name is BeigeDemon and my level is called "NEXT EARTH: Sears Tower of Babel"... took me a while to make.... so heart me please?
