SDCC 2009: Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Preview
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 08.01.2009

I finally got a crack at the playable PS3 demo for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing at the San Diego Comic Con last weekend. This is your basic kart racing game much like Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing. Don't let that fool you however, the game is a ton of fun.

The main learning curve is learning when to break and bank when you should so you don't go off the track which means certain last place. Once you get the hang of that, you are pretty much good to go. The game incorporates a trick system when you make your jumps to try and do flips or turns in the air. Also, much like Mario Kart there are various items and pick-ups you can catch and use against your opponents during the race, things like turbo boosts, bombs, etc. Sonic has a very cool special where he can get a specific pick-up, turn gold, and blast off. The playable demo only let you choose a couple characters like Tails and Sonic, and I used Sonic. Robotnik, Shadow The Hedgehog, and the Monkeys from Monkey Ball also look to be playable characters in the game.

Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is due for release in 2010 for Nintendo Wii and DS, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
