It's the 411 Game Awards! Check out the full column!
Hello and welcome to the first part of the Game of the Year Awards 2006.
Parts 2 and 3 will be out within a day or so with the last part actually having the Game of the Year.
The awards were a majority vote carried out by everyone on the games site and joining us with their opinions of the games are:
Me (obviously) - I review games and do the Retro Review column.
Theo Fraser – The man who loves all things Nintendo and is the writer of Nintendophile.
Vincent Chiucci – A busy man who writes not only Gaming Trends and the Select and Start News Report but also now does the Top 5 column.
Jordan Williams – Reviewer and writer of Working Title.
Sean Garmer – Game reviewer and the man responsible for the monthly roundtables.
Sean McCabe – Review and writer of The Retrospective.
David Redkey – Games reviewer
Greg Bruno – Games Reviewer
Chris Kovatsh - Another newcomer to the site who’s doing reviews.
Cory Moore – Reviewer and writer of the new column The Fun Factor.
And now on with the awards.
Best story
Winner – Dead Rising
Steve McHugh – A serviceable story, even if it does mean you’ll have to finish the game half a dozen times to understand it. Worth it though.
Sean McCabe - Okay, all I can ask is why? I mean, Dead Rising doesn't have a horrible story as such, but this is the same year as Dreamfall, Broken Sword 4 and even Twilight Princess got released. Makes no sense to me.
Sean Garmer - This is the only really questionable call I’ve seen in this whole list. Dead Rising’s story is an afterthought, because what matters is that you kill the zombies. This is just outright puzzling to me.
Jordan Williams - For what it was, the story was a bit thin and weak. But you were expecting a hokey zombie movie styled story from the start, and it did deliver here.
Joshua Richey - No, they didn’t just rip-off the Dawn of the Dead storyline. Dead Rising’s story made a lot of sense in regards to the gameplay. You’re stranded in a mall, a helicopter is coming to pick you up in 72 hours… just survive for 72 hours. Basic; but serviceable.
Theo Fraser - I’ll admit, I thought the story was just “Boy meets zombies. Zombies meet weapons. Zombies die. The end.” But evidently I was wrong. I guess some people just dig simplicity, which I have no problem with. Look what simplicity did for Mario, after all.
Runner Up– Kingdom Hearts 2
Steve McHugh - Maybe one day I’ll get round to actually playing this and I’ll be able to decide if it’s as good as I hear. But I would have put Splinter Cell here.
Sean Garmer - The story in this game is what kept me playing the most. You travel through the incredible Disney worlds and deal with your character having two personalities, while at the same time trying to destroy an evil organization, that’s cool to me. Now of course this is from someone that was tailor made to play this game, as I’m a big fan of both franchises. However, when the gameplay started to wear thin (you can only press the X button so many times.) The intriguing story helped carry this thing. I’m glad at least it’s getting some kind of recognition.
Best graphics
Winner – Gears of War
Steve McHugh – Nothing else even comes close in this category.
Greg Bruno - Nothing comes close to the incredible detail put into this visual masterpiece. Do whatever you can to see this game on a high-def TV.
Sean McCabe - The one award it deserves to win, I suppose.
Sean Garmer - Best graphics of any game that came out, totally deserving of this award.
Jordan Williams - This is what I like to call "No Brainer"
Joshua Richey - Wonderful textures, fantastic lighting, and great character models; Gears of War showed off what the 360 was capable of better than any other game has.
David Redkey - Simply Breathtaking…
Theo Fraser - Pretty much a no-brainer there. The most beautifully crafted computer game in existence. ‘Beautiful’ may be a strange choice of words, seeing as how the purpose of the game is to blow big hulking aliens to millions of bloody, gory pieces, but there is no denying that it looks incredible. The best part? This is still early in the Xbox 360’s life cycle. Imagine what we could be seeing in 4-5 years time.
Runner Up – Dead Rising
Steve McHugh – The shear amount of stuff happening at once in this game is a wonder to behold.
Sean McCabe - And this is a good runner up.
Sean Garmer - A good runner-up, Zombies never looked so nasty enough that I wanted them out of my face.
Jordan Williams - This is "No Brainer" Jr.
Joshua Richey - The graphics in Dead Rising weren’t all that. (Aside from the Mall layout… that was beautiful) I think it had more to do with the amount of Zombies that Capcom was able to fit on screen than anything. Which at times was a bit intimidating.
David Redkey - Totally disagree with this one here. The games graphics weren’t that good…it was mostly about the number of characters on the screen.
Best Sound
Winner – Guitar Hero 2
Steve McHugh – A great collection of songs and even though they’re covers it really doesn’t matter. I can’t wait for the 360 version later in the year if they can get a wireless guitar. Oh and some AC/DC and Velvet Revolver would be nice too.
Greg Bruno - The track listing in this instalment was a blast to rock out to, hands down.
Sean Garmer - This thing probably won because it has a licensed soundtrack that was decent, and a lot of people played this game. I actually think the soundtrack in Elite Beat Agents is way better, but not too many-played EBA. The game does have some nice tracks in there, but not the hit smash the first one was.
Cory Moore - Like the first instalment, Guitar Hero 2 thrives thanks to Activision’s willingness to shill out the cash and provide authentic music from the artists who made the tunes famous. 90 percent of the time, the formula works.
Jordan Williams - Kind of unfair to rate a music game with best sound, but I guess it works.
Joshua Richey - Again, another obvious winner. Red Octane was able to lock down an incredible list of whose-who for this instalment of Guitar Hero.
Vincent Chiucchi - Where else are you going to find a game with such hits as "Free Bird", "You Really Got Me", "Rock This Town", and "Trogdor" all in one awesome package (not including Guitar Hero 1)?
David Redkey - C’mon, do you seriously think anything was better in this department?
Theo Fraser - GH2 gets the nod in this category purely because those covers sound so damn good. Add to that the fact that the game includes genuine Primus and Jane’s Addiction tracks, and you have a kick-ass soundtrack of over 55 modern day classics. That’s more than enough to keep you coming back for a few more licks time and time again.
Runner Up – Gears of War
Steve McHugh – I’d have put FEAR here but GoW still has an excellent and immerse soundtrack if not a memorable one. Great sound effects though.
Sean Garmer - I don’t remember the music in this game, and that’s probably a testament to how fun the gameplay is. Also the music seemed pretty generic, don’t know if it’s worthy of this.
David Redkey - Nothing like the sounds of gunfire and explosions to really make you feel like you’re on a battlefield. Great job.
Theo Fraser - It’s that key word again: Immersion. Aside from the breath-taking visuals, Gears of War sucks you into its expansive universe thanks to the splendid sound effects of war. Guns blazing, chainsaws firing up, blood splattering all over the place, soldiers uttering war cries as they charge at their enemy…all help to create an atmosphere that sets you in the mood to frag some bad guys.
Best game no one else bought
Winner – Elite Beat Agents
Steve McHugh – I’m one of those people yet to buy this game. It’s on my list of things to get though as it’s totally mad and the DS does mad very well.
Sean McCabe - Funny how all three games up for this award are DS games. I haven't played any of them myself, because they haven't even been released in Europe yet.
Sean Garmer - All of you that didn’t buy this game are missing out. I recently picked this up and I’m still playing it after like 15 missions. The music fits perfectly, the rhythm elements are great, and the stylus interaction is spot on. I’m not a big fan of Rhythm stuff, but I really liked this, one of the most original and, difficult games to come out for the DS.
Chris Kovatsh - Check out my review on this game if you haven’t. It’s a brilliant game with a crazy difficulty. If you like hard games this one is for you.
Vincent Chiucchi - You're telling me no one actually bought this game? Unless they decided to import the Japanese version it's based on, this is an outrage!
David Redkey - Not my cup o’ tea but I can see why people would like it.
Theo Fraser - *Sigh* Broken record time! I haven’t bought this because…surprise, surprise, it hasn’t been released over here yet! All reports have said it plays extremely well; the thing is, it just doesn’t have the mainstream appeal something like Guitar Hero or Dance Dance Revolution has. As such, it’s gone largely ignored by the majority, which is a crying shame. Here’s hoping sales pick up soon!
Runner Up – Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
Steve McHugh – This is such a good game it’s criminal that more people haven’t brought it. Hopefully it’ll get an official launch in the UK then maybe more people will realise just how great this is.
Chris Kovatsh - The best thing about this game wasn’t the main story, it was after you beat it and had tank battles with your friends with your crazy weapon set-up. The game itself was really easy and it was fun for the most part. I think people were just pissed off that this wasn’t a pure Dragon Quest game.
David Redkey - Good use of the DQ license…damn good use.
Runner Up 2 – Contact
Steve McHugh – I might not be able to get into this game but I can see why people like it and it did try something different so well done in that department, not enough games do that.
David Redkey - This game destroyed the fourth wall…too bad no one played it!
Most anticipated 2007
Winner – Super Smash Brawl
Steve McHugh – Personally I’m more interested in Mass Effect or Bioshock but Super Smash Brawl is still going to be great and that’s what counts.
Greg Bruno - This should have been Halo 3, but I'll let it slide. Smash Bro.'s is a great franchise and I'm very excited to see how they incorporate Wii controls into the gameplay. I'd rather be finishing the fight, though.
Sean Garmer - I can’t wait for this game to come out, it’s always fun and a blast with friends.
Cory Moore- Smash with online multiplayer? The anticipation is killer. If it succeeds, it could pay dividends for the Big N years after its release. If Nintendo somehow botches the idea, some gamers may never forgive the longest lasting console developer. Ever.
Jordan Williams -...This looks familiar...
Chris Kovatsh - My friends and me still play Super Smash Bros. Melee regularly on the Gamecube. The amount of work they put into a game that came out in 2001 was incredible. I can only hope they put the same effort into this one.
Vincent Chiucchi - Super Smash Bros. has proven itself to be a great franchise, and Brawl will definitely not let anyone down. Plus for the first time ever, a 3rd party character (Solid Snake) is going to enter the fray. I swear if this game turns into a disappointed I will give up video games forever. Or to a lesser extent, chuck my Wii out the window.
Theo Fraser - Melee is the highest selling Gamecube game in the world, so it is natural that Brawl would be heavily anticipated as we creep closer and closer to its release. The GC iteration had an incredibly in-depth single player mode, on top of a multiplayer that people are still playing to this day. The premise of the game is something that will never get old, and with fresh additions such as Solid Snake to the roster, the possibilities for potential ‘dream match-ups’ are almost endless. Melee really was an awesome game; the question is, can it be done again? And if so, how can it be topped?
Runner Up – Halo 3
Steve McHugh – This is going to be great. That’s all that needs to be said.
Jordan Williams -...Really familiar...
David Redkey - Well, I can understand why this is anticipated. Hopefully, it fixes the problems with the second game and brings a fitting close to the trilogy.
Chris Kovatsh - This game is so big that it had a trailer when I went to see Pursuit of Happiness amongst the movie trailers. I don't know if I have ever seen that before.
Theo Fraser - Probably one of the most eagerly anticipated games EVER for Xbox owners, as they need a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy after the nail-biting cliffhanger from Halo 2. I don’t like to jump on the hype bandwagon, but it’s gonna be pretty hard for Bungie to screw this up. It’s a solid franchise, and it’s pretty much a guarantee that this will be everything we expect it to be and more.
Runner Up 2 – Metal Gear Solid 4
Jordan Williams -...Damn it, I can't cheap plug, can I?
Vincent Chiucchi - Mooing tanks with bionic legs. Enough said.
David Redkey - I can’t wait to see what Hideo has in store for us.
News story of the year
Winner – PS3 awful launch
Steve McHugh – Someone got shot. Over a console. Seriously it’s not worth dying over.
Greg Bruno - And what an awful one it was! Numerous delays, system shortages, unfulfilled promises, and a lack lustre launch line-up. 2006 was not a good year to be a Sony fan.
Sean McCabe - Well, somebody did get shot. I suppose that is pretty news worthy.
Sean Garmer - People getting shot at, others got robbed, and one person was killed, that’s horrible.
Cory Moore- Everyone knew PS3 was going to be in limited shipments. Everyone knew people would stand in line for hours to get one on launch day. Everyone expects launch systems to have bugs and glitches. But I doubt anyone expected shootings, systems selling for thousands of dollar on eBay, and crooked stores holding shipments from customers in order to maximize sales on “special” dates.
Jordan Williams - Trying not to bash, but for a company that has made everyone else it's BITCH in video games. They should NOT have let something a crucial as a LAUNCH go this bad. Next time I'll be sure to bring a bodyguard with me.
Chris Kovatsh - They really should have just waited for a March release or just never have had the 20 gig PS3’s. If you can justify paying up the ass for the system go ahead, but you won’t have any really good games to play for it for awhile.
Joshua Richey - If you are ever in the position to launch a console at some point… Sony wrote the book on how to NOT do it. Get that book; read it; learn from it.
Vincent Chiucchi - I did a recap of all the riots that went on because of the PS3 launch. I've got nothing more to say.
David Redkey - This was just gawd awful. The Sony execs should be beaten publicly for this (well, I meant literally. You can see the public beating they are getting because it’s just after Christmas and PS3 are just sitting on store shelves).
Runner Up – Wii launch
Steve McHugh – No one got shot. In fact no one even got yelled at. And in stark contrast to the PS3 launch the Wii sold bucket loads and everything went mostly smoothly. Well-done Nintendo.
Cory Moore- Few people expected Nintendo’s newest console to make the splash that it did, but it certainly made quite the impression upon consumers. After all, Nintendo guaranteed a surplus of consoles, and followed through. The demand was just too high!
Jordan Williams - It was everything that the PS3 launch wasn't. I'm sure someone will post that comic to compare them.
Chris Kovatsh - This was essentially the toy of the Christmas season. People would wait in front of stores for 16 hours almost a month after the system came out. Also nobody got shot waiting for the system to come out.
Vincent Chiucchi - I did a recap of all the riots that went on because of the PS3 launch. I've got nothing more to say.
David Redkey - It was surprising how current generation technology can be so radically different with a new controller. It also helps that a new Zelda was released at the same time...
Sean Garmer - Nintendo brought out a system that had a lot going against it because it didn’t have great graphics and what many called a “gimmick” of a controller. How Nintendo proved everyone wrong was the best part. The excitement behind the Wii has been tremendous, every system has sold out in stores, and they didn’t have a catastrophic launch either.
Most unique game
Winner – Wii Sport
Steve McHugh – Without the Wiimote this would be a normal sports game, with the Wiimote this becomes a thing of genius.
Greg Bruno - This title could have gone to any Wii title, but Wii Sports definitely makes use of the Wii Remote the best so far. I'm very interested to see how Wario Ware turns out. I just hope there aren't any "Deep-Throat the Wiimote" mini-games. That's just gonna get weird.
Cory Moore- When Nintendo says the Wii-mote is innovate, they don’t lie. Casual and hardcore gamers alike flock to the game that makes best use of the new controller scheme.
Chris Kovatsh - I don’t think there’s a way you can disagree with this. Wii Sports is still a blast for anyone who owns a Wii and they’ve probably put countless hours into it. For the first time you can actually bowl or actually swing a tennis racket. Even for what is essentially a tech demo they did a damn good job with it.
Runner Up – Electroplankton
Steve McHugh – Not so much a game as a weird oddly compelling experience. Certainly novel though if utterly perplexing in it’s ability to actually be a game.
David Redkey - This more than deserves the top honour. This “game” is so unique…can one even call it a game?
Chris Kovatsh - Lots of people didn't think this game would even make it to North America, but I'm quite happy it did. It's always a blast to just pick this game up and make a random tune or two. I know my DJ friends love this game to death and always want to play it when I bring my DS over.
Sean Garmer - Wii Sports is unique and makes anyone want to play the Wii. Electroplankton is so weird that I don’t know if you can call it a game, it’s an outright experience that you can’t explain. Seriously, this game is on it’s own in gameplay, I’ve never seen anything like it.
Criminally under-hyped game
Winner – Contact
Steve McHugh – Not only under hyped but literally no hype at all. I’ve seen next to nothing about this game outside of gaming websites. I mean this game tried something different and no hype. Come on Nintendo hype up more unique games its what the people want.
Chris Kovatsh - I 100% agree with this. This game despite it’s flaws was still an incredibly original game. Definitely one of the most unique RPG’s in quite some time. The fact that you can kill almost anyone was entertaining and the whole storyline has never been done before.
Vincent Chiucchi - So I heard some good things about this game and so recently got it for Christmas. It's got a very unique feel to it, and probably could've been sold so much better if it had been more hyped.
David Redkey - An awesome RPG that was released on an RPG starved system…and still was overlooked. All of you…FOR SHAME!!!
Runner Up – Bully
Steve McHugh – Not so much under-hyped as given the wrong sort of hype. Some shops will won’t sell this game despite every single fear levelled at it being groundless. Bizarrely those shops that won’t sell it over here are doing so because they say the game doesn’t fit in with the shops ‘family image’ but they’re still selling Mortal Kombat. Not quite sure how much crack they’re smoking with that decision.
Sean Garmer - Bully may not have gotten the right kind of hype, but if the government is talking about it, how is that under hype? It also ended up being a pretty good game may I add. Also the most fun I’ve had with a Rockstar game (aside from Midnight Club.)
Cory Moore- Okay, GTA may have deserved the criticisms it received, justified or not. But Bully? This game just looks like a parody from the get go!
Jordan Williams -...What? This game was hyped through the moon. Every time you opened up a gaming website you saw Wacky Jacky trying to get this game ejected into space.
Joshua Richey - This game came out for the PS2 right around the time that the Wii and PS3 launched. Which is why I think it flew beneath the radar a bit. That and the bad press that it received. Nevertheless, it was a good game. Definitely worth checking out.
Vincent Chiucchi - Under hyped? With all the nonsense from protestors and lawyers about this game I thought it was getting over hyped. But I guess from a gaming standpoint, yeah, this wasn't as hyped as you'd think it would be, considering it's from the guys who make Grand Theft Auto.
David Redkey - It’s sad that this game was so easily lost in the shuffle of new releases. All the coverage came from people who didn’t even play the game nor knew what it was about…
Theo Fraser - This is basically a case of getting lost in the shuffle. With the launch of the PS3 and the Wii dominating forums and news sites for the latter half of 2006, games such as Bully went largely unnoticed.
Most over-hyped game
Winner – Final Fantasy 12
Steve McHugh – Well this isn’t out in the UK for another month so the hype won’t start here till then but Final Fantasy games are always hyped up. I mean they’re one of Sony’s main series of games and they sell millions of copies so that makes sense. Sounds like this is the first one since 9 to totally deserve the hype too.
Sean McCabe - Hmm, Well, I suppose I can see why all three of these games were rather over hyped. Of course, Gears of War should be the winner. There was no way FFXII was hyped more than Gears of War, and Gears of War is a worse game than FFXII.
Chris Kovatsh - All of the Final Fantasy games are over-hyped. At least this one wasn’t the same as all of the others and they tried a new battle system. They should just try to make a new original series and just stop Final Fantasy and end on a high note, but Final Fantasy 13 will probably be out some time in the near future.
Joshua Richey - This category should just be renamed to the Final Fantasy award, because they’re all over-hyped. Yeah, I said it. Let the hate mail proceed.
David Redkey - Every FF game is over-hyped. Still a damn fine game.
Sean Garmer - How Gears of War didn’t win this is crazy, yeah it lived up to it, but so did Zelda and FF XII. Like I said before, Final Fantasy is always over-hyped because it has a lot of fans, myself included, that get excited when anything FF is ever announced. However, XII has gotten nowhere near the hype that Gears has. Gears had it’s own theme song and had ads that ran before movie previews. This was supposed to be as great as Halo (to some people it's better) and they wanted to use this to put a dent in PS3 sales. FFXII came out for an older generation system, sure it pushed the PS2’s graphics to the max, but it wasn’t supposed to be the 2nd coming of anything. Guess What? People ended up liking both games, which one is better? That’s left to personal opinion. It’s not Square’s fault that they make great games.
Theo Fraser - These picks are a little strange in my opinion, as they are at least deserving of their hype. No matter what, a new Final Fantasy will ALWAYS receive tremendous amounts of hype, because…it’s Final Fantasy. Yes, it’s not to everyone’s tastes, but the games ARE consistently of a high standard. Some are better than others, but they are always considered as some of the best of the genre. Hey, someone must be buying them if we’ve seen 12 different incarnations! This one probably runs away with the award because it was often noted as being “the best Final Fantasy yet!” which is so subjective it’s unbelievable. The thing is, those people calling it “the best yet” are the ones who were bitter over the releases of FFVIII, IX, X, X-2 and XI, which were seen as a disappointment in comparison to the heights of Final Fantasy VII (yeah, yeah, enormously debatable). So when Final Fantasy 12 came along and showed all the promise of delivering the Final Fantasy experience we all craved, the hype machine began to turn. It’s a great addition to the series, there’s no doubt about that. But perhaps it’s not quite the FF7-killer some were looking for.
Runner Up – Gears of War
Steve McHugh – Over-hyped? Yep. Worth every single second of that hype? Yep.
David Redkey - This game was hyped up sooo much…yet failed to deliver a truly unique experience. An awesome, awesome game…but I wanted more.
Theo Fraser - The game looked so awesome in previews, and the press built it up to be something rather special. In essence, we started the hype machine, and as a result, Gears of War became one of the most hotly anticipated games of the last decade. But anytime a game receives the amount of attention Gears of War has, there will always be someone to stand up and say “Hey, it’s not that great, ya know!” Many people have picked apart Gears of War, noting all the bugs in multiplayer mode and the relative shortness of the single player campaign. I guess that’s acceptable; Gears of War has been heralded by some to be the perfect game, and there is absolutely no way it can live up to that kind of hype.
Runner Up 2 - Legend of Zelda: TP
Steve McHugh – Apart from Wii sports what else was Nintendo meant to throw money at? Still it seems to have lived up to the hype.
David Redkey - Couldn’t agree more. After playing Okami earlier this year…this game was not nearly as good as I thought it could be.
Dumbest move of the year
Winner – PS3 Strategy
Steve McHugh – Sony couldn’t seem to do anything right. Every time they opened their mouths they said something stupid. The PS3 launch was a nightmare from beginning to end, yes they sold out of consoles but the number of games sold with them was abysmal. 2006 was like they were actively trying to make things harder for themselves. 2007 can only get better for them.
Sean McCabe - Yep, no arguments here.
Sean Garmer - Yep, definitely the winner here.
Jordan Williams - They hoped that people would just get it because it was a PS3, I think Sony learned a good lesson that it just can't shit on it's gamers and expect them to like it anymore.
Chris Kovatsh - I think it’s hilarious that the PS2 is one of the most successful systems of all time and they come out the gate crawling with the PS3. The work was practically all done for them and they still found a way to blow it.
Vincent Chiucchi - Forget the whole $600 price and lack of any really great game at launch. What made the PS3 strategy so stupid was that because of the Blu-Ray diode shortage, there was a lot less units ready to go which led to riots, shootings, and scams. If there were plenty of more machines for people to buy (especially for the UK folks), Sony wouldn't be in the rut they put themselves in.
David Redkey - The 500 and 600 dollar price point could turn off some…the fact that Sony didn’t support 3rd Party Developers nor actively gobbling up exclusives seriously hurt this launch. Not to mention, no one could find a damn thing for the first month and a half.
Theo Fraser - Even though I didn’t really plan to buy a PS3 at launch, Sony’s attitude down right offended me. “Hmm, let’s take those UK gamers who have heavily supported us for the better part of the Playstation’s life, and slap each and every one of them in the face.” That’s what happened when Sony decided to postpone the PS3 launch date well into 2007. Of course, that was just the tip of the iceberg, as Sony made a ton of judgment errors leading up to the PS3 launch. I did NOT like their attitude of “Hey, we’re Sony, of course you’ll buy it!” but it seems their complacency has bit them in the ass. The PS3 launch itself? If you want to talk about Dumbest Move of the Year, look no further than Sony turning up at one of the key launch stores in a van containing EMPTY boxes. That was almost criminally stupid.
Runner Up – HD only text in Dead Rising
Steve McHugh – A really stupid idea considering only a small number of people have HDTV’s. Hopefully Capcom and other developers have learned the lesson.
Sean McCabe - Yeah, I hated this. Developers need to remember less than a third of the people buying their games even have an HD set.
Jordan Williams - Man, that was annoying. I really hope this doesn’t become a trend. HD TVs aren't that big yet, people.
Joshua Richey - I completely underestimated how bad of an idea this was until I actually played it. I played it on a standard TV, and it got to the point where I wouldn’t even attempt to read the incoming messages. They were that microscopic.
Vincent Chiucchi - I find it amazing how the game that wins the "Best Story" award is also credited for having text so small only HDTV's can read it. That and it kills your Xbox 360.
David Redkey- What are you thinking Capcom? You don’t make a game to sell TVs…no one is going to hunker down a thousand (at least) to play one game. And the fact that there was no patch makes this even more unforgivable.
Worst game
Winner – Superman
Steve McHugh – It’s not as bad as Superman 64. But that’s like saying the Black Death isn’t as bad as Ebola. They both suck, one just sucks harder.
Greg Bruno - I refuse to play any Superman game since the N64 version. Oh God! The fog! it literally still haunts my dreams. My therapist says it'll take about 14-17 years to get over such a terrible gaming experience of that magnitude.
Sean McCabe - Not played it. It can't fail as bad as Superman 64 though, surely?
Cory Moore- Is there some curse on Superman platformers? First 64, now this. Developers should just give up on the franchise. It’d be for the best.
Jordan Williams - I haven't played, it, but we all know Superman does NOT mean quality.
Chris Kovatsh - This game had a lot of potential on paper but in execution they really could've made the world a lot more interactive. Lets hope that this game gets a sequel and corrects the mistakes.
Joshua Richey - Perhaps Superman falls victim to its previous N64 cousin. Regardless, this years Superman was quite awful too. Not sure if it was the WORST… but it was bad. The voice acting was atrocious though, I will say that.
Vincent Chiucchi - You'd think a guy with hundreds of superpowers would have the power to NOT SUCK in his own freaking video game. Or maybe he's staring in these bad video games on purpose because he's a dick (see www.superdickery.com for details)
David Redkey - Better than Superman 64……..but that isn’t saying much.
Theo Fraser - Fortunately, I haven’t played this. I don’t intend to.
Runner Up – Family Guy
Steve McHugh – Oh Lord the Brian levels are nightmare inducing. Save your money and buy the DVD’s instead. They’re less likely to make you want to commit acts of revenge against the developers.
Sean McCabe - Oh well. These award things are never much more than an excuse to bitch though. That is true for everywhere I go.
Cory Moore- What do you get when you combine an over-hyped sitcom with clunky controls and senseless missions? The Family Guy game. It’s hard to believe, I know.
Joshua Richey - Again, didn’t play it… but it doesn’t surprise me too much.
David Redkey - This is not nearly as bad as some people think. The game isn’t broken in any way…the fans of the show would get a kick out of it. Just don’t be expected to be wowed with awesome gameplay…
