E3: Next Metal Gear to Have Different Dev Style
Posted by Joe Richardson on 06.03.2009

When Metal Gear: Rising was announced it had the descriptor "Lightning Bolt Action" next to it, as opposed to say "Stealth Espionage Gameplay." Well at Konami's press conference Hideo Kojima confirmed that Metal Gear: Rising will be a departure from the gameplay Metal Gear has come to be synonymous with.

"It's of course stealth espionage action, but with Raiden in the lead. If some of you remember, I talked at GDC about how development is different in the US and Europe. We're testing this approach ourselves with this game... (Rising is being created) with up-and-coming youngbloods, because the game is for youngbloods." Kojima said.

Looks like we may see more a more action oriented Metal Gear, along the lines of Raiden's fight with Vamp from Metal Gear Solid 4.

I'm actually a fan of the new approach, I just would of preferred if they dropped the Solid from the name, called it simply Metal Gear Rising or something and create a whole different set of games with the new game style and focused on Raiden. The "Solid" series could still continue with prequel sequels like MGS3 with Big Boss instead of Solid Snake. Solid would of course still be Steal Espinoge Action. I know thats not going to happen but would make more sense and would shut up the vocal few who will bitch about the games new (bound to happen so get over it) direction.

@ Guest#4352:
Did you read the news sir? It is being done by Kojima studios, and Kojima is quoted in the damn news:

As long as stealth doesn't suffer for it, I'm okay with this
