Super Mario Bros. Wii To Have New "Demo Play" Mode
Posted by Ashish on 06.15.2009

In an attempt to not frustrate more casual gamers with overwhelming difficulty, the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wii will have a new feature called "demo play" where players can actually let the game play itself during difficult portions and then jump back in and assume controls again when they feel comfortable.

Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed the feature to USA Today...

"In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, if a player is experiencing an area of difficulty, this will allow them to clear troubled areas and take over when they're ready," said Miyamoto through a translator. "And yes, we're looking into this for future games, too."

Some might remember that Miyamoto filed a patent for this feature back in January. According to the details of the patent, the mode has three options:

- One that lets a video walkthrough play in the corner but not interrupt gameplay.
- One that would stop gameplay for a full-screen walkthrough, and players could jump into the walkthrough and take control.
- And one that would allow players to choose where in the game to start, similar to the scene selection of a DVD.

Yeah man, I forgot that all the millions of people who play Mario Bros. games are nerds, like yourself, who can spend hours upon hours trying to get passed any little section of every game they play.

Mario is made for casual gamers, get back to Final Fantasy or whatever nerdy shit you play.

Is this not a video game?? Somebody sure does need to get their head out of their ass, man.

What happened to the good old days when Nintendo actively tried to challenge their fanbase?

Well, I can understand that the Wii is popular among non-gamers, but this is getting slightly ridiculous, when they pull out a new Mario platformer and say 'Actually, you don't have to play the hard bits if you don't want to'.
Put it this way:
I'm getting the game
I'm turning the feature off.
And I'm going to enjoy it.
Then, naturally, I pray that it doesn't happen in Super Mario Galaxy 2 or the new Zelda. Man, that would suck. You talk to Navi and she says 'Would you like to see a walkthrough?' Lol.
Well, I'm not going to abandon Nintendo any time soon. I have my computer for hardcore games, and the Wii for casual gaming. Keep it up, Miyamoto. Just don't go overboard with the casual-ness.

This might make sense for difficult games, but this is MARIO. How hard can it be? Most of us could beat the original Super Mario Bros before we could walk.

Genius.

Um...for those to or three of you crying about it, the feature is totally optional.

Guess what that means? You don't have to use it. Amazing what our interactive form of entertainment can do these days, eh?

However, if mom, dad, little bro, little sis try to play, and they suck, you aren't going to be held back by it.

^ In other words, you support Nintendo for giving us a game that can BEAT itself without us actually playing it.

WHAT THE FUCK is the point of a GAME that can be completed without you actually PLAYING it?

Guest#6520: If you idea of a enjoyable, non-nerdy game is one that you don't need to PLAY to beat it, then guess what? You don't enjoy video games, not even casual ones. Go do something else. The only point of buying a game is PLAYING it.
