Activision changes its mind again.
Kotaku.com has report that Activision announced today they have changed the highly anticipated sequel to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 back to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It was originally planned that the game would essentially be its own franchise rather than another Call of Duty. However, that plan only lasted a short time as Activision released the following statement:
""Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare," a spokesperson told Kotaku. "We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title's package."

They just said that their game will dominate the holiday season and in order to do that the need the Call of Duty name to be on the package. The explanation about Modern Warfare will be it's own franchise is just like them saying we may have to stop supporting Sony's platforms: It's Complete Bullshit!

Oh, and it'll be more deserving of the Call of Duty name than Treyarch's efforts.

I so called this move in the 6.29.09 Fact or Fiction.
Recognize the awesomeness and move on. Nothing to see here.
I think it will say Call of Duty on the box, but advertising will refer to it as Modern Warfare. They will start branding the Modern Warfare name, so they can drop the COD next time out.
