Miyamoto On Who Super Mario Galaxy 2 Is Being Aimed To
Posted by Ashish on 07.11.2009

Shigeru Miyamoto talked a bit about Super Mario Galaxy 2 to Nintendo Power, discussing who the audience of the game is.

"I do believe that there is a lot here to appeal to the more veteran and more experienced gamers, and I think it's a title that they will obviously enjoy," said Miyamoto. "But I really took it into consideration and tried to do our best to create a game that's accessible to new gamers as well. And, you know, we also built it with consideration that we believe that people who played through the first Mario Galaxy have become better players."

It's friggin Mario, anyone can pick this up and play. Come on do not make another lame ass game that caters to kids and new gamers. The Wii already has a billion games like that.

Anyone else remember when if you played video games period it made you a gamer? This "casual" and "hardcore" label bullshit needs to go.

Kids and new gamers outnumber vets at this point in time.

I find it funny that SM basically said they are making it for the new gamer, and also for the player who's looking for a greater challenge than Mario Galaxy. I mean, Galaxy wasn't the hardest, but it also wasn't the easiest, amirite? So, the whole statement seemed contradictory. BUt whattheeffever, it's a new Mario game, it's gonna be, at the very least, good. Worrying about the audience of the game is almost an insult to the greatness of the series and the ingenuity of its creator.

Agreed! It stinks of elitism and really just creates unnecessary tension in the gamer community.

There is a label because there is a separation. Same with anything. There are casual wrestling fans and hardcore wrestling fans. To get rid of the label would be foolish. You need to know your audience so you can market towards them. And for most new IPs you want more of the casual audience than hardcore so said IP sells and you can grow a brand out of it.

Then again I am sure you are some 15 year old punk who knows everything so you are right:|
