Amazon Cuts PS3 Price By $50

Official price drop soon to come?
Gameindustry.biz is reporting online retailer Amazon has cut $50 of the price tag of 160 gig PS3's bundled with Uncharted: Drakes Fortune plus a voucher to download Pain. The direct link is available here .The move comes ahead of Gamescom which is set to take place in Cologne in two weeks. Several sections of the industry believe an official price drop for the console will be announced by Sony.
Hopefully this isn't another false start on a PS3 price drop that gamers have been dealing with for the past couple years. It could be a case of Amazon trying to clear stock or be the early beginnings of an official price drop. Despite announcing 23 million console sales worldwide, it is still lagging behind the Xbox 360 at 31.46 million units sold and the Wii's 51.6 million sold. A price cut may give the console a boost in sales, especially during the upcoming holiday season, as was seen with the Xbox 360 when Microsoft dropped the console's price.
