Super Street Fighter IV Confirmed
Posted by Dan Hirsch on 09.28.2009

Capcom is set to bring a new and improved Street Fighter to consoles a lot sooner than most expected. Super Street Fighter IV is set to be a standalone game bringing 8 new characters and the slight changes the gameplay.

Classic characters T. Hawk and Dee Jay make their return in addition to the all new female Tai Kwon Do master Juri. All the characters from SSIV will be receiving a tune up. The adjustments come from community feedback gathered by Capcom as well as input from developers in house. In addition, online play will be getting touched up to enhance and streamline gameplay.

The reasoning behind a new game as opposed to DLC is a technical one. Producer Yoshinori Ono stated that the changes are so extensive that they couldn't just be tacked on, so a disc release was necessary. The game's changes mean that it will not be compatible with SFIV.

Before anyone pulls a Left for Dead 2 and jumps off the deep end, Capcom has said they will not be selling SSFIV at the full $60 price tag. The exact price has yet to be confirmed. SSFIV should be on its way in Spring 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.

This company has a track record with that. I don't know why anybody is acting all surprised with it. They ALWAYS release at least 2 iterations in a series, with the first one virtually always being complete crap. The second one is usually flawed but better, and at times the best of the series. Then the third one is usually very different but technically the best and that's what everybody will play long term.

They were working on the sequel way before the actual game was even released.

That's because outside of the States, Balrog is M. Bison, Vega is Balrog, and M. Bison is Vega.

...
Bison is called Vega in Japan and Vega is called Balrog and Balrog is called Bison. When the original game was made Capcom was worried that Mike TYSON would sue over Mike BISON so they swapped all the names around.

It's Bison's original name . They mixed names up over here . M Bison was Balrog but they couldn't use it here because of the similarity to Mike Tyson who he's based on.

In Japan Bison=Vega
Balrog is named M. Bison (Mike Tyson)

No lawsuit wanted is my guess

its a screenshot from possibly the japanese version of the game. They had to switch names around for the US version because Balrog in the japanese version is named M. Bison.... a little too close to another ear-biting boxer

smart idea now ill just wait to get this instead of getting street fighter 4

on the japan versions M. Bison(dictator) is Vega, Vega(Claw) is Balrog, and Balrog(boxer) is M. Bison, short for Mike Bison, bein that hes a tyson ripoff

Umm.. you guys DO know in Japan, Balrog is Called M. Bison, Vega is called Balrog and M. Bison is called Vega Right?

so that's:

US Name Balrog - Japan Name - M. Bison
US Name Vega - Japan Name - Balrog
US Name - M. Bison - Japan Name - Vega

Got it?

On the subject of Bison/Vega...

Google will tell you that the 3 Shadoloo bosses had their names rotated so Capcom wouldn't face a possible lawsuit over naming their boxer M. Bison, after a certain M. Tyson.

Posted By: G-Walla (Guest)  on September 29, 2009 at 01:10 PM

The character of Balrog was originally named M. Bison, with the letter being an initial for "Mike", and was originally a parody of real-life boxer Mike Tyson. Under the suggestion that the character's name and likeness resembled Tyson to the point of infringement, the developers rotated the names of three of the boss characters for the English localization. As they felt the name Vega was better suited for the androgynous bullfighter, they gave him the character's previous name, Balrog, and changed the name of the game's final boss to M. Bison

In Japan, Bison is known as Vega. The NA localization people swapped names around for Balrog, Vega, and MBison since SF II.

Screenshots are from the Japanese Street Fighter, in which:

M. Bison is Vega
Vega is Balrog
Balrog is M(ike). Bison

To answer some of the ignorant posts, the US had name changes so M.Bison US was always Vega in Japan, so he was always Vega. Think about it, which names look like they make more sense: A boxer named Mike Bison, a claw wielding guy named Balrog, and an evil dictator named Vega, or the opposite: a boxer named Balrog, a claw wielding guy named Vega, and an evil dictator named...M. Bison, with everyone pretending M. is a full first name.

Since the trailer is from Japan, obviously the Japanese names would be used.

Also, this game has been in the works for a long time. I know a guy at Capcom, they were working on this months before the SF IV release.

do you not know the japanese lore of street fighter? Just to break it down, Bison is Vega, Vega is Balrog and Balrog is M. Bison (as in trying to spoof of of Mike Tyson) Sagat is still Sagat, and still sucks

Do you idiots not know your SF lore?

Bison is known as Vega in Japan

M. Bison is called Vega in those pics because that's his name in Japan. Balrog goes by M. Bison in Japan, but it was changed for the American release of Street Fighter II because they were afraid of a lawsuit from Mike Tyson (M. Bison = M. Tyson...get it?). So in Japan, M. Bison is named Vega, Balrog is named M. Bison, and Vega is named Balrog. Confusing, I know.

Jesus, 20+ comments of people correcting two posters' questions. Almost got through them all before someone had to be an asshole about them too. I'm a huge Street Fighter fan, but I can admit that not everyone knows about the name swaps, and that doesn't make them stupid. Chill out.

So M.Bison is Vega...you're shitting me?!

LMAO Another person claiming they know someone in the business. You're just showing your ignorance by trying to put others down for not knowing something you probably didn't know yourself until you read some of the comments. Great job
