Rocket Knight Returns to Consoles
Posted by Jon Seddon on 10.06.2009

The Sega Genesis platformer from 1993 will be making a come back for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in a sequel being developed by Climax. The original game featured the Rocket Knight from the title who was called Sparkster and was actually an armor wearing opossum with. He featured in two further episodes of the game, one of which was only released on the SNES.

Storywise it's the usual story of opossum defeats pigs and then join forces to take on the wolves, but whether you end up taking on your former end game boss, Axel Gear or team up isn't clear yet.

The new game follows the currently popular route of fitting the action to a 2.5D template therefore preserving what made the game work originally, but allowing it to fit with modern aesthetic sensibilities. The rocket pack returns and has been made easier to control by zooming out from Sparkster, letting you see more of the surroundings. You also get the to jump and double jump and use your sword to cut down your foes, which look like wolves with rocket launchers. As well as platform levels, Climax are also giving you simple side scrolling shooter interludes to spice up the action.

As far as difficulty, it's being pitched as slightly easier than the originals, although will still feature an arcade mode that will force you to complete the game without saves.

More on this at 1up.
