Assassin's Creed 3 Set in World War 2?
Posted by Jon Seddon on 10.13.2009

In an interview with UK magazine, XBox World 360, producer Sébastien Puel gave some clues as to the setting of the next Assassin's Creed game. Note that a sequel is not in question at this point.

Anyway, when asked whether a female heroine for the next game was an option he said that the team discussed this, but the time period would have to make sense. He then went on to say, "Where would that make sense? We don't want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero as the first inspiration is always the time period, but if you're talking about, say, World War II the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting."

He then went on to say that a trilogy wouldn't be enough for the franchise, speculating on a series with as many episodes as Final Fantasy or even more.

So there you have it, Assassin's Creed 3 set in World War 2 with a female character with a Modern Warfare based sequel!

That actually sounds like a bummer. I think it would be better if they didnt skip too far ahead in the time period. sure, they can skip around with the animus, but i think theres enough WWII games out there anyway

They might set it in Germany and you would be assassinating various Nazis.

That does not sound like a good idea, try the American Revolution, that is a good place to go to for Assassin's Creed 3

I'd like to see one taking place around desmond's time.

Stupid. No female characters in the "Brotherhood" of assassins. And a Modern Warfare type of game? No thanks. I'm not sexist, but it just seems out of place to have a female assassin. And I agree with you guys. There are definately too many WWII games. I'm still iffy about gunpowder in AC2.

oh god, not another WWII set game. When will they learn that we're OVER that.

Nonono, you see guys, there are too many WWII SHOOTERS!! There arent any WWII games like this.

For a second I was going to say that Assassin's Creed being as long a series as FF (even only including the main 13 games) is ridiculous and will get boring after another sequel or 2 but I'd rather wait and see how different 2 is from 1.

The guy being interviewed used WWII and a female as an -example-. This story and the reaction from CVG are completely out of context. Nothing to glean from this interview.

why not have it placed in the stone age?

why not place the female lead in feudal japan??

wait how does this work does that mean desmond is a girl aswell?

Man, with all the brilliant periods in history as yet untouched by video games, the only thing they can think of is probably the single most overexposed time period in recent memory?

Even if they're determined to go with a heroine (not sure how it works in the context of the game, but hey, I'm not a developer), there are tons of other settings where women played an important role. There are a number of established female soldiers pretending to be men in the American Revolution in both American and British armies, as well as in the Russo-Swedish wars and the French Revolution. Female pirates were common enough in the Golden Age of Piracy. Gertrudis Bocanegra raised an army of women in the Mexican War of Independence.

Honestly, ANYTHING other than WW2 would be great.

I love assassins creed, but how bout something original, like ancient egypt, feudal japan, anything.

I'm also tired of ww2 crap I actually got sick of it last generation!

I think WW1 would be a better time, in the least that the story writes itself. WW1 was ignited when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, was...you guessed it, assisinated.
Not saying the protagonists did it, maybe there could be another member of the Creed who kllls Ferdinand after you fail to stop him.

An ancient Egyptian themed game would be awesome.

actually i think it would be a better story for ac3 to be set in the Napoleonic Wars and maybe have a english or french assassin

Posted By: Guest#4248 (Guest)  on October 18, 2009 at 10:37 AM

I agree with the French Revolution, but I was thinking more of a French assassin than a British one. I also agree with wat you say about there being to much WW2 games, but those are shooting games. While ac3 you can walk around like in ac1 and not have to just look at a gun like Call of Duty.

I was thinking more of the american civil war type of background. Because you could probably be on either the Union or Confederate. And you could've either tried to stop the guy who assassinatedLincoln in 1865 or you could have assassinated Lincoln yourself.
