Dedicated Servers a No-No for the PC Version of Modern Warfare 2

Infinity Ward make a controversial decision.
Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has told fans of the Call of Duty series that there will be no dedicated PC servers for Modern Warfare 2, the company instead opting to go for a proprietary matchmaking service called IWNet.
The system is essentially designed to match players up against other players of their own rank, but some gamers have taken umbridge to the idea, with a petition circling that has already gathered 50,000 signatures to have dedicated servers put back in place.
Bowling himself has stated that "You're completely reliant on IWNet, and there's no dedicated server or server list, so you rely on IWNet for your matchmaking on your games, but then you also have the private match, much like the other platforms, where you can go in and customise and, you know, turn off air support, turn off this, turn off that, customise the game rules all via private match, and invite people to the server that way", with the whole "completly reliant" part being the sticking point.
So, umm, since no dedicated servers... means no custom mods, no custom maps, which means they'll be able to charge PC users for the map packs like they do on consoles. Brilliant marketing move, horrible pr move.
