Rare Cancels Sequel Plans For Many Of Its Games
Posted by Scott J. Simpson on 11.03.2009

1UP posted an interesting piece of news on their website Monday that might send some of you reading this into a temper tantrum.

According to 1UP, via a report by the CVG, Rare has canceled plans for a sequel to the Xbox 360 title Kameo: Elements of Power. But wait! The news gets worse. Not only did Rare sack plans for a Kameo sequel, but the developer also halted sequel plans for other Rare franchises. No specific games were mentioned, but 1UP speculates that the developer most likely had plans to produce a sequel for Perfect Dark, and quite possible even Banjo-Kazooie.

So, what exactly has gotten into Rare? Well, apparently the developer canceled sequel plans for some of its games in order to "free up resources for the Project Natal launch."

Although 1UP writes that sequels for games such a Kameo, and possible Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie, "will never see the light of day," I prefer to remain optimistic. Rare is most likely just suspending sequel plans for the time being until the launch of Project Natal. I can see the developer flushing sequels to less popular games down the toilet, but I can't see the developer never producing sequels to some of its more popular franchises. But hey, you never know.

Why can't Rare be affiliated with PS3 or even the Wii. Perfect Dark and Bad Fur Day are two of my favourite games ever made and they will never see the light of day again with Xbox.

Who owns the rights to Killer instinct, is it RARE or Nintendo?

You're a brave man, Scott J Simpson. And hopefully, a correct one.

What has Rare done lately? Did Microsoft buy them out so they wouldn't make anymore games or something? I mean seriously look at the N64 and the awesome titles with Rare's logo (Banjo Kazooie/Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing, Blast Corps, Jet Force Gemini, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, DK:64, 007:GOLDEN EYE!) and what have they done for Microsoft? Rehashes, Rip-offs and Viva Pinata.

I hate to be anti-360 but this just shows how much they miss out on.
