Super Mario Bros. Wii To Outsell Modern Warfare 2?

Look out Call of Duty, you've got some competition ahead.
Tom Bramwell on Games Industry.biz reports that Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, predicts that the New Super Mario Bros. Nintendo Wii will outsell the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions of Modern Warfare 2. Fils-Aime responded to GTTV when asked if the latest in the Mario franchise could outdo the top-selling Infinity War FPS franchise, "Well, Modern Warfare 2's on two platforms, right? . . . On one particular platform? I do believe so."
Fils-Aime went on to state, "Now, you've got to give me the entire holiday selling season, right, so let's take it all the way through the January NPD data. Yes. I'll take that... I'll put that stake in the ground."
Fils-Aime gives his due to Modern Warfare, knowing it will be a tough challenge to beat, "Sure it's going to be close. Modern Warfare's a great title. As a gamer, I look forward to it."
Sorry Reggie, go back to planning your next horrid E3 conference.

preorders don't mean shit when it comes to mario. the people who buy mario games aren't the same neckbeard mouthbreaters who waddle into gamestop like sheep to put a preorder on the latest first person kill simulator.
the people who play mario games are real gamers

Lets see. COD4 across both SKUs sold 12.5 million give or take. Here are some games from this generation which outsold that...
New Super Mario Brothers (DS)
Mario Kart Wii
Nintendogs
Brain Age 2
Wii Fit
Mario Kart DS
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
Now if we limit it to one version of the game (lets say the 360 version since its the higher selling of the two) which sold 7.8 million then the following games have sold better.
Mario Galaxy
Smash Brothers Brawl
Animal Crossing Wild World
So Nintendo's first party software sell well. There are 4 recent Mario games (5 with Brawl) that have outperformed the best selling call of duty game so I don't think its unreasonable to expect New Super Mario Brothers Wii to do better than COD5

I do enjoy and respect the mario franchise. Slap Mario's name on a title and it's guaranteed to sell like hotcakes, even if the game sucks (which most of them don't.)
BUT, New Super Mario Bros Wii, in my opinion, does not stand a chance of competing with the sales of Modern Warfare 2.
MW2 has a HUGE fanbase, and has possibly more hype then even the Halo franchise.
Granted most of the people that follow the game are a bunch of Run N' Gun idiots, but with analysts predicting sales exceeding 500 million, Mario has no chance.

You say that like Modern Warfare 2 isn't catered to the casual gamer.
New Super Mario Brothers Wii will totally outsell MW 2 on one of the two consoles. 1st party Nintendo games sell.
...They are also better than shooters.
