Infinity Ward's shooter moves over six million units.
The November NPD numbers are out, and software enjoyed a huge month with the top spot going to Modern Warfare 2 with a whooping 4.2 million units sold on the Xbox 360. Hardware sales were also strong, though down over last year's numbers.
Here's the details:
Hardware sales
Console
Nintendo Wii - 1,260,000
Xbox 360 - 819,500
PlayStation 3 - 710,400
PlayStation 2 - 203,100
Handheld
Nintendo DS/DSi - 1,700,000
PSP/PSP GO - 293,900
Software sales
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360) - 4.2 million
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) - 1.8 million
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii) - 1.39 million
Assassin's Creed II (Xbox 360) - 794,700
Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360) - 744,000
Wii Sports Resort (Wii) - 720,200
Wii Fit Plus (Wii) - 679,000
Assassin's Creed II (PS3) 448,400
Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360) - 362,100
Mario Kart (Wii) 315,000
Putting those Modern Warfare 2 numbers into perspective, it has already sold more than the original Modern Warfare sold over the six months following release.
Was it worth it, Sony? To throw away an entire gaming division built on such prestige as the PlayStation brand for a flash in the pan, temporary media such as bluray? Heads are rolling

So Modern Warfare on the 360 outsold the PS3 by over two times?!? That is crazy. And the price drop that sony thought would push them on top was just a temporary surge.

considering more people own a 360 than a PS3, is it really that surprising that it outsold the PS3 version?

Actually, you can say that this is a 360 surge. It had more to do with the MW2 bundle. There is no information on how many of those MW2's sold for the 360 were part of the bundle.
When God of War 3 is released this March, I wonder if there will be a massive upswing for the PS3.

Those MW2 numbers are impressive, especially since the PC numbers havn't released. As for the 360/PS3 it doesn't really surprise me when looking at MW2 sales. When the biggest entertainment release of the last several years sells that much on one system of couse it's going to outperform the other systems. Also the 360 got the MW2 bundle and that no doubt helped. As for previous comments I wouldn't count the PS3 out yet, it still did very well. What I wanna see is the FFXIII sales in Japan this month, thats gonna clean house.

None, since NPD numbers don't include bundles.

What's more impressive is mario kart wii in the top ten despite being released a year ago.
