EA Reconfirms Commitment To Tiger Woods
Posted by David Martell on 01.05.2010

According to gameindustry.biz, EA is continuing to show their commitment to the Tiger Woods branded golfing games. With many high profile sponsors already dropping Tiger's endorsement deals, this is a shining spotlight for the corrupt golfer. Tiger Woods has announced that he is taking a break from his golfing career to take care of his situation but EA is still continuing their very successful Tiger Woods golfing games with a new release for the series coming out later this year. Although it is a controversial move by EA to keep the Tiger Woods series of video games, EA stresses that they are endorsing his athleticism and not his controversy.

This is what EA Sports President Peter Moore had to say about the situation:

"Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf. We didn't form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm's length endorser. Far from it. We chose to partner with Tiger in 1997 because we saw him as the world's best, most talented and exciting golfer. We struck that partnership with the assumption that he would remain near or at the top of his sport for years to come.By his own admission, he's made some mistakes off the course. But regardless of what's happening in his personal life, and regardless of his decision to take a personal leave from the sport, Tiger Woods is still one of the greatest athletes in history. At EA Sports, we make authentic sports simulations. When we say 'It's in the Game', it is not just a tag line but a statement about the quality and authenticity of the game experience. Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online is truly representative of that rallying cry, and a game that all of us at EA Sports are proud to be delivering this month to sports fans around the globe.I fully understand people's issues with that and you know, the challenge you have with athletes is that they're human beings and you look at what you do, and you make some hard choices."

They promised me all of my transgressions would be unlockable fantasy characters!

Because they know using any other golfer, just wouldn't work. Who's going to buy Phil Mickelson 2011?

A missed opportunity. I think people in general are sick of games that use only one player at their forefront. Tiger Woods golf, Madden NFL (not even a bloody player), Colin McRae Dirt even though McRae is dead...it's stupid. I understand why they do it, and in the case of Dirt there are alternatives on the same level, but when it's THE focal point of the genre and THE most heavily licensed and true-to-life game of something, I find it insulting to name it after one player. What's wrong with just 'PGA Tour 2010' with Woods on the front and Mickelson and Harrington in the background?

A lot of the companies who dropped him are sure going to be kicking themself in a year or so from now when Tiger returns to golf and he signs with said companys competition.

Two ways Tiger '11 will be awesome:

1: As stated earlier, all his women become unlockable characters.

2: He suffers in-game injuries from wife beatings.

I would have loved to see EA dump him for Happy Gilmore '11.

Best tagline ever....

Are they going to have a mini game where you have to outrun your wife who is chasing you with a golf club?

So Michael Vick abuses dogs, makes them fight, and drowns/electrocutes the losing dogs. He was sentenced to jail time and suspended. But people defended him when he was put in Madden.

Now, Tiger Woods cheats on his wife with multiple partners (not a legal crime), is looking at his wife and half his income leaving him, is dropped by numerous sponsors, ridiculed by every media outlet and no one is defending for staying on a game.

I don't care for either, but isn't this a little hypocritical?
