Sonic Only Playable Character in Project Needlemouse

Fans wanting the Sonic series to go back to a simpler time may get it with the upcoming Project Needlemouse.

After a week of trivia around the Sega forums, it has been revealed today that Sonic will be the only playable character in the upcoming game. No Knuckles, no Big the Cat, no Shadow, no one else except Sonic will be able to be used in the game.

Also shown off today was the first piece of concept art for the game in the form of a mechanical crab. One of the enemies in early entries in the series, it seems that this newest release may be just the direction that older fans of the series are wanting.

Good. I wouldn't be against having Tails and Knuckles and someone else like Fang or Amy or someone for multiplayer, Sonic is the only one you really need.

Woah, it's actually starting to sound good. A good Sonic game!? Did I go back in time to the 90s?

I picked up Sonic 2 on XBLA the other day and was suprised to find that it wasn't actually that much fun. A real shock since I had such fond memories of playing it on the Genesis back in the day. And that was when Sonic Team had some actual talent.

Still... at least they've shown they can take criticism and are catering to what everyone's been saying for the last ten years or so. I'm cautiously optimistic, although I swear I've seen that crab before....
