Dedicated Servers Coming to Bad Company 2

After witnessing the backlash against Infinity Ward for not having dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2, DICE has made it a point to say that they will include them. There is a catch: the host will need to rent the dedicated server. The game's producer, Gordan Van Dyke, explained:
"This does not earn DICE a profit, but we will see where the game goes and support it post launch."
So how do you all feel about this? Do you think that this is a fair middle-ground?
Umm, isn't this what happened with Battlefield 2? You could only get your dedicated servers from official sellers. It worked well enough for the BF2, from what I remember. This isn't as controversial as you might think it is.

It worked just fine for Battlefield 2.
