We all knew that "iTablet" thing would be revealed soon and that's exactly what happened this morning in San Francisco as Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the newly dubbed "iPad" to the masses.
The device seems to serve as a middle ground between smartphones (an iPhone more specifically) and a laptop as the nearly 10-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 and will come in 26, 32 and 64GB flavors and run on a 1GHz processor. As expected, it will also be equipped with an accelerometer much like the iPhone/iPod Touch.
During the presentation we saw things like a reader app that will enable users to read things such as Time Magazine and the New York Times including an iBook app that will work in conjuction with Amazon.com. Some gaming applications were also shown off as EA gave a quick overview of Need for Speed: Shift (pictured below) to go along with the announcement that almost all iPhone apps will work with the iPad. Simply, the iPad will allow you to expand the normal screen size to fit the iPad's dimensions. NFS is one of the two games alongside the FPS Nova (also shown below) that have been redesigned to take advantage of the features.
Browsing the internet appeared to be quite fast and a virtual keyboard can be summoned at anytime. A seperate keyboard dock will also be available for those who wish to have a more traditional laptop-style interface.
On the downside, the iPad does not have a camera nor SMS capabilities and cannot handle multitasking.
The iPad will also be available in WiFi models as well as the faster 3G models. Pricing is as follows:
WiFi Models
$499 - 16GB
$599 - 32GB
$699 - 64 GB
3G Models:
$629 - 16GB
$729 - 32GB
$829 - 64 GB
The iPad will, according to Jobs, begin shipping in 60 days!

That ebook facility looks awful. It will be bad enough with the glare-inducing screen.
Despite it just being a big iPhone which I already have, I'll be getting one solely to conform to the peer pressures of hip silhouette people who dance to Vampire Weekend.

So it can't do more than one thing at a time, there's no USB port, no camera, no Mac OS, no widescreen display...
I thought technology was supposed to advance as time goes on.

I wants one.

I really hope Apply bites it on this...the price tag alone is gonna make people scratch their heads when they can get a smaller, more functional iPhone for half the price of a small iPad. The fact they want gamers to pick this up (with a lowly 1 ghz processor at that) is completely laughable.
Bad form, Apple.

C'mon ... no support for flash? People might actually want to SURF the INTERNET on this thing so why not support flash?
It's so stylish too. Looks like every digital picture frame you can buy at Big Lots for 39 dollars.
To plug anything into it, you'll need an adaptor. To use friggin' USB, you'll need an adapter!!!
No multi-tasking? listen to music and surf? Not on one of these!
Other than the touch capability, how is this thing anymore useful than a netbook?

no flash, no multitasking, no camera, NO USB PORT, and with a price tag like that for 64 gb (which is not what it used to be)
im really not excited, and its a shame because i have been looking for a color e book reader for a long time (comic books)
