New NBA Jam Screens Shown
Posted by Adam Larck on 02.03.2010

EA released three new screenshots today for NBA Jam, showing that the game will keep its 2D roots.

The screenshots are … interesting to say the least. They're over-the-top, but still have semi-realistic depictions of the players. I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about these screens.

Check out the screens for yourself and let us know what you think. Personally, I'd like to see a video in the near future showing off the game in action.

I think it boils down to gameplay and if it can retain the same awesomeness that was the first and second nba jams. If it is sucessful in doing so, I don't know why this wouldn't be just as much fun....Think it looks awesome! The facial expressions are great!

That almost looks like photos used for the heads, if so...that could really limit the expressions and animation on the heads.

So looks like we're gonna start getting games Rebooted as well, like all the movies of today..This could be good though. I want a new Contra :)

That's classic right there.

The new Nintendo Power has a huge spread on the game... it looks like they took the original and amped it up with equal parts cheesy goodness and expanded features.

Thank God.

To me, it seems like the heads are a little too big. I like simple and over the top for this game, but I don't think they look that good.
It seems low budget almost like America's funniest videos where they put the host's head on the people in the video.
I think a tiny teak or two would do wonders.

wtf... this has to be an arcade download and not a full fledged 60 dollar title

That's exactly what they did. The NP article shows that each player has a series of "game faces" that cycle, depending on what they're doing (Dunk face, running face, getting knocked down face). The expressions are sort of static, apparently, which feeds the whole throwback design approach.

Seeing these pics makes me wonder if Terrance and Philip are going to be hidden characters.

It'd be cool if you could add your own face in the game as a character!

This is a series that's famous for having "Big Head Mode" in every iteration. That is what this is.

Looks like a bad photoshop.

come on. clearly the heads in the first pic are smaller than the second two. it's obvious the second two are Large Head mode...

As many others have said, this will come down to gameplay. Sure it looks a little cheesy; but for real NBA Jam fans; the only thing that matters how well you can dribble the ball down the court and deliver a BoomSHAKALAKA. Still interested, right now it looks about a $39.99 title, but not a $49.99 one.
