Square Enix Developers Don't Understand Wada's Comment Either

What did he mean by FFXIII being the "last of this type of game?"
A few weeks back we reported on a quote from Yoichi Wada, President of Square Enix, saying that Final Fantasy XIII may be the "last of this type of game." It wasn't clear what he meant, but speculation took off. Turns out that even Square Enix developers, like producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama, didn't understand what Wada meant.
"We don't know exactly what he meant by that," said the duo on the official PlayStation Blog. "We don't really know what he meant by this style of game. If you consider that during Final Fantasy XIII's development, at peak time the team consisted of over 300 people. It was a huge team, plus it took a several long years to get the game finished. So, if Mr Wada meant that we would never make another Final Fantasy title with the similar number of people, taking as long as FF XIII did, we would agree. Obviously in the future we want to be much more efficient. Having worked on XIII, we feel that we have got much better at making good games for high definition consoles. In the future our teams will be smaller and more effectively run. We suspect that is what Mr Wada meant by his statement."
Somehow I don't think that's what he meant. What do you think?
I think he's trying to get rid of FF and hasn't told the developers yet or he was on something and they caught him at a bad time

Dear God, I hope this means the end of MMO-Style battle systems for the FF series.

The Final Fantasy name doesn't really mean much in the states anymore...FF12 didn't set the world on fire and no one plays FF11 online anymore...the change from traditional-style FF has really hurt the franchise. Time to get back to basics (like they did with 9).

Feel free to hate me for saying this, but I'd LOVE if they did an "old school-type" Final Fantasy for PSN/XBLA. Ya know, sorta like Mega Man 9 and 10?
